Compliance with Legislation and StandardsDid you know that it is a legal requirement for all medical devicesto comply with the Medical Devices Directive (MDD) 93/42 EECand carry the CE mark?

Regulatory requirements differ according to the risk attached tothe use of the product. The lower the risk, the easier it is to complywith the Directive. Single use instruments are relatively high riskand therefore classified as lla devices. They are therefore subjectto greater levels of control than reusables, which are Class ldevices, except those used on central nervous tissue. Class ldevices can be sold without any authorisation from anindependent third party – called a Notified Body!

Class lla devices such as Instrapac® require a Notified Body toassess the production of the device to the Directive and issue acertificate of conformance before a CE mark can be applied andthe product legally sold. Instrapac products are fully certified bythe British Standards Institution (BSI).

Robinson Healthcare also complies with the following standardsand has current certification as part of the CE marking process:

UK Production Facility Robinson Healthcare retains control over the production ofInstrapac® products by designing the products and then AQLinspecting raw materials, packing and sterilising in the UK atthe company’s large manufacturing facility in Worksop,Nottinghamshire. All products comply with the relevant BritishStandards for surgical instruments and are manufactured usingmedical grade stainless steel.

The Instrapac® podiatry range is packaged in high quality, easyto peel packs which feature indicators to verify that the contentsare sterile. All procedure packs are presented wrapped in a sterilefield for convenience.

Expanded Nail Cutter RangeIn addition to the popular curved blade nail cutter, with roller spring action, the Instrapac® range has been extended with the introductionof a number of new products.

Where procedures require the use of a straight blade, or for user preference, the standard size head range now includes a straight nailcutter with roller spring. In addition, a suite of cutters with smaller heads and shorter handles are now available. Only 13cm long, thesenew nail cutters feature 2 options, both of which have curved blades:

Cestra® SkintactCestra® Skintact is a high quality, sterile, perforated film absorbent dressing that is used as a low adherent wound contactlayer. The dressing is the same on both sides, which prevents it being used “wrong side down”. It consists of two layers ofperforated film with an inner absorbent layer. The perforations allow drainage of exudate to the absorbent layer where fluidis wicked laterally, extending the time before strike through occurs.
