Why Podcast?

• Allows students to learn with feeling

• Provides escape from “sacred learning box”

• Could provide the power of music, when music is inserted in the background of the podcast

Podcasting with a Mac

Page 4: Podcasting Presentation

Unless you have a server and can automatically link to the web server option, you will want to go to www.mac.com and establish a .mac account. You can start with a free 60 day trial.

Open GarageBand to record your podcast. You can also record to an iPod using the external microphone that can be attached, this recording would be loaded into iTune and dragged into GB.

Name the podcast

If you loaded a recording from an

iPod, click audio to drag file.

If not, click the red button and record using an external

microphone.

Next, select “Share” and “send Podcast to iWeb”

Page 8: Podcasting Presentation

Click the “Podcast link” to edit the content of your

“homepage”iWeb opens and shows the Title of the Podcast/s you have made.

Edit the content for your

podcast entry

Click iWeb and select publish to .mac

Podcasting with Audacity

• Audacity is a free-ware product that can be easily downloaded.

Google Audacity and click the

download link

Download the audacity and LAME MP3 encoder options

Open Audacity to record your podcast.

Click the red arrow to record

When you finish recording, you can edit if necessary. Then click

“file” and “export as MP3”

Follow the prompts to save your MP3 file. This file will save to the desktop.

Enter a title, author, and change genre to “other”

Uses of Podcasts• Our 8th grade English teacher used podcasting internally to

allow students to record and replay radio commercials using audacity.

• In 7th grade Social Studies, the students analyzed the chapter on the Great Depression and made “Fireside Podchats” to cover the content and teach each other. These were uploaded to a wiki.

• I podcast a 7th grade Spanish class to allow a student who was unable to attend school to keep up in the class.

• What uses can you think of?
