The initial findings of a bankable feasibility study (BFS) of the Garatau platinumproject, in South Africa’s Bushveld Complex, has upgraded the project’s resourceestimate by 300%.

Australian listed Nkwe Platinum on Wednesday said that the Garatau projectresource had now been upgraded to a measured resource of 14,2-million ouncesplatinum group metals (PGMs) and gold, and 9,1-million ounces of inferred resources.

Over 60% of the resources were also now classified within the measuredcategory.Nkwe reported that the BFS estimated an average production of between 240000 t/m and 400 000 t/m, with an estimated life-of-mine of 40-years.

Mine construction was expected to start in 2011, with ramp-up and steady stateproduction taking place by 2016.

Managing Director Maredi Mphahlele said that based on the positive BFS findings,Nkwe would fast track the finalisation of the joint-venture (JV) agreement withdiversified miner Xstrata, as well as the completion of the optimised BFS, which wasexpected in April, to enable an accelerated project development timetable saying“Management is very pleased with the results, in particular the very healthy operatingcashflows and returns. Perhaps the most encouraging element is the significant benefitsthat can be achieved by adopting a highly flexible approach to mine development.Through the development of an initial operation focussed solely on the Merensky Reefand with a phased development of the UG2 Reef, there is considerable opportunity tofurther enhance the positive project economics and greatly accelerate projectdevelopment.”

Nkwe holds a JV option agreement with Xstrata to jointly develop the Tubatse-Garatau project, with the bigger company having an option to fund the development oftwo mines and a concentrator, with a stated goal of producing one-million ounces ofPGMs a year.

The platinum developer said that a capital expenditure of between R6,5-billion andR8,3-billion would be needed to develop the project, but noted that these figures werethe subject of the current optimisation process, which could reduce the initial capitalestimates.

Nkwe Platinum’s main Tubatse and Garatau Projects consist of five contiguousfarms with a strike length of more than 30km. These Projects are located in anestablished mining district with well developed infrastructure. It borders AngloPlatinum’s Modikwa

Joint Venture to the east, Implat’s Marula mine to the north and Eastplat’s Spitzkop– Kennedy’s Vale project in the south.

Nkwe Platinum’s Tubatse and Garatau Projects have a surface footprint of morethan 10,500 hectares, underlain by both the Merensky Reef and UG2 chromitite seamfrom surface to a depth of 1,500m.

Nkwe has finalized a Feasibility Study on the Garatau Project Area in the north, with exploration continuing on both its Garatau and Tubatse Project Area in the south. The company’s view is to develop two mines with a combined annual production of morethan 1 Moz of PGM from a targeted mineralisation base in excess of 100 Moz 3PGM+Au.The potential size and quality of Nkwe’s PGM assets make it possible for Nkwe tobecome an independent PGM producer and strategically utilize independent or jointventured smelting and refining capabilities.

Sepedi orSesotho saLebowa -language issuesurfaces againThe Joint Committee on ConstitutionalReview this week held three public hearings inLimpopo this week to, amongst others; inquire intowhether Sepedi is incorrectly designated as anofficial language in the South African Constitution.

The Committee received written and oraltestimonials on the debate

that was sparked by submission received by theCommittee from various

stakeholders, including the Commission for thepromotion and protection

of the rights of culture, who contend that Sepediwas incorrectly

designated as an official language in theConstitution.

These stakeholders argue that the correctdesignation of the language in question should beSesotho sa Lebowa. The Committee was in Limpopoto also seek to establish whether:

1. is Sepedi incorrectly designated as anofficial language?

2. is Sesotho sa Lebowa the correctdesignation?

Those in favour of Sesotho sa Lebowa((Northern Sotho) say in the interim constitution in1993 the language was correctly referred to asSesotho sa Leboa. But in the final constitution of1996 it was changed to Sepedi. They say that manySesotho sa Leboa speakers are offended when youcall them Sepedi speakers as they do not speakSepedi. The confusion runs deeper as Governmentinstitutions are now also confused, PanSALBpromotes Sesotho sa Leboa, while NationalLanguage Services talks of Sepedi.

They say the truth of the matter is thatSesotho sa Leboa is the correct mother tonguename for the language that the Constitutionwanted to empower. Sepedi is merely a dialect ofSesotho sa Leboa and as a language does notrepresent the whole of the Northern Sothospeaking populace who speak about 30 dialects ofthe langauage. If you were using English namesthe language would be Northern Sotho and the

This well-known brand started off in Birmingham in the UK.Cadbury’s was a business founded on strong values and a sense of socialresponsibility. As Quakers, the Cadbury family believed tea, coffee and cocoabeverages could serve as an alternative to alcohol, seen to be the cause ofpoverty and deprivation amongst the working classes. The family was alsoactive in campaigns for ‘justice, equality and social reform, putting an end topoverty and deprivation’. They were involved in the anti-slavery movement, calls for better housing and sanitation and dinner city smoke abatement.Across the UK society, Quakers were excluded from universities (which wereclosely tied to the established church) and therefore entry into the professions. They were also unwilling to enter the military due to their pacifist principles, sothey turned their energies elsewhere.John Cadbury opened his shop in 1824. He sold tea, coffee, hops, mustard anda new sideline, cocoa and drinking chocolate, which he prepared himself usinga mortar and pestle.By 1942 he is selling 16 sorts of drinking chocolate and eleven varieties ofcocoas. His brother Benjamin joins the firm in 1847 when Cadbury Brothersbecomes the family business. In the 1860’s the Cadbury brothers introduce a new process to produce a muchmore palatable Cocoa Essence - the forerunner of the cocoa we know today. The plentiful supply of cocoa butter remaining after the cocoa is pressed makesit possible to produce a wider variety of eating chocolate.Having outgrown their original factory, the brothers move to the Bournvillefactory in 1879.The first milk chocolate was made in 1899. Cadbury’s growth accelerates withthe establishment of manufacturing operations in Australia, New Zealand,Ireland and South Africa. This growth happens between 1900 and 1939.During the war years, cocoa and chocolate products are regarded as essentialfoods for the forces and civilian population. Rationing continued until 1952. In1949 Cadbury opened a factory in India. In the 1960’s Cadbury introduced the latest technologies and installed plantsfor milk processing and cocoa bean processing in the UK.The Cadbury Company diversified into a variety of areas including candy, colddrinks and chewing gum. The company developed and grew, but still remainsone of the favourite chocolate candy manufacturers in the world. In early 2010 the Company was in the process of being bought by Kraft FoodsInc.

Make your reservations now!

To leave the president’sPresident Jacob Zuma’s private life cameunder the spotlight again this week afterthe Sunday Times reported about his 20thchild with Sonono Khoza. The baby girlwas born October last year.Various politicians took a stand sayingthat Zuma is setting a bad example interms of the government’s policy regardingHIV/Aids. Claims were made that he hadunprotected sex with a partner that wasnot his wife or fiancée and that thisexample was not in correlation with themessage he tried to convey after the rapetrail in 2006.Although widely criticized Zuma was alsosupported from various corners with theANC Youth League saying that the eldersshould be respected and that no judgmentor comment can be made on the issue. On Wednesday, a day after he returnedfrom Ethiopia from an African Unionsummit, the president released astatement to the media in which he admitsthat the baby is his daughter. He alsomade it clear that he will not underminethe government’s HIV campaign. He also confirmed that he has arelationship with Ms Khoza, but remainedtight-lipped about speculations that heintends to marry her. He added that thematter is one between him and Sonono andculturally between the Khoza and Zumafamilies. He has paid ‘damages’ orinhlawulo to the Khoza family for a childbeing born out of wedlock.Zuma criticized the media for exposing theidentity of the mother and child sayingthat they were subjected to harsh mediaexposure due to the position he holds. He also suggested that the Child Care Actand the Constitution were violatedthrough the media’s reporting on them. The statement did not soften the critics inthe political arena. Many oppositionparties were quick to react, remainingunmoved about their stance that Zuma infact did undermine government’s stance onHIV/Aids.Readers gave their opinions on thissensitive issue. Should this be purely aprivate matter, or is the line betweenpersonal live and government policyfading?

Mnr. Kevin van Rooyen sê: “Hy moet ‘ngoeie voorbeeld stel, maar dis sy lewe endit het nie iets met ander te doen nie.Hoekom tune hulle nie die koning vanSwaziland oor sy 24 vroue nie?”

Mr Langton Shamairai said: “As a leadereven your personal life is public.Personally I don’t think he did good. Hewill tarnish the image of the whole nation. He must lead by example”.

“It is okay. He must just care for thechild,” said Mr Donald Jujuju.

Mr Peter Ngwana said: “It is a privatematter. They must leave him alone”.

Me. Charmaine Pieterse sê: “Hy stel ‘nswak voorbeeld vir die jeug”.

“Leave them alone” was the commentfrom Ms Nhlanhla Tshehla.

Mr Jimmy Meracle said: “He must act as aleader even with his family”.

“Dis teen ons morele waardes. Dis ‘n slegte voorbeeld vir die Vigs-veldtog,” was Mnr.Leroy en me. Lisinda Kruger se antwoord. By hulle is Leané en Lize-Mari.

Zuma: it is somethingbetween me and MsSonono Khoza and

culturally between theKhoza and Zuma families.

Letters / Briewe“There cannot be a crisis next week. Myschedule is already full.” - Henry Kissinger

Poor service at clinicsI write this letter to complain about poor service delivery at the clinics in Praktiseer andBurgersfort.

Last week Sunday I went to Praktiseer Clinic at about 22:05 as my wife was inlabour. A female nurse and a male nurse attended to her. My wife could not walk and Iasked for a wheelchair. The female nurse told me that she must walk on her own. Themale nurse finally arranged for a wheelchair. They took her to the maternity ward andthey told me to undress her and said I must hurry up because they wanted to leave. Iwas struck with disbelief when the female nurse told me that after my wife gave birth Imust wash the bed since it is Sunday and there is no one who cleans.

I decided to take my wife to the nearest clinic in Burgersfort. When we arrived inBurgersfort two nurses refused to provide a wheelchair. One nurse told me she is alsopregnant and she cannot carry my wife. Only after an argument was a wheelchair thenprovided. They checked her and told me they will not help her give birth and I musttake her to hospital. I then travelled to Lydenburg hospital. On the road just when youclimb the mountain my wife’s water broke, showing the baby is about to be born. I spedup the car just to make sure the baby arrives safely. When we arrived at the hospitalthey gave her a wheelchair and took her straight to the maternity ward.

What happened to Bbatho Pele at these clinics? ,If you go around and ask patients who previously attended these clinics, they will

tell you that you will never see them in those clinics again! What must we do when we have an emergency?
