IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL
MEDIA PRODUCTS?
TITLE OF THE MAGAZINE
V.SI personally think that my magazine title LDN follows the convention of my inspirational magazine NME similarly they both use three letter words whereas NME stands for ‘new musical express’ mine simply stands for London. I wanted to mirror the cool, sophisticated, cosmopolitan essence of London within a magazine and I felt shortening this to LDN would mirror these ideas.
Although the colouring and the lettering are not dis-similar to NME I haven’t seen another magazine on the market with a name that is a shortened title of a town or city for example MCR for Manchester. I’ve chosen to stick to the conventions when choosing a title theme and colouring as magazines such as NME sell well and grab the readers attention as I would wish my magazine to do.
To conclude I feel that although my title LDN matches the conventions of existing magazines this is important as NME is a successful magazine and that is what I would wish to achieve and contact the right target audience.
MISE-EN-SCENE OF IMAGES
INSPIRATION
For my mise-en-scene of my front cover image I wanted to go for something similar to Lady GaGa. I feel that her image is very
strong and her harsh make up and costume stands out and immediately draws a consumers attention directly to the
magazine.
PRODUCTS USEDHere are some
images of the main props,
make up and costume I used
in my photo shoot.
I stuck to the main colour scheme of my magazine when choosing colours for my costume and make up I felt this would help to link into the idea of a minimalist cool magazine.
Here is my final image as it appears on my front cover I have edited it heavily and used effects such as adjusting tone and contrast in order to create a high fashion/ professional image. I wanted to appear aggressive and edgy as my research shows in magazines such as NME and Rolling Stone most of there main cover images portray an artist showing a strong emotion.
Here I have cropped the main image of my front cover to represent the rebellious and almost violent image I am
Portraying in order to create an edgy image. I feel that I am using the image
idea by biting on my headphones furthering the rebellious image. Here I feel I am mainly sticking to the conventions and only putting a slight twist on them.

PEOPLE
TITLE FONT+ STYLE
Yet again I have not challenged the conventions. I have instead used them in order to form a solid base. This was particularly hard when dealing with font and style as they all have to interlink and match each other slightly.
Here are some screen shots of my magazine illustrating font and style.
WRITTEN CONTENT
• The written content of my magazine is in the style of a formal interview and split into columns with a larger letter used at the beginning.
• I also mimicked taking a key quote out of my interview and putting it at the top of the page in order to attract the readers attention.
MUSIC GENRE+ SUGGESTION
• In order to suggest who my magazine should be aimed at I used clothing, attitudes of the models and mentioning musical festival such as v-festival and leeds festival.
• All of the above mentioned have clear target audiences and strong identity most magazines use this technique in order to appeal to the correct audience.
CONTENTS PAGE
My contents page is the only element of my magazine in which I feel I have challenged forms and conventions although my regulars box is a feature used in most music magazines I have included the top 5 downloaded songs for that week on the side of the page I feel this would appeal to the audience and is a small detail that could provide a big impact.
