The Weekly Bulletin Article from Deacon Bob Wingenbach "My kingdom does not belong to this world.” When I read these words from today’s gospel, it reminded me that our true home is in heaven. Having just returned from a pilgrimage to Portugal and Spain 6 weeks ago, I realized that we are all on a pilgrimage on this earth…a pilgrimage to get to our true home in heaven. So we might ask ourselves, “what is the itinerary on this pilgrimage and how do we get there?” Someone already posed that question to our Lord and that was St. Thomas. In John 14:5 Thomas said, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus Christ is the way to come to His kingdom in heaven. On this feast of Christ the King, we know that He is the king of our true home in heaven. God humbled himself to take on flesh and become one of us in order to show us “the way” to live our lives in union with God the Father. When we read the scriptures as a road map on how to travel this pilgrimage here on earth, we will read the many ways He taught us to live in right union with God the Father. The Sermon on the Mount or the beatitudes are a blueprint on how to live our lives. The parables, and how our Lord suffered and gave all for us is the ultimate sign of how to give of ourselves in service of others. Let us take a fresh look at the gospels and read them as a road map on how to journey well to get to our true home in heaven.
