Guru Ramdaas Sahib Ji, in the 16th Century. In 1604, Guru Ar-

text of Sikhism, the Guru Granth Sahib,is always present in-

side the Gurdwara. Its construction was mainly intended to

A Visit To “WAGHA BORDER”

Wagah is the only road border crossing between Pakistan and

India, and lies on the Grand Trunk Road between the cities

of Amritsar, Punjab, India, and Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.

The border is located 22 kilometres (14 mi) from Lahore and

32 kilometres (20 mi) from Amritsar. A ceremony takes place

every evening before sunset at the Wagah border.

Ceremony starts with a blustering parade by the soldiers

from both the sides, and ends up in the perfectly coordinat-

ed lowering of the two nations' flags. It is called the beating

retreat border ceremony on the international level.

One Jawan stands at attention on each side of the gate. As

the sun sets, the iron gates at the border are opened and

the two flags are lowered simultaneously

A Visit To “JALLIANWALA BAGH” Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden in Amritsar and houses

a memorial of national importance, established in 1951 to

commemorate the massacre by British occupying forces

of peaceful celebrators on the occasion of the Punjabi

Raj sources identified 379 fatalities and estimated about

many times higher than the official figure of 379. The 6.5-

acre (26,000 m2) garden site of the massacre is located in

the vicinity of Golden Temple complex, the holiest shrine

of Sikhism. The memorial is managed by the Jallianwala
