Lake OkeechobeeFishing Report
CAPTAIN MIKE SHELLENwww.OkeechobeeBassFishing.com

Brought to you by
Boat traffic around the north end of the lake is steady. The low water does not seem to have affected the zeal people
have for being on the water, although it has affected where the boaters can go. The good news is that the lake is rising, coming up very slowly. Let’s all hope that this positive trend continues throughout the summer. A slow rise in the lake is actually much preferred to a rap-id inundation of water that brings less desir-able side effects with it.
Bass fishing is still showing great results dai-ly. Anglers from all over the world would be thrilled to be able to catch the numbers and size of the bass we are catching out of Lake Okeechobee. Artificial baits are producing 50 to 75 fish days for those anglers that get on the water and are not afraid to move until they get on a large school of bass. Top wa-ter baits, flukes, senko’s, crank baits and, of course, plastic worms are all accounting for many bites per day. Being a fishing guide I see a lot of new baits that “can’t miss” and usu-ally they disappoint everyone who buys one. Recently, though I have been seeing Copper’s baits show up in articles and blogs online, with positive things being said about them. I had not seen them in person so I remained skeptical about their performance. My friends at Okeechobee Fishing Headquarters have
started handling Copper’s baits and I am im-pressed with the baits in every way. The best, most realistic paint jobs you will ever see, and they come in a variety of sizes, styles and color.
Blue gill fishing is very steady with anglers catching good numbers of keeper-sized gills around the moon phases. Canal banks and drop-offs seem to produce regularly. Grass shrimp, crickets and red worms are all pro-ductive when fished at the right depth.
