1. Defining the Basic Concepts of Baby Boomer Aging and Retirement in the 21st Century

Every eight seconds a “baby boomer” becomes 65 years of age in the United States. These boomers have lived through: the Rock & Roll Era and Elvis; the assassination of President John F. Kennedy; the Civil Rights Movement; the Watts Riots, the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Vietnam War and Watergate. They have tuned in, turned on and dropped out and in again. They fought for: women’s rights to men’s jobs and equal pay; the right to their own body; the right not to fight the Vietnam War; the right to sit in any public place as an equal to all men; and defined their own sexuality with the help of the Hite Report and Dr. Joyce Brothers. Some famous “boomers” are Cher, Bill and Hilary Clinton, George W. Bush to name just a few. They are role models to many Americans and leaders in their own right.

Today the “Boomers” are fighting a new revolution…the right to not retirement

and work well into these, so called, retirement years and maintain a of quality of life they thought they were planning for all their lives. With the advances of modern medicine they are healthier, will live longer and enjoy life spiritual and physically more than any other senior citizens in history. They are facing new barriers and redefining what retirement is or is not in the 21st Century.
