OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE November 20, 2016 Dear Friends, This weekend is the feast of Christ the King, the last Sunday of the Church year! This also concludes the Year of Mercy, a truly extraordinary time of grace. Please be attentive that we are back to the normal confession schedule: Monday and Friday at 4:30pm and Saturday at 3:30pm. With the NEW YEAR starting next week, we will have here two new liturgical initiatives. A SPANISH MASS and now a WEEKLY MASS (as opposed to monthly) at our Mission in Melrose. The Mass in Melrose, starting Nov. 27th will be every Sunday at 2pm. THE SPANISH MASS. I cannot tell you how excited so many people are (including perhaps first among them myself!) to finally be having a Spanish Mass here at Sacred Heart. We have desperately needed this and by having a Spanish Mass we will be much better to welcome and serve the whole local community. This is a huge thing also for the ongoing expansion and growth of our parish. We have our Spanish Choir all ready to go and the atmosphere will be full of joy. We are looking into getting a Spanish-speaking youth group going and other things and ministries too. The Spanish Mass will be every Saturday evening starting November 26th at 5:30PM. This is obviously the Vigil Mass which fulfills one's Sunday Obligation. It is a very important service for the whole community, too, as there is no Spanish Mass offered Saturday in this entire area. THE TRADITIONAL MASS. Also, starting this first Sunday of Advent, we will be having Mass every Sunday at our Mission (St. Catherine's) in Melrose at 2pm. There, we will be celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass. For those who love the solemn, sacred, beautiful, ancient Mass of the Church it will now be available. People are TREMENDOUSLY EXCITED about this and are telling me that they are coming all the way from Lubbock, Amarillo, and Albuquerque(!), etc., to be able to attend the traditional Mass. We will have most Sundays the Missa Cantata, that is the Sung Mass. If you have never been to the Traditional Mass, it is worth experiencing! Please join us Sundays at 2pm, starting Nov. 27th. THE 8:30 AM SUNDAY MASS. Will continue to be sort of a "High Mass" with incense and the solemn beautiful music, etc., but will use less Latin, since the Latin Mass will be available in Melrose for those who are drawn to this. We might still have some of the parts of the Mass in Latin (e.g. the Sanctus, and the Agnus Dei) but in general the 8:30AM Mass will be ENTIRELY IN ENGLISH. THE 10:30 AM SUNDAY MASS. Will also continue just as it is, with its wonderful and more contemporary music but also of course, ENTIRELY IN ENGLISH. Now, I must say, that is a pretty incredible lineup!!! It's a lineup as good as the one which led the Cubs to win the World Series! Again, a key idea is to give different people with different sensibilities different options how they want to worship God at Holy Mass. If you are Spanish speaking and you love joyful, festive Spanish music, the 5:30PM Saturday Mass is for you! If you love a more solemn Mass in English, the 8:30AM Mass is for you! If you love a more contemporary Mass in English, the 10:30AM is for you! If you love the ancient, traditional Mass of the Roman Catholic Church, then the 2pm Mass in Melrose is for you! To welcome everyone and to have something for everyone. This is what the Church is all about; that's why she is called Catholic meaning UNIVERSAL. More information on all this later in the next couple weeks, but if you have any questions, concerns, or further ideas, of course I am happy to visit with you about anything! In the meantime, God bless you and your family and our country too. Have a great week! +Fr Simon THANKSGIVING MASS SCHEDULE 8:30am What better way could you give thanks to God for all the blessings in your life

Dear Friends,

This weekend is the feast of Christ the King, the last Sunday of the Church year!
