This section describes the conventions used in this documentation set.

I. Command conventions

Convention Description

Boldface Bold text represents commands and keywords that you enter literally as shown.

Italic Italic text represents arguments that you replace with actual values.

[ ] Square brackets enclose syntax choices (keywords or arguments) that are optional.

{ x | y | ... } Braces enclose a set of required syntax choices separated by vertical bars, from which you select one.

[ x | y | ... ] Square brackets enclose a set of optional syntax choices separated by vertical bars, from which you select one or none.

{ x | y | ... } * Asterisk marked braces enclose a set of required syntax choices separated by vertical bars, from which you select at least one.

II. GUI conventions

Convention Description

III. Keyboard Operations

Convention Description

<KEY> Push the KEY of keyboard. For example, <Enter> is push the Enter key.

<KEY1 + KEY2> Push some KEYs of keyboard. For example, <Ctrl+Alt+A> is push the Ctrl key, the Alt key and the A key at the same time.

<KEY1, KEY2> Push in turn some KEYs of keyboard. For example, <Alt,A> is push the Alt key then push the A key.

IV. Mouse Operations

Convention Description

Click Push the button of the mouse one time quickly. Usually, push the left button.

Double Click Push the left button of the mouse two times quickly.

Drag Move the mouse while holding down the left button of the mouse.

1 Product overview

1.1 Overview

QX-S5500 Series Ethernet Switches (hereinafter referred to as the QX-S5500 series) are Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switching products. QX-S5500 series are designed as distribution or access devices for intranets and metropolitan area networks (MANs). Supporting IPv4/IPv6 dual stack and 10 GE uplink interfaces, the QX-S5500 series provide abundant service features and can also be used for connecting server groups in data centers.

QX-S5500 series support the Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) technology. You can connect multiple QX-S5500 switches through 10 GE ports to form a logical entity, thus to establish a new intelligent network with high reliability, expandability and manageability.

QX-S5500 series include 4 models, and have the system specifications as shown in Table 1-1.

A cable length of DC power supply module changes it to 3m from 2m more than 2014 years.

NOTE: The QX-S5526T switch comes with the power module slots empty and the filler modules for the slots as

accessories. You can select AC power module or DC power module for your switch as needed. You can install one or two power modules for the switch. The QX-S5526T provides two power module slots on its rear panel, with only an AC power module installed

in Hot swappable power module 1 upon device delivery while a blank panel on Hot swappable power module 2.

You can install a power module, which can be AC power module or DC power module, in Hot swappable power module 2 to serve as a backup.

Please refer to "Expansion interface module" about a practicable Interface module expansion interface card by an Interface module slot.

1.3 Ports

1.3.1 Console Port

Each QX-S5500 series provides one console port on the front panel. Table 1-2 describes the console port specifications. You can connect console port to a PC and configure, manage, and monitor the device.

Each QX-S5500 series provides 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports on its front panel. Table 1-3 describes the specifications of the 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports.

1.3.4 Combo Port

One SFP port and the corresponding 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet port form a Combo port. For each Combo port, either the SFP port or the corresponding 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet port can be used at a time. For details about the combo port mapping relationship, please refer to Table 1-5.

1.4 LED

1.4.1 System Status LED

The system status LED helps you determine the working status of the switch. Refer to Table 1-6 for the details.

Flashing green (1 Hz) The system is performing Power-On Self Test (POST) or downloading software image.

Steady red POST failed or other system failed. Flashing yellow (1 Hz) POST on some ports failed. Off The switch is powered off.

1.4.2 Hot Swappable Power Module Status LEDs

The hot swappable power module status LEDs help you determine the working status of a hot swappable power module. Only the QX-S5526T supports this type of LEDs. Refer to Table 1-7 for details.

Steady green Hot swappable power module slot 1 is installed with a power module, and the power output is normal.

Steady yellow Hot swappable power module slot 1 is installed with a power module, but an output failure occurs.

Off No power module is installed in hot swappable power module slot 1, or no power is input.

PWR2

Steady green Hot swappable power module slot 2 is installed with a power module, and the power output is normal.

Steady yellow Hot swappable power module slot 2 is installed with a power module, but an output failure occurs.

Off No power module is installed in hot swappable power module slot 2, or no power is input.

1.4.3 RPS Status LED

The RPS status LED helps you determine the working status of the RPS of the switch. Refer to Table 1-8 for details.

QX-S5526T not supports this type of LEDs.

RPS Steady green QX-PS800 is connected right, and is a standby. Steady yellow Electricity is supplied by QX-PS800. Off QX-PS800 is abnormal (powered off) or is not connected.

1.4.4 Port Mode LED

The port mode LED on the QX-S5500 series can display the working status of a port for you to obtain more device information. You can use the port mode switching button to change the status of the port mode LED.

1.4.5 Seven-Segment LED

The seven-segment LED and the system status LED together indicate the operating status of the device. For details, refer to Table 1-10

1.5 Optional Interface Modules

QX-S5500 series provide two interface module slots on the rear panel. You can select the interface modules in Table 1-14 as needed.

QX-S5500 series support IRF, requiring physical connections between devices. The 10 GE ports of the supported interface modules support IRF, allowing you to connect the switches through these 10 GE ports for IRF implementation.

A 2-port 10 GE CX4 interface module provides two 10 Gbps electrical ports and supports CX4 electrical and protocol standards. Only NEC's CX4 cables can be used for connecting the CX4 ports. A CX4 cable is hot swappable and its maximum transmission distance is 3 m, which is suitable for short-distance connections only.

2 Preparing for installation

2.1 Safety recommendations

To avoid any equipment damage or bodily injury caused by improper use, read the following safety recommendations before installation. Note that the recommendations do not cover every possible hazardous condition.

Regarding with installation and maintenance of this product, please make the engineer who acquired a right operating method to do that. Remove dust on and around the Switch regularly. Before cleaning the switch, unplug all power cords from the switch. Do not clean the

switch with wet cloth or liquid. Before moving the Switch, unplug all power cords from the switch. Do not place the switch near water or in a damp environment. Prevent water or

moisture from entering the switch chassis. Do not place the switch on an unstable case or desk. The switch might be severely

damaged in case of a fall. Ensure proper ventilation of the equipment room and keep the air inlet and outlet vents

of the switch free of obstruction. Connect the yellow-green protection grounding cable before power-on. Make sure the operating voltage is in the required range. Please don't open equipment. Breakdowns when opening, will be applying of the

guarantee. When replacing FRUs, including power modules and fan trays, wear an

ESD-preventive wrist strap to avoid damaging the units. Please be sure to do service operation of the equipment which is being used after a

power supply is off.

2.2 Connecting the RJ45 connector

NOTE: When connecting the RJ45 cable, wear a wrist strap to protect against static electricity.

Do not touch the RJ45 Ethernet cable terminal. If you touch the RJ45 Ethernet cable terminal which is connecting to the Switch, the interface circuit may be broken by the static electricity. When you connect the Console cable, you need also a same care.

2.3 Examining the installation site

The QX-S5500 Series switches must be used indoors.

Mount your switch in a rack or on a workbench and make sure: Adequate clearance is reserved at the air inlet and exhaust vents for ventilation. The rack or workbench has a good ventilation system. Identify the hot aisle and cold aisle at the installation site, and make sure ambient air

flows into the switch from the cold aisle and exhausts to the hot aisle. Identify the airflow designs of neighboring devices, and prevent hot air flowing out of

the bottom device from entering the top device. The rack is sturdy enough to support the switch and its accessories. The rack is well earthed. To ensure normal operation and long service life of your switch, install it in an environment that meets the requirements described in the following subsections.

2.4 Temperature/humidity

Maintain appropriate temperature and humidity in the equipment room. Lasting high relative humidity can cause poor insulation, electricity creepage,

mechanical property change of materials, and metal corrosion. Lasting low relative humidity can cause washer contraction and ESD and bring

problems including loose captive screws and circuit failure. High temperature can accelerate the aging of insulation materials and significantly

lower the reliability and lifespan of the switch. For the temperature and humidity requirements of different switch models, see "Overview".

2.5 Cleanness

Dust buildup on the chassis may result in electrostatic adsorption, which causes poor contact of metal components and contact points, especially when indoor relative humidity is low. In the worst case, electrostatic adsorption can cause communication failure.

2.6 EMI

All electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources, from outside or inside of the switch and application system, adversely affect the switch in a conduction pattern of capacitance coupling, inductance coupling, electromagnetic wave radiation, or common impedance (including the grounding system) coupling. To prevent EMI, take the following actions: Please take the effective measures to reduce the intervention the power supply

system exerts on the switch. Keep the switch far away from high-power radio launchers, radars, and equipment

with high frequency or high current. If AC power is used, use a single-phase three-wire power receptacle with protection

earth (PE) to filter interference from the power grid. Keep the switch far away from radio transmitting stations, radar stations, and

high-frequency devices. Use electromagnetic shielding, for example, shielded interface cables, when

necessary. Route interface cables only indoors to prevent signal ports from getting damaged by

overvoltage or overcurrent caused by lightning strikes.

2.7 Laser safety

The QX-S5500 Series switches are Class 1 laser devices.

3 Installing the Switch

3.1 Installation of hardware

3.1.1 Installing the Switch into a 19-Inch Rack Using Mounting Brackets

An installation procedure is explained below.

NOTE: Mounting brackets of this switch standard attachment, the EIA standard, it corresponds to 19-inch standard cabinet based.

Follow these steps to mount a switch into a 19-inch standard cabinet: 1) Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and ensure a good skin contact and grounding. 2) Check the grounding and stability of the cabinet. 3) Take out the screws which are packed together with the front mounting brackets, and

QX-S5500 Series Ethernet Switches has one front mounting position (near the network ports) and one rear mounting position (near the power modules). It's possible to install front mounting brackets for rear mounting position. Please choose front mounting position and the rear mounting position according to the installation requirements.

3.1.2 Mounting the Switch on a Workbench

In many cases, standard 19-inch racks are not available. Therefore, switches are often placed on clean workbenches. To place your switch on a workbench, you simply need to: Make sure that the workbench is clean, flat, and sturdy. Make sure that the environment is well ventilated and allows 10 cm of space around

the chassis for heat dissipation. Do not place heavy objects on your switch. The vertical distance between two switches must be at least 1.5 cm.

3.2 Connecting the Power Cords and the Grounding Cable

3.2.1 Connecting the AC Power Cable

I. AC power socket (recommended)

You are recommended to use a single-phase three-wire power socket with a neutral point or a multifunctional PC power socket. Make sure that the socket is furnished with an over-current protection device such as air switch and that the neutral point is well connected to building ground. Normally, the neutral point of the power source in a building has been buried in the ground during construction and cable routing. Still, you must make sure that the power source of the build is reliably grounded.

II. Connecting the AC Power Cable

1) Connect one end of the grounding cable to the grounding screw on the rear of the chassis and the other end to the ground as near as possible.

2) Connect one end of the power cable to the power socket on the rear panel, and the other end to the AC power supply.

3) Install the power cable retainer for the AC power cable. Insert the two ends of the power cable retainer into the slots at both sides of the AC power socket, and then set the power cable into the notch of the power cable retainer.

NOTE: When connecting AC power cord to equipment, if light resistance is felt after cable insertion, please give

more a push and insert to the inside. To make sure that the power cable won't be omitted, please install an AC cable retainer of an option.

WARNING: Make sure that the ground wire has been properly connected before powering on the

switch. Use the AC power cord which comply the standard of each country. The socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible. For the cables complying with our specifications, see Table 3-1, and Table 3-2.

3.2.2 Connecting the -48V DC Power Cord

CAUTION: Before connecting to DC power cord, disconnect the switch and a power supply.

QX-S5526P-D and PSR150-D1 of the QX-S5526T have a –48 VDC power receptacle, allowing the use of the –48 VDC power supply in the equipment room.

Follow these steps to connect a –48V DC power cord to the switch: 1) Please install an appropriate ring terminal which matches the outside power supply in

the DC power supply side terminal for power cord. 2) Please be careful for the one of the switch connection side connector of power cord.

Please connect a plug to DC power receptacle of the switch. (When the direction of the connector shape is wrong, to avoid connection mistakes it cannot stick in a DC power receptacle.)

3) Use a flat-blade screwdriver to fix the two screws on the DC plug clockwise to secure the plug to the DC receptacle. Connect the other end of the DC power cord to the external -48 VDC equipment-room power supply system. A black code grounds GND (-48V.) blue or a white code is connected to a terminal for-48V.

4) Check whether the system status LED (PWR/SYS) on the front panel of the switch is ON. If yes, the power is properly connected.

3.2.3 Grounding the Grounding Cable

WARNING: Correctly connecting the switch grounding cable is crucial to lightning protection and EMI protection.

The power input end of the switch is connected with a noise filter, whose central ground is directly connected to the chassis, forming the so-called chassis ground (commonly known as PGND). This chassis ground must be securely connected to the earth so that the faradism and leakage electricity can be safely released to the earth, enhancing the EMS capability of the switch.

You can ground the switch by burying the grounding body into the earth. Landing resistance has to satisfy A kind landing (10 ohms) or D kind landing (100 ohms). When switch install to 19-inch standard cabinet based, ground a chassis appropriately.

3.3 Connecting the Console Cable

3.3.1 Console Cable

A console cable is an 8-core shielded cable. One end of the cable is a crimped RJ-45 connector, which is connected to the console port of the switch, and the other end is a DB-9 female connector, which is connected to the serial port on the console terminal, as shown below.

3.3.2 Connection Procedure

When you want to use the terminal to configure the switch, follow these steps to connect a terminal device to the switch using the console cable: 1) Plug the DB-9 female connector of the console cable to the serial port of the console

terminal or PC. 2) Connect the RJ-45 connector of the console cable to the console port of the switch.

CAUTION: Pay attention to the mark on the console port and be sure to plug the connector to the correct port.

NOTE: A serial port of a PC and a terminal do not support hot swapping. When connecting a PC to a powered-on

switch, you are recommended to connect the DB-9 connector of the console cable to the PC before connecting the RJ-45 connector to the switch.

When disconnecting a PC from a powered-on switch, you are recommended to disconnect the DB-9 connector of the console cable from the PC after disconnecting the RJ-45 connector from the switch.

3.4 Checklist after installation

After installation has been completed, please confirm the following thing. The used power supply matches label indication of the switch. The grounding cable is connected. The console cable and the power cord are connected right.

4 Starting and Configuring the Switch

4.1 Setting up the Configuration Environment

Set up the configuration environment as follows:

Connect a terminal (a PC in this example) to the console port on the switch with a console cable.

4.2 Connecting the Console Cable

When you want to use the terminal to configure the switch, follow these steps to connect a terminal device to the switch using the console cable: 1) Plug the DB-9 female connector of the console cable to the serial port of the console

terminal or PC. 2) Connect the RJ-45 connector of the console cable to the console port of the switch.

CAUTION: Pay attention to the mark on the console port and be sure to plug the connector to the correct port.

4.3 Setting Terminal Parameters 1) Start the PC and run the terminal emulation program such as the Terminal of Windows

On Windows 7, Windows Vista, or another operating system, obtain a third-party terminal control program first, and then follow the user guide or online help to log in to the device.

2) Set terminal parameters (take the HyperTerminal of Windows XP as an example) as follows:

Bits per second: 9,600 Data bits: 8 Parity: None Stop bits: 1 Flow control: None Emulation: VT100 The specific procedure is as follows: 3) Select Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications > HyperTerminal to enter

the HyperTerminal window, and then click to establish a new connection. The connection description interface appears, as shown below.

4) Type the name of the new connection in the connection description interface and click

OK. The following interface pops up. Select the serial port to be used from the Connect using drop-down list.

5) Click OK after selecting a serial port and the following interface pops up. On the

interface, set Bits per second to 9600, Data bits to 8, Parity to None, Stop bits to 1, and Flow control to None.

6) Click OK after setting the serial port parameters and the system enters the following

7) Click Properties in the HyperTerminal window to enter the properties window. Click

Settings to enter the following properties setting window, set the emulation to VT100, and then click OK.

4.4 Booting the Switch

4.4.1 Checking before Power-On

Before powering on the QX-S5500 series, verify that: The power cable and grounding cable are properly connected. The power supply voltage is consistent with that required by the switch. The console cable is properly connected; the terminal (which can be a PC) used for

configuration has been started; and the configuration parameters have been set. The QX-S5500 series have the same Boot ROM display style. This document uses the Boot ROM display of QX-S5526P as an example:

NOTE: The system has two startup modes: normal startup and fast startup. The normal startup mode takes a little

longer time than the fast startup mode. By default, the system starts up in fast mode and the waiting time here is two seconds. If you set the startup

mode to normal, the waiting time is five seconds. For the setting of the startup mode, refer to the next section.

5 Network connection of the switch

NOTE: Before connecting a network, it's recommended to set it as the switch basically. ping or the tracert command can be used to make sure of the interoperability of the switch and the network

after a network connection of the switch. When a port status LED of the switch flashed on and off after a network connection of the switch, and the

switch didn't react to the command, there is a possibility that a broadcast packet is being sent/receive for the switch. Cut a network connection of the switch in this case and readjust the switch. After it, connect the switch once again.

5.1 Network connection by a twisted pair cable

5.1.1 Twisted pair cable

A cable of a twisted pair consists of 4 sets of twisted insulated wire. That's advantage in sending analog signal and sending data on the shorter distance mainly. The maximum transmission distance is 100m.

I. About RJ45 connector

A twisted pair cable connects network equipment through RJ-45 connector in both ends. RJ-45 connector is indicated on Figure 5-1.

III. Type of cable

1) Performance An Ethernet cable depends on performance, and, category 3 or 4 or 5 or 5 e, 6 or 6 A and 7, it's classified. Category 5 cables, category 5, 5e and category 6 are generally used in the LAN.

To establish normal communication, pin for transmission data has to make them match with pin for receive data in an opposite port. When a port of one device is MDI or MDI-X, and a port of the device opposite is already MDI or MDI-X, a crossing cable is necessary. The MDI/MDI-X type connects the same device to a crossing cable. When MDI and the other are MDI-X, a straight cable needs one port. A straight cable connects device different in the MDI/MDI-X type.

When the auto-MDI/MDI-X function is effective by RJ-45 Ethernet interface, the role of the pin is put together automatically.

NOTE: RJ-45 Ethernet interface of QX-S5500 series is supporting auto-MDI/MDI-X function. The auto-MDI/MDI-X function is effective at a port by default.

5.1.2 Connection by a twisted pair cable

10/100/1000BASE-T port of QX-S5500 series uses RJ-45 connector and supports auto-MDI/MDI-X function. Use a twisted pair cable of Category - more than 5 for a network connection of the switch.

I. Network connection procedure of the switch by a twisted pair cable

1) As occasion demands, make straight or a cross Ethernet cable. 2) A something of a twisted pair cable is connected to Ethernet RJ-45 port of the

connected switch. 3) Connect the other end of a twisted pair cable to Ethernet RJ-45 port of interconnect

equipment. 4) Check whether an LED in Ethernet RJ-45 port is normal.

5.2 Network connection by a fiber-optic cable

Connect a fiber connector with a SFP module.

Make the SFP port effective.

Install a SFP module in the switch and opposite device.

5.2.1 Establishment of a SFP module

NOTE: This section describes establishment of a SFP module and an operational guideline.

I. Installation procedure of a SFP module

1) Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap and make sure it makes good skin contact and is well grounded.

2) Raise to the module upper part until a latch of a SFP module is fixed. 3) Insert in a module in the slot and be crowded with both sides of the SFP module. 4) Force by a thumb until a SFP module is fixed. 5) Check that a latch of a SFP module is fixed.

WARNING: Do not remove the dust-proof cover before connecting a fiber optic-cable. When a fiber-optic cable is connected to each module, please establish each module after a fiber-optic

cable is removed. Don't touch joining terminal of a SFP module.

5.2.2 Connection of optical fiber connector and a SFP module

I. Optical fiber connector

When connecting an optical fiber, confirm that the kind of connectors and fibers match the type of the optical interface.

Optical interface of QX-S5500 series uses the LC fiber connector indicated in Figure 5-5.

II. Connection of a fiber

1) Remove a protection against dust-cap from a connector and clean the point surface of the fiber.

2) Remove dust-proof cover of a SFP module so that it may be indicated in Figure 5-6. Connect one plug of a fiber connector to the optical interface of SFP module installed

CAUTION: When a connector isn't connected, close a cover of optical interface. When dust-proof cover is open, or a fiber connector isn't connected to optical interface, don't look at optical

interface directly. Refer to "preparing for installation" as a notice about a laser. The sending and receiving direction of data is recorded on SFP/SFP+/XFP module. Please check the

RX/TX position of SFP/SFP+/QSFP+ module by the direction of RX/TX which is ▲ or ↑. After checking these, connect a fiber connector appropriately.

6 Upgrading Software/Boot ROM

6.1 Upgrade method

This chapter introduces about the way to upgrade Software/Boot ROM of switch.

You can load the Software/Boot ROM locally by using: Boot menu Xmodem via the console port TFTP via an Ethernet port FTP via an Ethernet port You can load the Software/Boot ROM remotely by using: FTP TFTP

6.2 Upgrade of software by local

If your terminal is directly connected to the switch, you can load Software locally.

Before loading the software, make sure that your terminal is correctly connected to the switch.

6.2.1 Boot menu

It's indicated taking the QX-S5526P switch for instance. After turning on the power of the switch, a Boot Rom program is executed first. The following information is shown to a terminal display.

NOTE: When "3 Display all files in flash" on the Boot menu is chosen, the file name of all stored in FLASH ROM is indicated. When starting, a file with (*) is the file which is chosen as a used application software in the head.

6.2.2 Upgrade of software by TFTP

1) Choose Ethernet interface of QX-S5500 series switch for download. Connect QX-S5500 series switch to the terminal where a downloaded file through an interface is put. (We assume that the IP address of a terminal is known.) At the same time, Connect QX-S5500 series switch to the terminal where a downloaded file through a console port is put.

2) Execute a TFTP server program on the terminal connected to QX-S5500 series switch through Ethernet interface for download. Specify a file pass of an upgrade program.

NOTE: You aren't supported with a TFTP server program in the switch of the QX series.

3) Run the terminal emulation program on the PC connected with the switch’s console

port. 4) Select "1" in the Boot Menu, and then press <Enter> to enter the download program

menu shown below: 1. Set TFTP protocol parameter 2. Set FTP protocol parameter 3. Set XMODEM protocol parameter 0. Return to boot menu Enter your choice(0-3):1 5) Select "1" in the download program menu to download the software by using TFTP.

Press <Enter>. The following message begins setting of a TFTP parameter, and is indicated.

Please modify your TFTP protocol parameter: Load File name: Switch IP address: Server IP address: 6) Input related information based on an actual important matter, and push down <Enter>.

6.2.3 Upgrade of software by FTP

6.2.4 Upgrade of software by Xmodem

NOTE: When upgrading software by an Xmodem protocol, use a terminal emulation program which corresponds to an Xmodem protocol. A circuit band is small and Xmodem needs much time in software download work. It's explained about an operational example of Hyper Terminal in Windows XP by this document.

1) Select "1" in the Boot Menu, and then press Enter to enter the download program

menu shown below: Bootrom update menu: 1. Set TFTP protocol parameter 2. Set FTP protocol parameter 3. Set XMODEM protocol parameter 0. Return to boot menu 2) Select "3" in the download program menu to download the software by using Xmodem.

Please push down <Enter>. The system displays the following download baud rate setting menu:

Please select your download baudrate: 1. 9600 2. 19200 3. 38400 4. 57600 5. 115200 0. Return Enter your choice (0-5):5 3) Select an appropriate download baud rate. For example, if you select "5", the 115200

bps rate is chosen, and the system displays the following information: Download baudrate is 115200 bps.Please change the terminal's baudrate to 115200 bps, and select XMODEM protocol. Press enter key when ready. 4) Change the baud rate setting of a setting terminal so that a baud rate may become

same as the download speed of the software with a prompt above-mentioned. If baud rate setting by a setting terminal is completed, a terminal is cut and it's connected again. Please begin to push down <Enter> and download it. The following information is shown to a terminal.

Now please start transfer file with XMODEM protocol. If you want to exit, Press <Ctrl+X>. Downloading ...CCCCC

NOTE: After changing the baud rate of a terminal, the new settings can take effect only after you reestablish the connection.

5) Select [Transfer\Send File] in the HyperTerminal’s window. Click Browse in the pop-up

dialog box (as shown in Figure 6-1) to select the application file to be downloaded (for example, update.app), and select Xmodem from the Protocol drop-down list.

6) Click Send. The following dialog box appears:

7) After the program file is downloaded, the terminal displays the following information: Loading ...CCCCCCCCCC done! ## Total Size = 0x00055d40 = 351552 Bytes Your baudrate should be set to 9600 bps again! Press enter key when ready.

8) Cut a connection in a hyper terminal once. Reset HyperTerminal’s baud rate to 9600

bps. If setting is completed, it's connected again in a hyper terminal. 9) The menu is indicated again, so input "0", and please return to the Boot menu. Restart

the switch by inputting "0" by the Boot menu.

6.3 Upgrade of software by remote

When a terminal is connected to the switch by a network, software can be upgraded remotely.

6.3.1 Upgrade of software by FTP

Carry out the FTP server as which the user name, a password and a file directory are set right on the local end. An IP address of a terminal is 10.10.110.1. Log on to the switch via Telnet and send a host program to the switch using a FTP.

The software program is made SWITCH.app. After logging on to the switch using Telnet, follow the next procedure. 1) Download the software to the switch using FTP. <QX> ftp 10.10.110.1 Trying ... Before restarting the switch, make sure other configurations are all saved to avoid the loss of configuration information.

Therefore specification of the software used at next-startup is completed. To confirm the upgrade of software, restart the switch. After a load of Boot Rom has been completed when space of a flash memory isn't enough, it's possible to delete several files in the flash memory. It's recommended to delete the software which isn't used. Upload software using a FTP. Power interruption is not allowed during software loading.

6.3.2 Upgrade of software by TFTP

The remote loading by using TFTP is similar to the remote loading by using FTP. The only difference is that it is TFTP that you use when loading software to the switch. In this case, the switch can only be used as a TFTP client. The remaining step after download is just same as the occasion of the remote load with a FTP.

When a terminal is connected to the switch by a network, Boot ROM software can be upgraded remotely.

Carry out the FTP server as which the user name, a password and a file directory are set right on the local end. An IP address of a terminal is 10.10.110.1. Log on to the switch via Telnet and send a host program to the switch using a FTP.

7 Maintenance and Troubleshooting

7.1 Exchange of a power supply module

CAUTION: QX-S5526T has power supply module of the AC type and DC-type. You can select AC power module or DC power module for your switch as needed. Install power supply modules of the same model on the switch. for power supply redundancy or a maintenance exchange.

1) Reduce a fixed screw of the power supply module using a screwdriver. 2) Draw an exchanged module and remove a slot. 3) Take new power supply module out from a package. 4) Confirm whether power supply module is for AC power supplies or DC power

supply.(see Figure 7-1)

CAUTION: The power supply module is heavy, so please treat by both hands. Correctly orient the power module with

the power supply module slot, grasp the handle of the power supply module with one hand and pull the handle slowly with opposite hand. If only one power supply module is installed, install a power filler module in the empty power supply module slot for good ventilation of the switch.

To prevent damage to the connectors inside the switch chassis, insert the power supply module gently. If you encounter a hard resistance while inserting the power supply module, pull out the power module and insert it again.

When a fixed screw doesn't tighten well, there is a possibility that a power supply module isn't inserted right. Confirm whether a power supply module is inserted correctly.

7.2 Software Loading Failure

When a software load was failed, system must start up by original software, or perform an update locally from the Boot menu. Check the following and download software once again. A physical port is connected right. Make sure that sufficient space at a flash memory is available for the upgrading

software file. When there are no problems with both of a connection in a physical port and the free space of the flash memory, verify the message about an input error of the upgrade procedure shown to a terminal. 1) When a baud rate is established besides the 9600 bps after loading software in a case

with Xmodem, please verify whether it was set as 9600 bps once again. 2) When using TFTP, please verify whether the next is specified right. A server and the switch IP address are right. The name of the loaded software is right. The TFTP server address which moves on the program file is right. 3) When using FTP, please verify whether the next is specified right. A server and the switch IP address are right. The name of the loaded software is right. A username and a password are right.

7.3 Password recovery

7.3.1 Password recovery of user password

When losing the user password, a password recovery is made of the Boot menu.

7.4 Power Supply Failure

You can check whether the power system of the switch fails by viewing the PWR LED on the front panel. When the power supply system functions normally, the PWR LED should be ON. Otherwise, please check whether The switch power cable is properly connected. The power supply meets the requirement.

7.5 Configuration terminal problems

If the configuration environment setup is correct, the configuration terminal displays booting information when the switch is powered on. If the setup is incorrect, the configuration terminal displays nothing or garbled text.

I. No terminal display

If the configuration terminal displays nothing when the switch is powered on, verify the following items: The power supply module is supplying power to the switch. The console cable is properly connected. The console cable has no problem and the terminal settings are correct.

II. Garbled terminal display

If terminal display is garbled, verify that the following settings are configured for the terminal, for example, HyperTerminal: Baud rate—9600 Data bits—8 Parity—none Stop bits—1 Flow control—none Emulation—VT100
