On the Tuesday after the first Monday in May, 1992, and every four years thereafter, the voters of this State shall be given an opportunity to express their preference for the person to be the presidential candidate of their political party, except that if South Carolina holds its presidential primary before the 15th day of March, the North Carolina presidential preference primary shall be held on the Tuesday after the first South Carolina presidential preference primary of that year. 1988 - Canvass § 163-175 On the second day (Sunday excepted) next after every primary and elections, the county board of elections shall meet at 11:00 a.m. at the county courthouse or at the office of the county board of elections (the choice of location to be at the option of the county board of elections) to canvass the votes cast in the county and prepare the county abstracts.

2016 - Canvass§163-182(b) The county board of elections shall meet at 11:00 A.M. on the tenth day after every election held on the same day as a general election in November of the even-numbered year, and at 11:00 A.M. on the seventh day after every other election, to complete the canvass of votes cast and to authenticate the count in every ballot item in the county by determining that the votes have been counted and tabulated correctly. . . . . . . . . . . . . The canvass meeting shall be at the county board of elections office, unless the county board, by unanimous vote of all its members, designates another site within the county.

The county board shall examine the returns from precincts, from absentee official ballots, from the sample hand-to-eye paper ballot counts, and from provisional official ballots and shall conduct the canvass.

Notify Polling Places of the Exact Date for the PPP as soon as you know

Advise Precinct Officials of the exact date also

Make sure you have good contact information on Precinct Officials, including emails – it is so important to have access to officials for last minute issues

Submit a special interest story to your local newspaper as soon as the date is set to help educate voters

Check your supplies now, as you prepare for Municipal Elections, and immediately following the Municipals check your quantities again
