Direct selling is an industry that is said to be dominated by women. A recent report by the World Federation of Direct Selling Association (WFDSA) says that 80% of the 90 million people involved in direct selling are women, and report by Direct Selling News in 2012 states that more than 65 million women around the world see direct selling as a means to gain control of their own time because it enables them to earn a good sum while working in other full-time or part-time careers and while performing their duties as wives and mothersAnyone can engage in direct selling in different ways—as a customer, a retailer, a business builder, or all three. What makes it perfect for women in particular lies in that very fact. Because direct selling is an equal opportunity business, it also means it is a gender-neutral one where women are able to get the same opportunity and get paid the same way as men. Likewise, most of the challenges women face would be similar to those that men face. Of course, women in certain countries would have challenges specific to their culture, but in general direct selling is a very empowering business for women. Take Avon for example. The company prides itself for its commitment to female empowerment, in fact going so far as to call itself “The Company For Women” and claiming that the product Avon offers is not makeup but economic opportunity for women all over the world. This is also the driving force that led Jessica Herrin to build Stella & Dot, a “social selling” jewellery company that provides womenwith an entrepreneurial platform where they get a starter kit with the supplies and samples they'll need to sell jewellery and handbags at trunk shows or on their own e-commerce websites. And it is not only financially that direct selling benefits women. Beyond the flashy car or the mansion, women dream of providing a better life for themselves and their loved ones. Married women in particular place a high importance on being able to earn a living without having to sacrifice the time they are supposed to spend with their family. In India, for instance, where women are raised to aspire to be perfect homemakers, direct selling has provided them with the chance to do this while being able to work when they prefer. Chavi Hemanth, secretary general of the Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA), says this has given women the opportunity to developfurther use of their skills, time, and knowledge.

Donna Imson, Executive Chairperson ofQNET, says one of the reasons she loves direct selling so much is because it can be woven into anyone’s everyday life. She recalls how she would take her then three-year-old daughter to presentations while her older children were in school, how she has always been able to plan her day around them while they were busy at school and go back to being a full time mum by the time they were back home with her. According to Ms Imson, the direct selling profession is a gift to women because it provides a great environment for women who want to have it all—personal, relational, financial success. As such, one of the key foundations of direct selling is their investment in people’s personal development. Women are very often subjected to feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem, and the great thing about direct selling organisations is that they provide trainings and seminars which really develop the confidence women have in their skills and innate potential to succeed. Furthermore, direct selling also taps into women’s inherent desire to help others and create a better world by enabling them to be business builders and teaching them that peoplebecome successful as they help others succeed. Women are encouraged to embrace their unique strengths, harness these, lead and work on adding incredible value to the organisation, while maintaining their feminine edge.It could be said that women are the heart of the direct selling industry. And with the 21st century being said to be the Women’s Century, now is the best time for women in direct selling to push themselves to be the best they can be.

Page 19: Qnet media coverage August 2013.

46 million women around the world find direct selling to be the answer to gain extra income and enhance their way of living With network marketing being a topic of interest recently in Egypt, we spoke to Donna Imson, the Executive Chairperson of QNET to find out what makes this profession so attractive to women, the attributes one needs to make it in this business and how it helps women. More than 46 million women around the world find direct selling to be the answer to gaining control of their own time, often while working in other full- or part-time careers and while being wives and mothers—managers of households. Statistics show that more than 80% of people involved in this industry globally are women. People can engage in direct selling in different ways- as a customer, a retailer, a business builder, or all three. At its core, direct selling is simply an alternative channel of distributing products and services that bypasses middlemen and retail stores, avoids costly advertising and directly sells to customers while compensating those who refer customers. It taps into the most effective form of advertising- word-of-mouth. As a business, it is one of the oldest forms of social entrepreneurship. As such, a combination of a genuine desire to help people coupled with a driving passion for success would be a critical factor for anyone wanting to be a business builder. The adage I was taught as a newbie in the profession 20 years ago still holds true today- The most important factor is the ‘WHY’. WHY did you choose to get into Network Marketing in the first place? NM is one of the most difficult things anyone can do. It’s nowhere near easy and although it’s simple, it is certainly not quick.

Page 20: Qnet media coverage August 2013.

46 million women around the world find direct selling to be the answer to gain extra income and enhance their way of living To assume a leadership position, women have to first recognize that we are worthy of the leadership position; that we deserve it, and that the organization needs us. We are the heart of an organisation. Can you imagine what an organization would be like without its heart? Most times we don’t lead because we don’t believe we can. We hide under the excuse that women are better followers. NM is filled with strong, determined men. That’s not an arena that we can compete in and win. Instead, we need to embrace our unique strengths, harness these, and work on adding incredible value to the organization, while maintaining our feminine edge. Women have different needs and wants. Beyond the flashy car or the mansion, women dream of providing better education and wellbeing, more flexibility of hours, and more opportunities to give to themselves and their loved ones. One of the biggest drawbacks for women in general is grappling with insecurity or low self-esteem in a larger way. One survey says that 75% of women deal with insecurity in one form or another. Organizations need to develop programs that build up and empower women. That’s where I find that the personal development side of DS is so amazing, because it really develops the confidence women have in themselves.

Germs are all around usin the air and on all surfaces we touch: Phones, computer keyboard and mouse, light switches, TV remote, door handles, etc.In fact, some studies suggest that touch screen smart phones and computer keyboards have more germs and bacteria than a toilet bowl. Germs also have their favorite environment, their ways to travel, and if they are harmful, they have their own ways of causing disease. Doctors say that 70% of all contagious diseases are contracted through hand contact. Our immune systems are being overwhelmed, overworked and over exposed to toxins and stresses of all kinds as now we are exposed to new chemicals in water and in the air that did not exist just a few years ago. Even though the Disinfectants, antiseptics and antibiotics are usually known as the first and second lines of defense to kill disease, however they are toxic to human beings – even their fumes are toxic The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that hand hygiene is the primary measure to reduce infections. Through a global campaign called Save Lives: Clean your Hands, the WHO promotes the need to wash and disinfect hands as a method of controlling the spread of communicable diseases. Since ancient times, silver has been highly regarded as a versatile healing tool, and as an effective and natural disinfectant. In ancient Greece, Rome, Phoenicia and Macedonia, it was used extensively to control infection while Hippocrates, the ‘Father of Medicine’ taught that silver healed wounds and controlled disease. Since ancient times, silver has been highly regarded as a versatile healing tool, and as an effective and natural disinfectant. In ancient Greece, Rome, Phoenicia and Macedonia, it was used extensively to control infection while Hippocrates, the ‘Father of Medicine’ taught that silver healed wounds and controlled disease In World War I, before the advent of antibiotics, silver was an important weapon against disease on the battlefield, used on wounded soldiers. More recently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US approved a breathing tube with a fine coating of silver, after it was established that it reduced the risk of ventilator-associated pneumonia. Silver has also played an important role in the development of radiology and in improving wound healing. And that’s just one example of the many roles silver plays in medicine today.

Page 24: Qnet media coverage August 2013.

In modern times however, many bacteria have become resistant to pharmaceutical antibiotics and silver is emerging once more as a germ killer. During the last several decades, the technology of silver as a germ fighter has continued to evolve. Silver Sol® technology, patented in the USA by American Biotech Labs in 2007 is one of the most revolutionary developments in the use of silver for medicinal purposes. Known for its anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties, SilverSol is becoming popular in many new treatments. According to the U.S. patent (approved Nov. 2007), Silver Sol has the ability to destroy 143 types of bacteria, both forms of viruses, mold, yeast, and a limited number of parasites. QNET’s BioSilver 22 Gel, an advanced skincare product uses SilverSol® Technology, featuring the power of engineered nano-silver that can be applied topically for cleansing, sanitizing or even as part of daily skincare routine. BioSilver 22 is a clear, odorless non-greasy gel that contains no alcohol or preservatives and does not dry the skin. It is recommended for external use on skin for treatment of acne, rashes, bruises, light burns and for various cleansing and sanitizing purposes. Elisa Bacongallo, a 40-year old Finance Executive in the Philippines, had been dealing with chronic acne ravaging her face, neck and back for years. She tried multiple products, endorsed by international celebrities, recommended by her friends and prescribed by dermatologists and none of those worked for her. She also had to deal with the embarrassment and the low self-confidence brought by her persistent skin problem. A chance meeting with an old colleague led to her being advised to try Bio Silver 22 Gel. With doubt and reluctance, she purchased one tube. Her first few days of applying the product on her face brought no visible results but after one week of using it, she noticed that her acne was starting to dry up and her blemishes were clearing up. She saw the full transformation after one month of regular use. Today, her skin is clean, clear, hydrated, supple and glowing. QNET has recently launched the BioSilver 22 Gel for its customers in Egypt.

She finalized her words by saying that inorder for Network Marketing to prevail the world; there should be strict legislations to be issued by all countries to solve the current misconception between Pyramid Scheme and Network Marketing. “Malaysia has already issued these legislations, and today the direct selling contributes to $ 3 billion annually” she said. QNET, the leading direct selling company worldwide hosted an Egyptian Media visit for the first time to its Headquarters in Malaysia; the team were welcomed by Mr Haldun Arin, COO for QNET who spoke about his company’s strategy in Egypt and the Middle East Region. In an exclusive interview with Al Youm7 Newspaper, Mr Haldun stressed on the fact that Network Marketing will continue to contribute to the economic welfare of countries in operation, as it provides a wide range of activities, including logistics, shipments and Taxation. He also added that since QNET was first established, it promised its clients to provide them with a variety of useful products. “Today, we have a wide range of products, including Health Care Cosmetics, Tourism Packages and we have a share at many resorts in Sharm Al Sheikh as well ”, he said. When asked about the current situation in Egypt and whether it will affect QNET’S long and short term goals in Egypt, he replied that these current events do have a marginal effect on the company’s operation in Egypt , especially that many Egyptians trust the company’s products and services. The Company’s success in Egypt doesn’t go back to the company’s strategy alone, but to the International Representatives who execute it successfully as well. According to Mr Haldun, Egyptians are business men and merchants by nature, and they are quite talented in the art of Persuasion, and thus they can turn out to be successful business men over the next 6 years. It is all about hard work, he said. QNET’s history in Egypt goes back to 2008, and from the moment it began entering the Egyptian Market, it believed in the strategic role this country plays in the Middle East, that’s why it cared to be a legal entity in the country, especially after the recent debates around this business, and this misconception between legal and illegal companies. Currently the company has a representative office in Egypt; in addition to a distribution Center & Call Center covering the Middle East Region. Mr Haldun finalized his words saying that he really hopes Egypt could recover soon from the current crisis. It is all about how Teamwork brings success to the whole company. We will continue to support our representatives in Egypt, because “if they succeeded, we all do”
