Seeing The Forest From Inside The Trees:

A Movement & Therapy Masterclass. (Hong Kong 16,17,18 October 2015)

Presenter: Robin Kerr (Lumbo-Pelvic & Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist)

Goals:

1. Understand the origin of fitness, movement and therapy attitudes and philosophies.

2. Examine the evidence base in relation to the effectiveness of current fitness techniques and therapies.

3. Introduce and integrate recent advances in the science of fascia, motor control and movement/therapy theory.

4. Enhance the participant’s ability to assess movement and manage dysfunction in simple, fast and effective ways. Particularly in relation to breathing, pelvic floor/”core” function and gait.

5. Challenge long held dogma in the fitness and therapy fields.

Course Outline:

FRIDAY 16th October 2015 6-9pm

Introduction: Welcome inside the tree! Please relax and have a drink whilst I paint what has evolved to be my work perspective.

• Art Meets Science: The purpose of a clinician’s Masterclass. • The Growth Rings: Acknowledgement, introduction and direction to my

significant mentors/teachers.

Evolution of Medicine, Fitness & Therapy

• Timeline & commentary: primitive man through to the current day. • Where we got it right, got it wrong, totally lost the plot, made progress.

The Impotent Tool Box

• Why a (treatment or fitness) tool is just a tool. • Tool selection: lessons learnt from territoriality, arrogance and failure.

Page 3: ROBIN KERR BREAKDOWN

Clinical Expertise & Evidence Based Practice

• Irreconcilable differences or considerate compromise? • The Emperor’s New Clothes: The painful reality of our failure with low back

pain. • The evidence base to support or discount our favourite theories and

techniques

What is Movement?

• Definition. • Complexity & the inevitability of dogmatic philosophy. • Why complexity simplifies: movement pattern recognition. • Movement Language. The underestimated goldmine in the world of the

motoric imbecile. • Wholeness: The sum of parts IS greater than the whole. • Neurodevelopment Sequence is coming back into vogue = good or not?

What Is “Flow”? (…..hint= it’s a lot more than movement)

• Definition. • Quantum Theory application. • Can we see & feel “Flow”?

Tensegrity v’s The Mechanical Model

• Definition • Principles • Gravity • Breath- the basis of tensegrity?? • Research • Controversies • The importance of rotation and “spin”. How the simple cartwheel tells us

everything! • Application
