POP• COLOURS: the audience would expect to

see bright and vibrant colours from a pop magazine. Common colours for a pop magazine are pink, red and yellow.

• NEON colour’s are also very popular in pop magazines as they catch the readers attention.

• These colours in a pop magazine are good as this is what the audience expect from a POP magazine.

POP

• Speech is very important in pop culture.

There are many different things people say in the pop industry which are related to pop and are what people expect from this genre. This includes things such as an exaggerated sensitive need such as ‘I love you’ and ‘I need you.’ which is very popular in pop music.

POP

• The audience of a pop magazine would expect to see a certain dress throughout the magazine. The dress for a pop magazine is seen as a very 90’s style including cut off white T-shirts and denim for boys and revealing, skimpy clothing for girls. This dress suggests the personality of the pop stars as being quite cheesy which is a big expectation of pop magazines.

RAP

• The audience would expect to see certain colours when looking at a rap magazine. Theses colours would typically be quite dark and dingy colours such as blacks and grey’s however, the colour gold is also very popular in rap music which links to their dress.

RAP

• The speech is a lot more aggressive and direct within rap music. The speech includes a lot of swearing and they talk about money, fighting and sex and objectify women a lot. Their speech is also very self promoting also. All of this speech is what the audience expect from a rap artists.

RAP

• The audience for a rap magazine would also expect to see a certain dress throughout. In rap music, there is quite an obvious dress. This includes things such as snapbacks, bandanas, basketball shirts and gold chains. These things are closely related to urban, gang associated street wear. This dress is expected from rap stars and so the audience wouldn’t expect to see anything different from a rap, music magazine.

country• There isn’t a very obvious colour

which is used in country music magazines however there doesn't tend to be any bright colours which stand out. This is expected from the audience of country music magazines and they wouldn’t really expect to see any bright colours in this particular type of magazine,

country

• The more famous country stars tend to have a very specific type of speech which is carried out into the music magazine. This includes the constant talk about love and having a good time. Which is what the audience of this genre expects.

country

• The dress sense of country music is pretty obvious however is slightly changing. Country music stars are stereotypically known for wearing checked shirts and cowboy hats for boys and big hair and floral dresses for girls. This has slightly changed now and there isn’t much of a difference between how country stars dress and what people normally wear.

DANCE• The colours in dance magazines are

usually very random and bright. You often get colours such as green, blue and yellow in dance magazines alongside neon colours. These colours are all what the audience expect from the genre as dance music is related to going out clubbing/raving.

DANCE• There doesn't tend to be much

speech in dance music however of what there is, it is very repetitive and very limited throughout the song. The majority of dance music mainly has just the music and not much else. Of what speech there is, it is usually about partying and dancing.

DANCE

• The people in dance, music magazines tend to dress in a certain way. The boys wear quite bright, neon t-shirts with jeans and the girls wear quite revealing outfits. These magazines wouldn’t really present an image of wearing jackets etc because they are promoting going out clubbing and therefore show the right clothing.

Conclusion.

• From this PowerPoint, I can see that all music magazines portray there genre to the audience through three different conventions: Colour, Speech and dress. POP, RAP, COUNTRY and DANCE are all very different however have some of the same elements such as the colour of POP and DANCE music being the same as in how they are both use bright, neon colours whereas COUNTRY music and RAP music are very different in the sense that the dress is the complete opposite.
