PERSONNEL AND DUTIES To provide both a safe and efficient range operation and effective

instruction, the following is an example of personnel and duties that may be required.

OIC (Chief Range Officer). The OIC is responsible for the overall operation of the range before, during, and after live firing.

Range Safety Officer. The range safety officer is responsible for the safe operation of the range to include conducting a safety orientation before each scheduled live-fire exercise. He ensures that a brass and ammunition check is made before the unit leaves the range. He ensures that all personnel comply with the safety regulations and procedures prescribed for the conduct of a live-fire exercise. He ensures that all left-handed firers use left-handed firing devices. This officer should not be assigned other duties.

PERSONNEL AND DUTIES

NCOIC. The NCOIC assists the OIC and safety officer, as required;

for example, by supervising enlisted personnel who are supporting the live-fire exercise.

Ammunition Detail (Ammo NCO). This detail is composed of one or more ammunition handlers whose responsibilities are to break down, issue, receive, account for, and safeguard live ammunition. The detail also collects expended ammunition casings and other residue.

Unit Armorer. The unit armorer repairs the pistol to include replacing parts, as required.

Assistant Instructor (Range Officer). One assistant instructor is assigned

for each one to ten firing points. Each assistant ensures that all firers observe safety regulations and procedures, and he assists firers having problems.

Medical Personnel. They provide medical support as required by regulations governing live-fire exercises.

Control Tower Operators (Firing Point Officer). In charge and responsible for the smooth running in the firing range, time the exposures of course of fire/matches, sound the audible signal, and give the fire commands. If possible, two men should be chosen to perform these functions.

Recorder. In charge and responsible for the scoring

procedure throughout the record firing. Count the score and to record them in the score cards.

Butt Party NCO. Ensure that targets papers are properly position in accordance with the condition of the record firing. Ensure that all targets are to be free from shot holes.

2. THE FIRING POINT OFFICER WILL BRIEF THE SHOOTERS ON THE FOLLOWING:

A. Range facilities and the left and right limits of the authorized field of fire.

SAFETY BRIEFING B. Location of the range ambulance or first aid; evacuation point,

phone numbers, vehicles to be used for emergency.

SAFETY BRIEFING C. Location of the Ammo releasing point and restrictions (no smoking).

SAFETY BRIEFING D. Shooters must always follow the instructions from the Range

Officers and the Firing Point Officer.

E. Magazines will be filled with the number of ammos required by the Firing Point Officer.

SAFETY BRIEFING F. When anyone violates safety procedures, “Stop! Stop! Stop!” command

will be given. Any shooter can direct a fellow shooter to stop when he sees any violation of safety angle (traversing with out command from the FPO).

SAFETY BRIEFING G. Action on stoppages/ malfunctions: In the event of a stoppage or malfunction,

stop firing and apply safe if you can then raise your non shooting hand to call a range safety staff.

SAFETY BRIEFING H. After firing, shooters must continue aiming at the target or (45 degrees

down for standing) while waiting for the command “Unload!”

SAFETY BRIEFING I. Range Safety Officers/coaches will inspect the chambers for unfired

ammunitions.

J. Never allowed to fire the students without the use of hearing and eye protection.

SAFETY BRIEFING

K. Left-handed firers will position at right side during live firing.

L. Eating and drinking are not permitted on the firing line unless the Firing Point Officer permits drinking. (Drink water Often to prevent heat injuries.)

M. Once cleared off the firing line, firers report to the ammunition point and turn in all brass and ammunition.

N. No one will leave the range until they have been inspected for live ammunition

and brass.

INSPECTION 3. AFTER THE FIRING THE ACTIVITIES, THE SHOOTERS WILL

BE INSPECTED AS A WHOLE.
