Pitch: The Daedalus

ProjectDench Productions: FreddieMediaStudies, MarcusMedia, WojMedia.

A bit about us: We are a AS Media group composed of three people: Woj, Marcus and

Freddie. We are working on a thriller film titled, ‘The Daedalus Project’. The name ‘Dench’ stems from Lethal Bizzle the rapper, who adapted the

word as a positive thing. Which we took on as part of our group. We came up with the idea for ‘The Daedalus Project’ after being inspired

by various films such as American Gangster, and films such as shifty. Now let us tell you a bit more about our opening…

Page 3: Pitch

The story centres around Zach Moore, a rather middle class young man who goes through a difficult time in life, forcing him into the drug trade.

As he becomes deeply involved in the drug world, he begins to realise that the glamour of making fast money is not all that it seems to be.

We follow Zach’s story into self destruction, as he faces issues previously associated with the lower class citizens.

The film sets out to prove that crime has no prejudice.

We witness Zach getting beaten, shot at, and threatened… but will his life turn around?

Financial Prospect We plan to use a lot of cheap marketing such as the internet and posters in order to

advertise our film.

A Facebook Page and a Twitter account have been set up in order to get our film out to a younger audience. By heavily focusing on the idea of synergy we could release a track from our film to help boost sales. Many people would listen to the track and possibly go to watch the film. Furthermore the track could lead the audience into watching the film.

We plan to begin distributing the film to a wider audience by displaying it at various high profile film festivals such as festivals in Edinburgh and Toronto.

We also plan to use our marketing campaign in order to boost DVD and Blu-Ray sales, which would increase our revenue.

Genre & Relations The genre of ‘The Daedalus Project’ is a

thriller with a very strong crime orientated story.

Some examples that we can relate to would be films such as these as in ‘GBH’ and ‘Parker’ present the story of good guy gone bad and his journey back to the right path.

‘Offender’ and ‘Shifty’ focus heavily on the everyday life's of young criminals and the descent into crime.

Due to the success of films such as ‘Kidulthood’, we believe that there is a large market for films of this type.

Unique Selling Point (USP)

We believe our Unique Selling Point is the fact that we have tried to break away from the stereotypes surrounding the crime in the film industry. It is often stereotyped that crime is for the lower- class, usually centred around people of an Afro Caribbean descent. ‘The Daedalus Project’, centres around a middle-class white teenager who becomes part of the criminal/drug world; challenging stereotypes can often be considered controversial within the film industry, however we think our project can successfully make revenue because our plot is our of the ordinary, which is often considered interesting.

LocationsZach’s temporary home/residence. Filmed at Marcus Steedman's house. The location costs no money to rent therefore as a production company save a large sum of money.

The outside of Zach’s home/residence. Filmed at the Estate of Marcus Steedman.

CrewWojtek Wiatrowski: Focuses mainly on the camera work and directing of the scenes.

Marcus Steedman: Editing and organisation of the film has been taken on by Marcus as he knows most about the editing process.

Freddie Russell: Freddie has the role of editing along with Marcus and organising everything to do with our production; a role similar to that of a manager.

SOUNDIn the film, we plan to use music relating to the thriller genre, in order to build suspense and intrigue within our audience. Initially we planned to use diegetic sounds such as footsteps and creeks from around the location. However, the issue with that would be the lack of suspense that would be created, whereas the use of music would allow us to alter the tempo of the opening.

The wide range of music that we can use will give us options regarding the pace and theme of the film. For example, if we were to use contrapuntal music; the perception of ‘The Deadalus Project’. The wide variety of options is something we are looking for in terms of production, hence why we are planning to go down the music route.

Props, Costume & Mise En SceneThe amount of props that we use for the production is minimalistic hence why a large budget is not necessary. The Mise En Scene involves a messy house and an estate, both of which are within our rage.

Target AudienceWe are aiming our film at the 16-25 years old audience. They mainly consist of the urban youth and the ‘hipster’ community. We believe that this is the right audience for our film as the theme of teenage crime and danger is very popular amongst the youth at this current moment, however it is not considered ‘mainstream’ which is very appealing to the hipster community. In addition most teenage crime thrillers are based around the African- Caribbean community, whereas our challenges that.
