OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE

We often come to life expecting all of the pieces of the puzzle to

nicely fit together. We want and expect harmony, order, and fair-

ness, the achievement of rewards for good behavior, good health,

and happiness. We can more easily accept death when it comes nat-

urally after a good long life, but have a real difficulty comprehend-

ing the meaning of it all when it is cut short. Willing to put in a

good measure of effort, we desire positive results. When things go

wrong and life gets hurtful, unjust, and downright ugly, we become

unsettled and can quickly fall into despair. This is especially true if

we are people of faith who believe in a God who sees things on our

terms and works in favor of our life agenda. What happens to our

faith when we find ourselves sitting in a mess?

Does it help to know that God understands and that hardship, fail-

ure, disappointment, injustice, confusion, and all of life’s ugliness

do not make faith irrelevant or irrational? God is wonderfully and

surprising creative! He turns the tables on not only our under-

standing of life, but of what it means to be a king. God sends us a

King who is not exempt from life’s ills but embraces them. The

King that God gives to us knows what it means to be poor, suffer

insults, be ridiculed, face rejection, endure suffering, be betrayed,

and face a most unjust and horrific death. This is our King. Jesus is

not a king of prestige or grandeur but a king who brings light to

darkness, hope to despair, sinners to mercy, and new life out of

death. Christ dances before us pleading with us to hold on, cling to

love, avoid being negative, stop feeling cheated, and be strong in faith! There may be hardship and disap-

pointment now but there are more surprises to come.

Once we understand this truth, we will also understand that we are on a most incredible and awesome uni-

versal journey to Christ and becoming one in Christ. We all carry within us the image of God, the image of

our suffering king. The One who lives in us also lives in all of our brothers and sisters. Failing to see this uni-

versal Divine Presence in all is one of the greatest mistakes we can make, for we also fail to see God, our

King, as well. There are many things that can bring hardship to life. If we keep our head about us and do not

lose hope, we can persevere and strive for the greatest degree of justice possible. Even though there are ample

things that can challenge our faith, we also know that our deepest joy comes from union with God and our

brothers and sisters. One day, the fullness of that joy will be ours to have when we are all eternally one with

Christ our King forever.

Whether we accept it now or hope that we one day do, Christ is King of the Universe. Christ is the Alpha and

the Omega, the Beginning and the End. Every human being, even those who scorned and rejected him and

failed to see him in the least of our brothers and sisters will look upon him. Only those who understand truth

will understand that we are on this awesome universal journey to Christ. It is a journey of surprises but also

a journey of enlightenment when we will one day see and experience with the deepest joy our being in Christ.

We will be restless until we are all one day together united in Christ our King.

The Giving Tree will be located in the

Church vestibule on Thanksgiving

weekend. It will have tags for the needy

children registered in the Faith For-

mation program, and for other needy

children. We ask that you purchase gift

cards for the children.

Please select a tag, purchase a gift card, bring it in an

envelope with the tag visible on the outside of the en-

velope and place it in a box under the tree. Gift cards

make shopping easier for you and will allow the chil-

dren and parents to choose what is best for them.

We invite you

to celebrate Mass

on Thanksgiving

Thursday

November 25

at 9:00 AM

Please bring your non-perishable food items

directly to your pew and place them on the

altar at time of the offering.

A Thanksgiving prayer in the time of Covid

God Almighty, this has been a terrible year.

So much death. So much illness. So much misery, all

around the world, for every human being. I can hardly be-

lieve it. And I certainly don’t understand it.

It breaks my heart to think of how many people have lost

family members, spent hours worried about sick friends in

the hospital, not been able to attend funerals, been laid off

from their jobs, seen their businesses closed and agonized

over whether to send their children to school or not. Some-

times the only prayer I can say is the prayer of the psalm-

ist: “How long, O Lord?”

And now it’s Thanksgiving, when I’m supposed to be

thankful. How, O Lord?

Maybe the only prayer I can utter this Thanksgiving is:

Teach me to be grateful.

Teach me to be grateful for what I still have. Help me to

see where you are blessing me, even in the midst of this

pandemic. Give me a new pair of eyes, so I can more clear-

ly see your grace:

Let me see the generosity of health care workers on the

front lines as a sign of your love.

Let me see the care that I have for my family as a sign of

your compassion within me.

Let me see my sadness over the virus as a sign of your sor-

row for those who suffer.

Jesus entered a world of illness, suffering and death, so he

understands what we are going through—not only because

he is divine and knows all things, but because he is human

and experienced all things.

Help me to give other people something to be thankful for:

By being generous to them when I am sad.

By being patient with them when I am tired.

By encouraging them when I am feeling low.

Most of all, draw me closer to your Son. During his time on

earth, Jesus saw people who were hungry, visited people

who were sick and wept over the death of his friend Laza-

rus. He entered a world of illness, suffering and death, so

he understands what we are going through—not only be-

cause he is divine and knows all things, but because he is

human and experienced all things

So on Thanksgiving this year, teach me to be thankful,

Almighty God.

And one more thing, God:

Hurry up with those vaccines.

Please.

Amen.

Spiritual Adoption

Month 8 - Developing Baby. “ I like to listen to my Mommy’s

voice!”

Now your spiritually adopted baby is finished developing and

is concentrating on gaining weight: she may be making her

mother uncomfortable with her size. She will need a layer of

fat to help her stay warm after she leaves the perfect tempera-

ture inside her mothers womb. For some weeks now she has

recognized her mother’s voice. In a short time baby will be

born. Your babies mother appreciated the prayers you have

said for her and her baby throughout the pregnancy. It has

not been easy, but your prayers have given her the grace she

needed to bring her baby to term.

1 Samuel 1:27-28- I prayed for this child, and the Lord grant-

ed my request. Now I’ll in turn give him to the Lord: as long as

he lives, he shall be dedicated to the Lord.
