DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

Most people don’t realize how difficult it is to become a successful filmmaker. I’ve moved around more times than I care to remember and sacrificed more than I’d like to admit all in this pursuit. For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to make movies, and I’ve spent most of my adult life pursuing just that. After college, I moved to LA like most people to try and break into the industry. LA led me to Colorado, where a friend asked me to be his partner at a production company in Denver. The company did well, but after a while I felt my artistic passions were not being met. While the logical (and perhaps easier) route would have been to return to LA, I decided instead to try my luck in New York, where most of my favorite films were being produced. I often joke and tell people that in the time I’ve spent trying to become a successful filmmaker I could have become a doctor and a lawyer, and would probably have become successful as at least one of them by now.

My current screenplay Painless is about a guy who can’t feel physical pain. It’s also a modern-day fable about loneliness and alienation, and the sacrifices one makes for what they believe in, feelings I think we’ve all experienced at some point in our lives. The screenplay is based on a real medical condition and incorporates real cutting-edge science. From the day I first hatched the idea my goal has always been to make the science in the film as absolutely believable as possible, and I have been working closely with a team of science advisors to ensure exactly that. I’ve spent several years working on this script, making sure each line of dialogue and page is as good as it can be. It is ambitious in scope but also written in a way that can be filmed on a minimal budget. I believe it is my finest work. My dream may have taken longer than I’d hoped, but I’ve never for a second given up on it or stopped pursuing it with all my energy, and I can’t wait to see this film on the big screen. I hope you’ll join me on the journey.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Page 6: Painless

Henry Long was born with a curse - he is unable to feel physical pain. Life for him is a daily struggle, never knowing when he might become seriously injured without realizing it, or worse, die from some internal injury he never even knew existed. He lives in a constant state of fear and is completely alienated from those around him who cannot relate to his daily struggles.

Henry is obsessed with the idea of pain. He has dedicated his life to becoming a scientist and learning everything he can about it in the hopes that he can one day find what he wants most in life - a cure. His obsession leads him down a dark path where he makes a deal with a scientist offering to help but who harbors his own secret agenda. Ultimately, Henry must decide if his need for normalcy is worth paying the ultimate price - his life - before it’s too late.

Based on the actual medical condition C.I.P.A. (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain with Anhidrosis), Painless was painstakingly written over a number of years with a team of science advisors methodically researching the latest cutting edge developments surrounding the disease to ensure absolute scientific accuracy.

Seeking Out a Distributor Our number one goal is to have a distributor license and release the film. We will seek out the help of sales agents to broker deals during and after our festival run. We will attend all the major markets (Cannes, MIPCOM, AFM, etc.) until we can find the right distributor to release our film. Digital Distribution, All Other Rights Sold

If we do find the right distributor, we have the option to release the film through online rentals and digital downloads while retaining all rights to the film. We will be using the post-festival excitement along with strategic PR and social media efforts to propel this release while at the same time sell off all other existing rights.
