Teacher-CenteredLearningvs.Student-CenteredLearningwithAaronJamesTeachersoftenteachinthesamemannerinwhichtheyweretaught.Mostteachersrationalizethisbythinkingthat,“IfIlearnedinthisway,thenitmustbeagoodwaytoteach.”However,quiteoftenteachingintraditionalclassroomstylesonlyincreasesthechancesofcertaintypesoflearnerstosucceed.Teacher-centeredlearningisonesuchtraditionalmethodwhichfocusesontrainingthelearnerbyrote-learningandmemorization.Alternativeapproaches,whichincludestudent-centeredlearning/teachingandthecommunicativelanguageteachingmethod(CLT),havedevelopedtechniqueswhichcanfreetheteacherfromtheconstraintsoftraditionalpracticesbothteachersandlearnersareusedto,aswellasintroduceactivitiesandtaskswhichlearnersmightfindmoreinterestingandrelevanttotheirlearninggoals.Inthispresentation,Icontrastteacher-centeredandstudent-centeredlearning/teachingandprovidesomepracticalguidesforteacherstoaugment,revitalize,orincludeintheirpresentteachingmethodology,andpractice.
