By sharing knowledge, exploring differences, collaborating and promoting international dialogue, the Knowledge Exchange seeks to:

• Increase the return on national investment in ICT infrastructure, services and projects in higher education and research

• Add genuine value to the activities of the partners

• Support the European agenda by promoting better access to information resources in higher education and research

• Create the optimal virtual environment for the Higher Education and Research Community who need to choose from a wide array of possible technologies and approaches

Metrics, Usage Statistics

Aims:• measuring impact and usage of repositories content • facilitating the exchange of interoperable usage statistics • discovering statistics as tool to measure the value of open access • harmonize approaches and advise OpenAIRE

Activities and Output:• Workshop exchanges of (best) practices: SURF SURE, JISC PIRUS, OA-Statistik• Workshop exchanges with key-actors: COUNTER, RePEc, NEEO, PLoS• Compare, discuss, negotiate and draft recommendations:

– for national application– as recommendations to/from OpenAIRE


Persistent Identifiers

8 organisations (national libraries, data centers, cultural heritage archive),

in 6 countries (DK, Fin, Ger, Ita, Swe, NL)

• Need for long term identification for storage & retrieval in HE&R• Need for open, non proprietary, trusted HE&R friendly system• Provide guidelines for a harmonized approach between URN, DOI, Handle,

Delivered : • Reports (State-of-the-art, Requirements, Sustainability)• Prototype of Global Resolver Infrastructure Service• Recommendations and Roadmap, discussed in a Persistent Object Identifier seminar• URN-NBN, Handle, DOI: discuss communalities, shared urgency• Connect to Linked Data (The Hague Manifesto)
