OPERATION

• The server sends small rectangles of the framebuffer to the client

• Can use a lot of bandwidth

• Encoding techniques are used to avoid this

SECURITY

• By default, not a secure protocol

• Brute-force cracking possible if encryption key and encoded password are sniffed

• Hence long passwords

• But VNC verifies only first 8 characters (in some versions)

• Hence VNC is tunneled over SSH or VPN

• Hence the various flavors like RealVNC TightVNC & UltraVNC

select Quit viewer
