Breaking Boundaries – The New Nørrebro Station Area was award-

ed first prize at the Architecture and Design School Exhibition in the

academic year 2011/2012.

Taking its departure in a mobility discussion this project challenges

the common perception of hierarchies within our urban spaces

by utilizing a new metro station to create a unique city landscape

that connects activities within the area around Nørrebro Station in

central Copenhagen. Through a degrading system of ramps and

stairs the urban surface provides a frame for exchange between

the global an regional networks within the city.

1. The station area can currently be denoted as an enclosed pocket detached from the surrounding neighborhood. Hence the overall goal is to dissolve current boundaries and expand the awareness of the station area in a near and distant context.

2. The Copenhagen metro is an enclosed under-ground network separated from the urban surface. A large urban wasteland currently surrounds the Nørrebro Station which gives a unique opportunity to created a terraced open landscape that afford a physical connection between the metro and the city.

5. In order to secure a human scale within the space the area is compartmentalized into a number of smaller pockets separated both through the differ-ence in heights but also by clusters of small buildings programmed with shops and other extrovert activi-ties.

3. A clever system of stairs and ramps accom-modates a variety of movement patterns. People in transit can easily shift between bike, bus, train and metro. Observations at the site form the basis of the flow line diagram.

4. The stair system is designed not only to accom-modate people in transit but likewise to offer space for recreational purposes. The diagram outlines the large terraces within the landscape which can frame a variety of activities.

BREAKING BOUNDARIES

Nørrebro is one of the inner neighborhoods in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. It is known for its multi-ethnic demography as well as anti-social behavior. The future metro station at Nørrebro will put emphasis on the impor-tance of the Nørrebro Station area which is al-ready a connection point for the regional train and bus system. The station area marks an infrastructural node but is simultaneously the heart of a characteristic neighborhood. This project strives to create an urban landscape that accommodates the varying types of ac-tors within in the area, undertaking an idiom capturing the essence of Nørrebro.

PORTFOLIOTLM

Over recent years cultural planning has become a vital point on the

agenda of most Danish cities. In Aalborg former industrial areas

are being transformed into a new cultural experience zone where

the growth layer and student community is planned to become

primary actors.

‘Pakhus4 Uncontained’ exemplifies how architecture can play a

pronounced role under the auspices of cultural planning: An old

warehouse is transformed into a cultural centre for unestablished

operators while containers become stages that exposes the actors

in the city space.

Today the warehouse is characterized by a symmetric design, with

uniform generic facades and visible beams and columns as the

bearing structure. While this prominent design feature is articulated

in the transformation, a significant irregular cut through the build-

ing creates an open glass foyer inviting people in. A new flexible

interior layout is created through a number of independent boxes.

The containers are designed as different modules that in unison

can form a number of different compositions suited for various

events. By exposing the growth layer in the urban sphere, new in-

teresting environments will help connect the new experience zone

with the old city core.

In the project ‘Villa Jørgensen’ cre-

ative concept development and ex-

plorations are put aside.

Taking its point of departure in a de-

sign proposal for a 3 storey family

home the project is focused on the

production of technical drawings -

turning sketches into a realistic proj-

ect.

This involves consideration of tech-

nical details, proportions and ma-

terials. The aesthetic solutions are

further processed and supported

by the calculation and dimension-

ing of bearing elements as well as

an assessment of the overall energy

consumption, hence securing an in-

tegrated design solution.

Nordhavn Dwellings is one of the project which I was deeply in-

volved in during my internship at Danielsen Architecture in the fall

of 2013. I took part in the design phase doing concept develop-

ment as well as creating a large amount of graphic material.

In addition I took part in meetings and workshops with collabora-

tors presenting and developing the project.

‘Nordhavn Dwelling’ concerns the design of a housing block at

Nordhavn and is a collaboration between Danielsen Architecture

and NCC. The development is located on the south-eastern tip of

the upcoming Aarhusgade district of Nordhavn in Copenhagen.

With a total area of 12.100 m2 the block will predominantly contain

domestic housing, while parts of the ground floor is layed out for

shops or audience-oriented businesses. The building will be one

of the first in the area, which is contained in the comprehensive

Nordhavn masterplan, created by COBE, Polyform, SLETH and

Rambøll. The district plan for the area is extremely detailed and

sets very specific requirements for all exterior design and the build-

ings relationship with the context.

‘Floe Pavilion’ is a small scale project. Focusing on the process,

this project quickly moved from swift idiom concepts to the de-

velopment of a final product, processed on a 1:20 level of detail.

The final pavilion is a hybrid structure designed to lie at the harbor

front of Aalborg, Denmark. With the overall goal to decompose the

barriers between private and public institutions along the riverfront

of the city, the Floe Pavilion is designed to function as an exchange

zone. With a double-sided program the pavilion hosts an indoor

workshop and exhibition space for the School of Architecture and

Design concurrently with providing an outdoor public space at the

riverbank.

URBAN TRANSFORMATION4th semester Building the city 3 month Group project

LAYERS

Infrastructure: A shared space is stretched in a dynamic patter, defining the layout of the area. Small one-way streets are laid out in a regular grid creating a well-defined infrastructural system.

Green areas: To create a lively and inviting environ-ment, selected areas are planned as green spots in between buildings. Indoor public functions are extended out into the urban space through the green public areas..

Buildings: The buildings are developed to compli-ment the program of the area with blocks for shops and apartments to the north, bigger volumes for sports to the south, and the Youth Hub in the center.

In Denmark local hospitals are closing to be replaced by regional

‘Super Hospitals’. In Aalborg an old central hospital spreads over

47.000 m2 within the heart of the city. The transition within the

medical system suddenly creates an opportunity to rethink an im-

portant space in the city.

This project revolves around a dialogue between urban planning

and architectural design. With the aim to turn the current waste-

land of parking facilities and private buildings into a vibrant ‘24 hour

city’ the planning strives to attract a diverse demographic compo-

sition of people, obtained through a mixed program and high build-

ing density. A combined dorm and hostel creates the heart of the

area and a main road planned as a shared space defines the main

vein in the neighborhood. The shared space concept integrates

motor vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians in an flat hierarchy, con-

centrating activity and fortifying the impression of an intimate urban

area inviting people to stay.

The diversity of the city is enriched; the skyline of Moursundveitas is expanded through densification of the existing context.

The connection between city, alley and rooftop is reinterpreted through a new vertical relation. The alley becomes the link connecting the layers of the city.

The alley is covered with a reflecting material that con-tribute to an increased amount of daylight but simultane-ously articulates the alley as a part of the city.

The new rooftop village is arranged around joint areas. The practical functions are combined with recreational areas where the residents can gather.

Simple dwellings for 1-2 persons surround the joint facilities. The houses are subdivided into smaller communities and create interesting spatial and social compositions.

The areas in-between the build volumes are covered with wood. These openings - hosting outdoor areas for stay and mixed activities - face the surrounding city creating a new hieracy and life in the public sphere.

_45465 Moursundveita Rooftop Village answers the Norwegian

student competition ‘120 Hours’ in January 2012. With only four

days to develop the project, fast concepts and a strong idiom has

been a focal point.

The competition invited students to present new ways of utilizing

unexplored areas of the city and therby create new typologies and

densities in the urban space.

Rooftop Village is a cluster of intimate dwellings that are added as

an extra layer on existing rooftops. Inspired by Norwegian villages

this project strives to create an intimate setting expressed through

the disposition of the plan, the use of materials as well as the idiom.

_45465 Moursundveita Rooftop Village is developed to fit a block in Trondheim, Norge.
