PITTSBURGH, Pa. – With a 17-10 win over the New England Patriots at Heinz Field, the Steelers have secured a non-losing record season for the 15th consecutive year, dating back to 2004, the second-longest active streak in the NFL.
Pittsburgh scored on its opening drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass from QB Ben Roethlisberger to TE Vance McDonald, but the Patriots retaliated on the following possession with a 63-yard touchdown to tie the game.
Early in the second quarter, Roethlisberger found the end zone again, this time with a 17-yard touchdown pass to WR Antonio Brown, giving Pittsburgh a 14-7 lead. Meanwhile, the Steelers’ defense forced New England’s offense to punt on five straight possessions.
With 0:17 remaining in the third quarter, the Patriots added three points with a 33-yard field goal from K Steven Gostkowski. After a turnover by the Steelers, New England drove down to the Pittsburgh 15-yard line, but Steelers CB Joe Haden intercepted Patriots QB Tom Brady in the red zone, protecting the Steelers’ four-point lead.
Just before the two-minute warning, Pittsburgh K Chris Boswell nailed a 48-yard field goal increasing the score to 17-10.
Trailing by a touchdown with 2:30 remaining, the Patriots orchestrated one final drive down to the Steelers 21-yard line, but were stopped by the Steelers defense on fourth down, securing the win for Pittsburgh.
