1. INTRODUCTION:
TRAINING & CAPACITY BUILDING OF FARMER
Skill up gradation of small, marginal farmer and upcoming entrepreneurs is the need
of the hour in order to enhance the productivity of livestock and poultry. The Government
of India has emphasized on doubling the income of farmer by 2020, which requires capacity
building as well as support to farmer with quality seed.
Change in social, economical, technological and market conditions require support
to continuously upgrade small and marginal farmers' skill so that they can earn a sizable
amount from their livestock enterprises. Extension services precisely take care of this aspect
by providing the farmers with information in a manner so that he or she can easily
understand and use it to improve his or her skill and earn more through better livestock
management in a cost effective manner.
Animal Husbandry extension can play an important role in skill development of
livestock and poultry farmer, changing attitude of the farmers towards new adoption &
advance technology which can lead to increase in production and productivity.
The main problem facing by our state is not the lack of proper technology but its
integration into the Animal Husbandry practices of the farmers in order to convert
production accomplishment. This in turn, depends on, besides making available all other
inputs on the speed of which the improved farm technology is transferred from the source
to the ultimate utilization in such a way that they know it, comprehend it, accept it and act
into
upon it. Assam animal husbandry has now reached a stage where transfer of appropriate
technology for small and marginal farmers and upcoming entrepreneurs has become
extremely important.
Capacity building and continuous education programmes are integral part of any
organization which likes to move forward with time. Animal Husbandry & Veterinary
Department too has many training institutions most of which are erstwhile livestock and
fodder farms. These training institutions were established for human resource development
and capacity building of farmers through skill based practical training followed by link up with the department or a financial institution enabling the trainees to start their own
independent venture with livestock farming which would provide them with a sustained
source of income livelihood.
OBJECTIVE OF TRAING & CAPACITY BUILDING: i) Capacity building of farmers.
i) Awareness generation.
ii) Technology transfer.
iv) Skill up-gradation.

Considering all these above ,the department has prepared a training module for various components of Animal Husbandry as a systemic approach towards disseminating the knowledge on advancement of technology through Audio-visual training. Due to high potentialities in livestock and poultry sector as livelihood, the educated youth are showing remarkable interest in it.
The Department has taken renewed strategies for skill up gradation of farmer and youth through Government Livestock and Poultry farms, where the participants are given hand-holding trainings on scientific rearing of animals and birds.
The module has been developed to meet the requirement of small, marginal as wel as upcoming entrepreneurs. It will deliberate the scope of the sector, its demand, description of different breeds suitable for this region, housing, feeding breeding practices,
bio security measures to be adopted in a farm, farm automation, value edition of produces, marketing avenues, and financial facilities available under different banks, (NABARD etc.).
The material prepared with relevant illustrations and photographs on the basis of
the module will help the trainers to deliver training at a simplest form so that the farmers
can understand easily and apply accordingly.
