COMMITMENT TO SAFETY At Waste Management, safety is far more than just a program or strategy. It is a core value, a cornerstone of our operational excellence. Our goal is to attain world-class safety and, more importantly, to be the safest company in our industry.

Waste Management’s Mission to Zero (M2Z) initiative establishes a zero tolerance policy for unsafe behaviors and actions. Through this program, Waste Management has focused on making improvements in key areas, including those monitored by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The Industrial Waste Processing team has implemented a behavioral-based safety program to promote improvements in our system and processes as potential issues are identified.

COMMITMENT TO QUALITY Our Industrial Waste Processing team provides quality dewatering services across a broad range of industries. No matter the industry or waste mix, we will develop customized Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) that allow us to accurately measure the best possible outcomes. KPI’s include: • Processing rate in gallons & barrels / minute • BS&W solids in centrate water (or improved capture rate) • Water by weight in solids • Pass/Fail on paint filter test • Net weight per roll-off box or end-dump • Unscheduled Processing Equipment Down Time • Chemical Consumption

These KPI’s help us customize design specifications that work towards your goals, including solids moisture level, oil quality, discharge water quality and more. But we don’t stop there— we’ll continue to evaluate your KPI's on a regular basis to ensure your goals are continually met.

One of the key differentiators from our competitors is our remote monitoring (WM IGNITIONSM) system. It helps us provide an open dialogue with our team and yours by performing some of these tests automatically, and reporting back on your parameters and where you stand with your performance goals. The WM IGNITIONSM system allows us to collect a large amount of data over time, allowing us to see trends, possible deficiencies, and track mechanical degradation of equipment so we can respond before a catastrophic failure.

WM Industrial Waste Processing Technology Our Industrial Waste Processing technology significantly reduces total suspended solids (TSS) from the centrate discharge.

Project specific KPIs are initially evaluated during feasibility studies and then incorporated into the system design. Final adjustments are made during system start-up by the Industrial Waste Processing services team to ensure performance criteria will be met. Once fully operational, these custom KPIs are monitored continuously using WM IGNITIONSM to verify system performance and identify when repairs or modifications are necessary. Real-time verification of their system operations is available to the customer using the WM IGNITIONSM platform.

Our Industrial Waste Processing team aims for innovation and constant improvement by implementing new technologies that address customer and disposal concerns. When a problem emerged regarding the odor and landfill placement of the wet sludges produced from centrifuge processing, we responded by developing a system that combined the centrifuges with thermal drying to produce drier solids that can be directly landfilled and more easily stacked without additional amending or conditioning.

SCOPING, TESTING & DESIGN SERVICES The Industrial Waste Processing team  has a combined 200 years of on-site processing facility experience with a thorough understanding of the project requirements, constraints and challenges involved in properly scoping, designing and improving the waste process. Our seasoned engineers and operators are inside refineries, petrochemical plants and hazardous waste treatment and disposal facilities every day, ready to consult with customers. We operate in challenging environments and excel at making the resource recovery process more efficient and effective.

FINE-TUNING YOUR WASTE PROCESSING PROGRAM We don’t keep our expertise to ourselves— we provide it as a resource to our customers to help them optimize their waste processing and resource recovery needs. The deep understanding of these complex systems demonstrated by our team of field engineers and technicians allows for maximum effectiveness, seamless integration and the fine-tuning of operations and maintenance protocols. Our first step for any project is to coordinate a technical discovery meeting and site visit to the customer’s facility. During this meeting, our seasoned team of operations leaders and technicians will work closely with facility personnel to understand the project needs and establish initial KPIs. Together, we’ll troubleshoot the challenges presented by waste streams and implement strategies to assist in reducing operating costs.

Innovative Dewatering & Resource Recovery ServicesA large-scale national poultry producer with complex sludge dewatering and oil recovery wanted to unlock the operational and ROI potential of its centrifuge and wastewater processing system. The original centrifuge was installed for the purposes of dewatering sludge and recovering cooking oil. The purchased centrifuge required the facility to maintain a specific blend of dissolved area flotation (DAF) 1 and DAF 2 sludge to maintain speed or output quality. When combined, only half of the daily volume of DAF sludges could be processed without seriously degrading outputs. Additionally, water returned to the head of the treatment system contained highly inconsistent total suspended solids (TSS) ranging from 1,000 to 6,500 mg/L. Oil recovered from this process was given an “industrial grade” rating, the lowest commodity value.

Starting with a comprehensive audit and step-by-step recommendations, the Industrial Waste Processing team applied its expertise to address these challenges. We began by analyzing the highly variable and complex emulsion composition of the influent sludge waste stream as well as the effluent moisture content and oil recovery. Our team of experts were able to fine-tune the process (e.g., spin rates, feed rates, pH and processed solids handling) to account for product variations to bring operations to full capacity, reduce downtime, amplify solids concentration and increase the yield and value of recovered oil by 4-5 times while upgrading recovered oil from industrial grade to premium.

One of the main goals of The Texas Railroad Commission is ensuring that Texas’ natural resources are not wasted. As a result, reclamation from oil and gas waste streams is highly encouraged. The Industrial Waste Processing team operates a Texas Railroad Commission permitted R-9 Reclamation Plant. Using heat, chemical and mechanical separation, the Industrial Waste Processing service can remove basic sediment and water from what normally would be considered an unusable product. The solids portion that is removed is transported to a permitted Waste Management landfill, and the water is injected into a TXRRC permitted deep-well for secure disposal. The reclaimed crude oil is then a clean, usable resource that is sold back to the crude oil markets.

Crude oil can come into the Industrial Waste Processing plant in many forms. Some of the most common sources of crude oil

requiring reclamation are tank bottoms from pipeline storage, production tanks, refinery crude oil storage tanks, rail car bottoms and crude oil barges. The viscosity of the material ranges from easily flowable to extremely thick. The Industrial Waste Processing facility can accept vacuum boxes, roll-off boxes and tankers. A pit is used to offload, and if the customer so desires, a wash-out can be conducted.

The Industrial Waste Processing team has successfully taken in many streams of crude oil for reclamation that normally would have gone to landfill disposal or thermal desorption. Before making a disposal decision, please consider reclamation. Let our Industrial Waste Processing team help reduce your environmental liability while conserving valuable natural resources at the same time.

THERMAL DESORPTION UNIT (TDU) PROJECTS The principals of the Industrial Waste Processing team have extensive experience with Thermal Desorption Units (TDU) across the United States, many having previously worked for a major thermal desorption waste company.

Waste Management currently owns and operates a TDU at the Arlington, Oregon RCRA treatment and disposal facility.

The Industrial Waste Processing team currently operates an Oil Recovery Unit (ORU) in conjunction with one of the nation's newest TDU's located at the Waste Management Lake Charles, Louisiana RCRA treatment and disposal facility.

BIOLOGICAL RETENTION POND DEWATERING AT FOOD PROCESSING FACILITY In 2016 the Industrial Waste Processing team was contacted by a large poultry processing facility to dewater finished biological sludge from the plant’s wastewater treatment retention ponds. Due to an upset condition, the ponds required immediate attention to prevent plant down time.

The portability of our system is ideally suited for event work and scenarios requiring rapid deployment. The Industrial Waste Processing team was initially contacted on a Friday afternoon and immediately began preparing and sourcing all necessary equipment to ensure it was on-site by Monday morning. The system was fully operational by Wednesday morning. The first load of dewatered biosolids was delivered to a Waste Management landfill on Wednesday, less than a week after the first contact was made.

The Industrial Waste Processing team was onsite 24-hours per day, seven days per week for just over six weeks. During that time, the system averaged 95 gpm and approximately 20 hours per day of processing time, with no unplanned downtime. Over 1,800 tons of dewatered solids were sent to the landfill and required no additional treatment, freeing up almost three years of operating space for the wastewater plant.

DESIGN, BUILD & OPERATE REFINERY BIO SLUDGE & EVENT PROCESSING FACILITYThe Industrial Waste Processing team went to work on a 3-phase processing operation in a Texas refinery, upgrading the process design, and adding state-of-the-art equipment to optimize separation and increase capacity and efficiency. Timing was critical to prevent disruption of the client’s wastewater treatment operations, and the engineering and fabrication teams were able to seamlessly fit the new system to the existing piping at the job site within 48 hours of arriving.

Our improved operation delivered immediate results, doubling the post-processing solids content of the waste stream and eliminating waste solidification surcharges at the disposal facility. Our Industrial Waste Processing services team is the first contractor to successfully process the site’s “river-mud” stream, and is assisting with event work, including a complex and ever-changing sludge stream from a large wastewater tank cleanout.

While the equipment upgrade contributed to the site’s increased capacity, the improved processing flexibility is due mostly to our operational expertise and attention to detail and careful control of variables such as spin rate, feed rate and chemical dosage.

EXPLORATION & PRODUCTION OIL RECOVERY FACILITIESOur Industrial Waste Processing team has designed, built and operated several processing facilities specific to Exploration & Production (E&P) waste streams. We work with each client to determine their needs and desired outcomes, while handling operations.

In 2011, the Industrial Waste Processing team principals designed and built the Industrial Waste Processing facility located in Lufkin, TX. Our Industrial Waste Processing team operates a Texas Railroad Commission permitted reclamation facility, focused on oil recovery of crude wastes associated with exploration, production and transportation.

In 2012, the Industrial Waste Processing team began working with Waste Management designing a Mud Processing and Oil Recovery Facility for the Covel Gardens Landfill located in San Antonio, TX. This facility, utilizing 2-phase and 3-phase centrifuge technology, was able to process 8,000 bbls of drilling fluids per day while reducing the solid waste stream, saving valuable air space in the landfill. The process was also able to recover oil from drilling fluids processed.

In 2019, the Industrial Waste Processing team started E&P processing operations for drilling muds and fluids at locations in Texas and Mississippi.

CENTRIFUGE AND COKER INJECTION OPERATIONS IN FIVE MAJOR GULF COAST REFINERIES By 2000, the principals of the Industrial Waste Processing team had taken the refinery industry from having no centrifuge technology to operating complete process facilities in five major Gulf Coast refineries, with plans to operate in refineries across the country.

The processes designed by our Industrial Waste Processing team principals proved to be a success, creating a drier cake than previous technologies and providing optimum secondary treatment of the solids. In some cases, hazardous waste solids were eliminated completely by utilizing coker injection and fuel blending of the centrifuge cake.

Non-Hazardous & Biological WWTP Streams: The principals found that many refineries were using belt presses for biological streams. The new centrifuge allowed them to produce a drier solid, reducing transportation and off-site disposal costs of non-hazardous biological streams, sometimes by 50%.

Hazardous Waste Streams: The ability to achieve drier solids also applied to hazardous waste. The 8,000 Btu per pound requirement was met and a coker injection process was designed for solids coming off the centrifuge and other areas within the refinery. The solids were prepared and injected into the quench cycle of the refinery cokers and helped eliminate some hazardous waste streams.
