Acids

During the acid production process, conductivity ismeasured to control acid concentration, brine solutions,and phase separation, as well as to monitor the waste-water, boiler feed, and condensate return. pH is used in thecooling water cycle and wastewater treatment, and playsa major role in citric acid production. METTLER TOLEDO provides robust, reliable and long-lifemeasurement solutions for all these critical steps.

Fertilizers

During the production of granulated ammonia phosphate,it is critical that the pH is reliably controlled in order toensure the addition of the proper amount of liquid ammo-nia to the phosphate solution. Due to the harsh conditionsin the reaction vessel, the pH is measured indirectly in thescrubber. For these applications METTLER TOLEDO offersautomated cleaning and measuring solutions to optimizesensor lifetime and reduce maintenance costs

Adhesives

Especially in glue production, the surface of the pH sensorhas to guarantee a stable signal even under tough condi-tions. Pesticides

During the synthesis and formulation process, pH is moni-tored in order to achieve higher product conversion yieldand to avoid the release of harmful substances. Conductiv-ity is used for controlling separation processes and formonitoring of O2 to prevent oxidation. Pressures and tem-peratures are high, and acid solutions can reduce the lifeof the electrodes. METTLER TOLEDO offers powerful systemsolutions and cleaning systems to provide long operationallife of the electrode and to optimize the cost of ownership.

Chlor alkali process

The chlor alkali process is fundamental to a variety of end-products. Conductivity is used for monitoring thecaustic soda concentration, wastewater, boiler feed waterand brine cycles. pH is mainly measured during neutral-ization of the brine before electrolysis, to control elimina-tion of chlorine. Wet scrubbers

pH is controlled inline in order to achieve efficient use ofwash concentration and chemical reagents, to avoidscaling or soft plugging. This application is very challeng-ing due to the abrasive and corrosive environment, favor-ing the use of premium-quality pH electrodes. Soaps, detergents and cleaners

For the neutralization of fatty acids, automatic control of pH is paramount. During glycerine recovery and saponifi-cation steps of fats and oils, pH and conductivity aremeasured during reduction of alkalinity in order to controlthe flow of neutralizing agent and to control the electrolyteconcentration of the washing lye.
