Annual Catholic Appeal Thank you to all the generous individuals who have made a pledge to the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. As of July 23rd, 2018, we have 244 donors who have pledged $60,835 towards our parish goal of $59,118. Over $42,000 have been collected thus far. Pledge envelopes are still available at the church doors and in the rectory. No pledge is too small and everyone can help our campaign succeed.

FROM THE OGLE OFFICE Dear Friends, Last weekend I shared with you information about the unique pastoral outreach called the Quinto Encuentro, or Fifth En-counter, of Hispanic Ministry in the U.S. The Encuentro is just one of many pastoral efforts that take place in our church in order to promote the faith and evangelize our world. Other pastoral initiatives we’ve carried out in recent years have included the diocesan “Year of Vocations”, as well as the Scripture sharing and Levantate groups in or parish, not to mention the Holy Year of Mercy in 2016 we celebrated in conjunction with our parish 175th Anniversary (the “Dosquicentennial”). Another of those pastoral efforts was the 2015 Generations of Faith Capital Campaign. Even though the campaign was financial, it was really much more. Your pledges help underwrite the costs of many important pastoral efforts both of the diocese and of the parish. The Diocesan share is to support the retired priests’ fund of the diocese (three of whom reside in our rectory), and the parish share is to complete the restoration of our upper church (99% complete), replace the front steps of the church (100% complete) and to replace the ramp on the Crescent Street side of the church. This final work will be undertaken this fall. As of July 13, approximately 3 ½ years into the payment period of 5 years, our GOF figures stand like this: 391 parishioners have completed payments totaling $690, 412.59. That amount constitutes 61.1% of our pledged amount of $1,129,328.59. Many parishioners are on track to complete their pledge within the five-year period, which some others have fallen behind. We are grateful to have fulfilled our diocesan share for the campaign (which was $605,000), and I hope that we will redeem much more of the pledged amount so as to offset the expenses we have incurred with our capital projects. I encourage those who have pledged to complete their commitment. I am at your disposal to discuss any questions you may have about your pledges. Of course, a memorial plaque will be erected in the church with the names of those whose pledge has been completed. Next weekend I will write about some of the necessary repairs that are ongoing this summer so you have a better sense of how our parish staff and lay advisors are managing your stewardship contributions for the sake of Christ’s mission in our parish.
