B. Procedures for Ministerial Studies General Information for All Students and Eligibility
1. The Committee on Ministerial Studies (COMS) serves as a branch of the District Board of Ministry (DBOM).
2. The COMS serves only students who are properly enrolled in the course of ministerial study, the Nazarene Institute of Biblical Studies of the Southern Florida District and associated colleges, universities and Bible schools. Enrollment is open to all local, district, lay ministers and laymen (cf. Manual of the Church of the Nazarene or Sourcebook for Ministerial Development).
3. For relevant application forms (district license, recognition or renewal of license), contact the District Secretary. For enrollment in the Course of Study (COS) - a recognition letter from the student’s pastor, letter of testimony, and other documentation (i.e., official transcripts) should be sent to the secretary of the COMS upon enrollment.
4. Students must hold a local minister's license for a period of one full year or longer and have completed at least six courses from the COS before making initial application for District Minister’s License to the District Secretary.
5. For further information and guidance, contact the secretary of the COMS first, then one of the advisors of the COMS.
6. Students should be prepared to appear for an interview after completing six courses from the COS and their initial application for a District License before the COMS and the Committee on Credentials. They will not appear before the COMS again until completion of their studies or if they fail to complete two classes per year as governed by the Manual.
7. Once a student receives his/her first district license, he/she has 10 years to complete the COS.
C. Courses The COMS oversees the preparation of all elder and deacon candidates, and not all ministers will be
ordained without having completed their respective courses and track. This also means that unless the candidates have completed the recommended time required for ordination, just completing the course of study does not complete the requirements for ordination.
48
D. Mode
1. The recommended mode of preparation for full-time Christian service is by attending a Nazarene liberal arts college or university and, if possible, the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. Other modes are the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado (also available online); the Modular Program of the Church of the Nazarene, or the Nazarene Institute of Bible Studies of the Southern Florida District. The Modular Program is under the immediate supervision of the COMS of the Board of Ministry and COS.
2. The course requirement of the college/university students are listed in the Manual par. 424. The competency statements for ministerial education are also listed in the Manual par. 424 as well as the Sourcebook for Ministerial Development (SMD). All college/ university programs must meet these competency statements. The course listing for the Modular Program can be viewed online at Nazarenepastor.org. Please be advised that even though you attend these institutions, you must keep apprised that you meet the Manual requirements for ordination. You must take personal interest in your own education and keep careful watch on the courses you are taking to make sure they meet the requirements.
E. Regulations for the Ministerial Studies Program
1. Each candidate is instructed to purchase an SMD in order to become familiar with the details of the entire program.
2. Local ministers should now begin their study program with the modular program for ministerial candidates, if not enrolling in the Nazarene Bible College or a Nazarene College or University, or NIBS.
3. All candidates should acquire modular materials (along with any companion textbooks if required) early in the assembly year and be very diligent to have ALL WORK done by March 1, 2012, to receive credit in the current assembly year. Work filed after March 1, 2012, will be credited to the following assembly year 2013 (no exceptions will be granted).
4. Students taking NIBS classes should request that all grades for them should be posted by February 1, 2012. If the NIBS Registrar or COMS Secretary receives their grades after this date – credit will not be posted for year 2011-2012 year.
5. All examinations should be taken at least one week before this deadline to allow grades to be posted and presented to the NIBS Registrar and COMS Secretary.
6. Subjects will be passed by means of a closed book, written examinations in the presence of the assigned instructor, advisor or proctor. The exception to written examinations may be for those students whose first language is not English and for whom tests have not been translated into their native language.
7. Arrangements for an examination must be worked out by the student with his/her advisor, proctor, instructor or secretary of the COMS.
8. All materials and work must be submitted before grades will be posted, and credit given for a course. Failure to complete the assigned work will be seen as an incomplete or deduction in grade.
9. All district-licensed students must complete a minimum of two courses each year to be eligible for renewal of their district license. Failure to comply with this procedure will jeopardize renewal and/or result in the loss of their district license.
10. Students are urged to plan a definite schedule of study covering the new assembly year. Waiting until the last moment to complete work may result in the lack of mastery of any subject, late posting of grades, and or inability to receive materials, all of which may cause failure to comply with the above policy, and may result in the loss of one’s district license. Prayerfully consider your course.

IV. Daily Proceedings Ordination Service
Sunday Evening, May 15, 2011, 7 p.m.
The Southern Florida District began its 38th Annual District Assembly with the Ordination Service at the New Hope Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in Palm City, Florida.
Dr. David F. Nixon, District Superintendent, welcomed the assembly and introduced the presiding General Superintendent, Dr. Jesse C. Middendorf.
Dr. Middendorf brought greetings and acknowledged the good work in the District and called the 38th Southern Florida District Assembly to order.
Rev. Bill Buettner, District Secretary, read Partial Report No. 1 of the Ministerial Credentials Board, paragraph numbers numbers 3, 4, 6, and 15; a motion was made and the report was adopted. Also read was Partial Report No. 1 of the Committee on Ministerial Studies, paragraph number 7 (see reports) and the report was received.

Dr. Middendorf shared that by this action the lives of these ministers were changed. He also encouraged those that were already ordained to continue to say “yes” to their call.
An offering was taken to help with the expenses of the assembly. The congregation sang “Holiness Unto the Lord” led by Ryan Durham as the processional of the
Ordinands and their wives together with the retiring ministers and their wives entered the sanctuary. Dr. Middendorf gave the Statement of Purpose and Invocation, reading from the Manual, and then
led in prayer. Rev. James Spear read from Ephesians 4:1-7; 11-16. The congregation sang “Holiness Forevermore” led by Ryan Durham. Dr. David Nixon led the congregation in reading the Apostle’s Creed. Dr. Nixon gave special recognition to the following retiring ministers: Rev. William L. Chambers, Jr.;
Rev. John H. Denby; Rev. Charles Destina; and Rev. Byron O. (Ted) Stanton. Each one was called forward and given a plaque by Dr. Middendorf on behalf of the General Church. All four were seated on the platform in a place of honor and their wives were also acknowledged. The song “Thank You” was played with a beautiful pantomime to the words and music followed by a standing ovation from the congregation.
Newly licensed ministers Robert Bodem, Matthew Brown, Marvin Jomac Cabrera, Luis Cosme, Jorge M. Diaz, Pablo E. Espinosa, Margarita Garay, Mark C. Hamilton, Calixto Hernandez, Angelina Jasmin, Litermin Joseph, Douglas Kline, Naraine Sawmi (George) Moorgan, Rafael Munoz, Maria Rosario Najera, Angel Terrero Perez, Olga Perez, Alejandra Quinn, Luis Rodriguez, Frank Santiesteban, Allan Senat, Jose Urieta, and Terry Wheeler were brought to the platform, recognized, charged and prayed for by Dr. David F. Nixon, district superintendent.
Rev. Bill Buettner, District Secretary presented for ordination Leonardo Israel Canel, Israel A. Caraza, Aristeo C. Paxtor, Lazaro Perez, and Roxana Lanier Soto. Gloria F. Miller was presented for Recognition of Elders’ Orders. Dr. Middendorf received the ordinands and challenged the congregation and asked for their support. He also spoke and challenged the ordinands and their wives.
Rev. Durham led the ministers’ choir in “Amazing Grace – My Chains Are Gone”. A Manual reading of Paragraph 401 – 401.5 was given by Rev. Pascal Permis, Rev. Obed Santiesteban
and Dr. J. Mark Donnelly. A quartet from New Hope Fellowship Church brought special music “O Love that Will Not Let Me
Go”. Dr. Middendorf brought a message from 2 Timothy Chapter 4, challenging all to tell the story and
preach God’s word; reminding them of Paul’s admonitions. Dr. Middendorf explained the ordination ritual. The ordinands were called to the platform one by one
and asked to kneel with the ministers surrounding them and laying hands on them. All ordinands were charged and ordained by Dr. Middendorf and individually prayed for by their pastors or mentors. Gloria F. Miller received recognition of Elder’s Orders in the Church of the Nazarene.
Each ordinand was a given a statue of “The Calling” on behalf of Trevecca Nazarene University. Dr. Middendorf brought words “sending forth” the ordinands to their calling and introduced the new
elders to the congregation. A benediction was given followed by the recessional with the hymn “A Charge to Keep I Have”. A reception honoring the ordinands was held after the service.
FIRST DAY
Monday Morning, May 16, 2011, 9:00 A.M.
The morning session began with a welcome from Dr. David F. Nixon, district superintendent. The assembly delegates started the morning by gathering outside to watch the last historic launch of the space shuttle Endeavor.

Dr. Nixon announced that Dr. Jesse C. Middendorf would continue to serve as our presiding General Superintendent for the next two years. Ryan Durham, Music Minister of New Hope Fellowship led the congregation in a time of praise and worship.
Dr. Nixon introduced Dr. Jesse C. Middendorf, General Superintendent, who shared a morning devotional from Acts Chapter 1 on the incarnation of Christ and the presence and power of the Holy Spirit which 1) allows us to overcome our own stubborn self will; 2) gives us power to love our enemies, our brothers and sisters, and to love the unlovely; and, 3) is the only power by which we can win the world. The devotional ended with a time of prayer around the altar and pews as the pastors and their delegates spent time in prayer.
Dr. Middendorf introduced Rev. Bill Buettner, District Secretary, for the organization of the assembly. Rev. Buettner moved for the adoption of the following: statistical secretary: Vanessa Sackett;

District Advisory Board and Camp Director for the manner in which they have managed the finances during a very difficult financial period.
Dr. Middendorf explained how monies raised were distributed and what percentage is applied towards the World Evangelism Fund (WEF). Dr. Middendorf shared information regarding the cuts that have already taken place at the Global Ministry Center in an attempt to keep the missionaries on the field. However, income continues to decline and the general church may have to make difficult decisions resulting in bringing some missionaries home. The Global Ministry Center has reduced their staff from 308 employees to 140 with additional changes to come. Offers are being made for early retirements for some, and opportunities for others to resign and take a severance package. Dr. Middendorf is encouraging the churches at their district assemblies to raise money for WEF. He commended our District in reaching 94%.
Dr. Nixon announced that a church has just committed to paying the WEF balance of $30,000 to reach 100% district participation. Dr. Middendorf, Dr. Nixon and Dr. Moore “lapped” the assembly floor carrying flags, celebrating as the congregation joined in singing praise—“To God Be The Glory”.

Rev. Bill Buettner, district secretary, advised the assembly that two Annual Pastor’s Reports (APR) were not received this year. This is the first time for one church, the second year for the other church. Dr. Middendorf advised the District Secretary to send the pastor of the church (who missed one year of reporting) a certified letter advising him of the manual provisions. Dr. Middendorf asked for the name of the pastor from the church who has missed two years of reporting and asked for a motion to remove his name from the roll of elders with the provision that one more certified letter will be written to Pastor Galo Povedo and he will be given one week after receipt of the letter to submit the Annual Pastor’s Report. Dr. Middendorf explained the importance of pastors’ reports as a necessary process of accountability.
A motion was made; seconded; and carried. The report of District Finances Committee on Page 44 in the delegate packet was presented by Marlin
Moore (see report). Mr. Moore highlighted the following items in the report: Page 45, XI. Item 6 – used wording of Funding the Mission. XIV. Funding…clarified the percentages of the funding. He clarified that the 10% special goes to the Global Ministry Center. All other monies go to the District. Also, the formula was printed again.

Dr. Middendorf brought a challenge to the delegates from Acts 11:19 and shared how the people in Antioch and two disciples came and spoke to the Gentiles. This was the initial point workers were sent out
55
to minister. He challenged the delegates to recover our dependence on prayer and fasting. He encouraged the delegates to listen to the Lord even more.
Dr. Middendorf called all the ministers forward for a time of prayer and prayed for them. The prayer time ended with the chorus “I’ll say yes, yes Lord”.
A motion made to allow the District Secretary to edit, amend and harmonize the minutes; it was seconded and carried.
Dr. Middendorf declared that the 38th District Assembly will come to a close at the end of business. Dr. Nixon expressed appreciation to Rev. Gary Durham, the church, staff and local congregation for
their work and for hosting the assembly.
V. Reports
A. District Officers
1. District Superintendent
Members and friends of this thirty-eighth Assembly of the Southern Florida District, I am honored to bring my sixth report as district superintendent of the greatest district in the Church of the Nazarene! We are the seventh largest district in the world and second largest in USA/Canada. Our cross-cultural district is a microcosm of the global Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Middendorf, among SFD Nazarenes, you’ll find no xenophobia here: fear of other cultures as evidenced in racism, hate groups and crimes. Nor ethnocentrism: belief that one’s own culture, race or ethnicity is the best—although our Hispanic people do believe Spanish will be the language of heaven! We do not force assimilation: we don’t welcome other cultures as long as they speak English. We don’t practice segregation: we don’t believe that our cultures should remain separate from each other. No, no, no! We accept each other and are building cross-cultural relationships with each other. Out of many God has made us one, and we celebrate our unity among great diversity. We embrace and value each culture within our boundaries. Together we are stronger than any one of us could be on our own.
We have continued the fishing theme into our Assembly that was so effectively begun at our NMI Missions’ Rally and Convention. To get us started, I want to play a video that sets the stage for this year’s report.
“Great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God…” Verse 1. Jesus’ popularity had reached the point wherever he went, creating problems for him. Our 82 organized churches and 6 CTMs/NewStarts together, drew great crowds of people: 8,923 attended SDMI and 11,137 Weekly Corporate Worship—people hungry to listen to the word of God. Leonard Sweet in Jesus Manifesto says, “God has a history of taking seriously people who take the eternal Word seriously.” I’d hate to disillusion anyone, but you or your church is not the draw; the only begotten Son of God is the draw. And our job is to lift Him up, for when He is lifted up, He will draw all people to himself. Whenever this happens our programs, methods and strategies will take care of themselves!
“Jesus noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets…” Verse 2. Jesus noticed “the fishermen.” I’ve noticed our fishermen (pastors) and discovered that not quite 50% (39) of our 82 organized churches have pastors with tenure of 10 years or more. We have experienced fishermen. Here’s breakdown: 20 of our pastors have been fishing five to nine years; eight (8) from 10 to 14 years; thirteen (13) between 15 and 19 years. At this point the fishing expertise moves to a very exclusive group: “old men of the sea!” We have seven (7) who’ve captained the same boat from 20-24 years; six (6) for 25-29 years: Francisco Palacios, Miami Calvary (25); Fritz Guerrier, Ft. Pierce First Haitian (25); Joel Sejour, Miami Deliverance (25); Reuben Cruz, Lake Worth El Mesias (27); Dorsainvil Gracious, Lake Worth New Life
56
(28); and Anthony Amilcar, Miami Hope Haitian (28). Incredibly, four (4) who’ve been fishing in the waters off Southern Florida for over 30 years: Delanot Pierre, Miami Peniel and Ardee Coolidge Jr., Miami Bethel (30); Mel Santiesteban Sr. (32); and just retired in November 2010, but continuing to serve as Pastor Emeritus, William Chambers Jr. (64 years of continuous service to the Homestead church!) We celebrate longevity. Jesus also noticed empty boats.
“Empty boats” could be about empty churches. The Church in America in many places looks like an empty boat. The vast majority of churches have less than 75 people. 10K boats were lost at sea—they disappeared in a five-year period. No more than 38% of the population attends church at all and that’s in the Bible belt. Larry Withham in Who Shall Lead Them? concludes, “20% of US churches have no future.” Other leading church analysts stress the alarming truth that over 80% of American Protestant churches are plateaued or declining. SFD is not exempt. This past year we placed another Anglo church on the inactive list (Palm Beach Boulevard). “The rate of church closures is alarming,” writes Douglas Small. A third of America’s churches will close within the next decade.”
We don’t learn until Verse 5 that they’d worked hard all night and didn’t catch a single fish. “Empty Nets” are disappointing. Eight of our churches had zero conversions; eighteen added no one to membership by POF. They fished all year and caught nothing. The great majority of our fishermen did catch fish: 1883 conversions and 530 baptisms. Our boat is not empty, and we cannot say we’ve caught nothing. We penetrated the darkness with the light of the gospel to people blinded by sin. It’s not easy work. Fishing is messy and smelly; and, it takes persistence—the kind of determination demonstrated by Roxana Soto of our Miami Bethany Church. She kept knocking on the door of Nidia for two years before catching her for Christ—a true Resurrection story! If you want the fish you catch to be already scaled, gutted, cleaned and cooked, that may be why your net is empty!
We organized two new churches this year. Both occurred in the month of April. Despite the fact that only 4% of America’s churches will ever plant a daughter church, Mel Santiesteban Sr. and Nora defied the statistics and planted their tenth church. On April 3rd, La Familia de Key Largo Iglesia del Nazareno was organized with 40-50 charter members. God gave a vision for a new work in Key Largo. Ralph Williams, Anglo pastor since 1997, embraced the new work and has handed the controls to Pastor Mel. We hope to keep the English-speaking congregation going, along with the new Spanish church both groups sharing the same facility. The Church of the Nazarene is the only Spanish group with a church building in the Keys. Eglise de Jesus Christ du Nazareen, in Boca Raton, planted by Pastor Auguste Millien, was organized on April 10th with 56 charter members. We have two others in view for organization this year. It is my privilege to honor these pastors with “The Harvest Award.”
Our SFD team went to San Jorge and worked in the Chapel Factory on the old seminary campus, bought equipment and materials to fabricate and construct the first chapel in Tola, Nicaragua, with money donated by the Longacre Foundation. Two churches have now been constructed and El Timal is almost complete. Many more will follow. If we’ve had any success, I’ll tell you why: scores of our people joined me in the Daniel Fast: January 2-22. We prayed and fasted for three weeks and three things:
(1) Holiness (a revival thereof). Actually, it started when a group of us gathered at Camp Garner Creek in Dickson, TN, to pray for a movement of the Holy Spirit in our global church. Over 30 of us agreed to fast on Friday’s from September to February to see it happen. Then came M11 in Louisville, and a gracious outpouring of the Spirit, the likes of which I had not personally seen since the Asbury Revival in 1970! Nearly every place I go, there seems to be a hunger for a movement of God’s Spirit. Revival is coming. The global awakening we’re praying for is near.
(2) Provision (every church, pastor, layperson, and our district). In the middle of a culture with fiscal fears, we embraced an entierly new way of funding the Mission. We stepped out on faith this past year with a whole new funding plan. As one pastor put it, “Faith is like walking off the edge of a cliff with the confidence that God will build a bridge under our feet as we go, one foot at a time. Faith preceded our dollars; our faith forged on in spite of obstacles. With each step we have taken, the bridge of God’s
57
economy has extended beneath our feet.” Anthony Haney, Exec. Dir. reports the greatest year we’ve ever had in the history of this LPCCC ministry with revenue near $1.5M. We could not have balanced the District budget without LPCCC help to the tune of $60K.
God is providing for us. Even though our TMR of $10.6M declined for the third straight year from a high of $13.3M in 2008, God has enabled us make adjustments; reduce spending, and pay all of our bills in full with a little left over. We received 82.6% for District Funds (3.64%); 66.5% for TNU (1.66%); 82.5% for Pensions Fund (1.65%); and PTL, 95.08% for WEF (5.23%), just $26K short of 100% payment. Of the 14.4% asked we received 12.2% . In addition, SFD Nazarenes gave over $112K to Hope 112 and $6K in NCM Child Sponsorships for the children of the Foyer Center
Twenty-nine of our churches fished all year and gave less than 1% to help us fund the mission for some/all funds. Unemployment in some places on our district has been 20% and I am told that in some of our churches it has been as high as 50%. The economy has not helped, but the giving level may be symbolic of a larger problem. While 65% of Americans say they donate to a place of worship, 85% of Evangelicals donate to their church. But only 9% tithe. And only 14% of “born again” Christians tithe. So I’d like to teach about tithing for a moment.
(3) Disciple-making. (That 2011 will be the greatest year we’ve ever had for new converts). Pastors, you reported 1883 conversions. We added 634 by POF and 276 from other denominations for a total of 910 New Nazarenes. Unfortunately, our losses totaled 764. Counting full, inactive and associate members, our membership stands at 18,067.
“Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there” — Verse 3. Jesus wants to step into your boat. Will you let him? But then, will you push it out into deeper water? At Jesus’ prompting, Simon Peter takes the first step toward effectiveness—he pushes his beached boat away from shore into deeper water. With Jesus in the boat (the secret of success), he has a front row seat to whatever Jesus would teach. We don’t know precisely what He taught, or how much time elapses between Verses 3 and 4, but when Jesus finishes, it was time to show them how to be effective.
“Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish” — Verse 4. “Master,” Simon replied, “We worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing…” — Verse 5a. Jesus tells experienced fishermen who have largely been ineffective, “Do as I say and you will be effective.” But first, they make excuses. Jesus was not teaching them to fish, but showing them how to catch fish. I highly recommend Geoff Surratt’s book, Ten Stupid Things that Keep Churches from Growing.0 He says that many times we are so close to the action that we can’t see our own mistakes and we end up making decisions that undermine the very outcome we desire. We are our own worst enemy. So he offers to point out the major flaws that stunt the growth of churches: Here’s a sampling:
1) Refuse to settle for a second-rate worship service. See your worship service through the eyes of the first-time attender. Is your service alive with the power of the Holy Spirit? Fast and pray and prepare, and expect His anointing upon you and your services.
2) Improve your music. “Good worship music is one of the most effective means we have of helping people connect with God, and poor worship music is one of the most effective ways of keeping people from making that connection.” Next to you, pastor, your worship leader is the most vital leader in your church.
3) Overhaul your preaching. What a high privilege we have to stand before an audience and present the gospel! It’s a really big deal, and if you plan to preach next Sunday, you should be working on getter better at it this week. We’re not called to be entertainers, but we must preach with passion if we ever hope to reach them.
0 Geoff Surratt, Ten Stupid Things that Keep Churches from Growing (Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2009)

4) Do everything on purpose. “The most valuable sixty to ninety minutes of the week are the minutes when your congregation is sitting in the pews or chairs in your auditorium. Every single minute is valuable and nothing should not be done without planning and without a specific purpose.” Don’t waste time on meaningless chatter. He’s brutal: “Stand up, speak up, shut up.”
5) Make your primary worship service the most important thing you do. Here’s why: “Sunday is your one shot during the week to speak truth to most of your congregation and to share the gospel with newcomers who desperately need to know Jesus.” The disciples had worked hard but were ineffective. Eliminate the ineffective.
EMPTY NET REALITIES
One place we fished all year long but caught nothing. We prayed. We fasted. We worked. Our nets were empty until May 5th. We spent the entire year trying to secure property to launch our Hope 112 Project. The property we sought escalated from $60K to $200K. Meanwhile, SFD Nazarenes continue to give generously so that we now have $112K in the bank for this project. We asked for and received a new budget and we are ready to deploy.
“But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again” – Verse 5b. Jesus’ call to effectiveness requires faith and obedience. Later, Jesus would say, “I will build my church,” (Matthew 16:18) The plan is His. He took the initiative. He has no Plan B. “This reality,” writes Bill Wiesman, “saves us from taking the growth of the church into our hands as if it is our doing. Before we get up, God is already building His Church. Our role is to recognize what God is doing and to participate in it.”0 Our part is to go and make disciples; His part is to build His church. So, let the nets down again and leave the results to Him.
LETTING THE NETS DOWN AGAIN
1) Through fasting and prayer. The Early Church was powered by prayer and fasting, our secret source of power. For the fourth consecutive year, not as a program or activity to be tacked on to an already frenzied calendar, I ask all who will, to join me in the full Daniel Fast or a partial fast from January 2-22, 2012.
2) Through revival. Starting August 9 and ending on August 30, 2011, we will push out into deeper water in six areas—Spiritual Deepening Events with Dan Bohi. Dates and locations are as follows: August 10-12: Ft. Myers First; August 14-16: Ft. Lauderdale; August 18-20: Ft. Pierce Haitian; August 21-23: Ft. Pierce First; August 25-27: Miami Jackson H.S. (Hispanic); and August 28-30: Princeton. Load up your bus or van hungry people and head to a location nearest you. These are intended to be Area Revival Rallies. Pastors, we need your help to make them successful.
What if the disciples had done nothing? What if we do nothing? Doing nothing is not an option. You may be saying, “I’ll never grow a megachurch, or even much of a microchurch, but if you are casting the net where He asked you to fish, you are reaching people with the gospel of Christ, you are seeing lives changed for eternity. This is why we keep fishing, why we will let the nets down again: “We are consumed by a holy purpose.” As Bob Broadbooks reminds, “Our purpose is not to grow the church. Or win an award. Or to further our career. Our purpose is to introduce people to Jesus and His abundant life: to make Christlike disciples. If our purpose is anything less than holy, our nets will be empty. If you are content with what you have and what you’ve achieved, you won’t let the nets down again. But if God has put a fire in your heart to reach more people than you are presently reaching, you need to obey Jesus and let the nets down again!
3) We’re letting the nets down again in Haiti. Despite escalating costs and several properties coming in and out of view, I am happy to report that God has led us to a new property, a better property, and sufficient NCM funds to pay for it. So the disciples let their nets down at Jesus’ command, and we read…
0 Bill Wiesman, in A Holy Purpose (Kansas City: Beacon Hill Press, 2011), p.130.
59
“…This time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! “ – Verse 6. Net-bursting opportunities await us on the other side of faith and obedience! We need to find God’s direction for our churches. If nothing was impossible, and you knew you could not fail, what would God accomplish in your church over the next three years? Who will your church reach that you are not reaching now? If Jesus let your net down on the other side are you willing to do it? That’s what it means to be “maximally Missional.”
NET-BURSTING OPPORTUNITIES 1) Rekindle radical generosity. Even in these financially fearful times I challenge us to radical generosity,
particularly those who have not participated or have only partially participated in funding the mission. Malachi 3:10 challenges us to put God to the test by tithing: “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!” David Nixon did not make that promise, God did. “Ninety-day Tithe Challenge:” Here’s the deal—accept the challenge and here’s what we’ll do: if God does not bless you in ninety days, we’ll give back the total you gave. In a moment, I want you to come forward and make that public commitment.
2) Renew faith and obedience. I also want to invite those who feel like the disciples—you fished all year long and your nets are empty—but in faith and obedience, you want to respond, “Because you say so, Lord, I’ll let down the nets!” By coming you’re saying you want to reaffirm your commitment to see people break away from the kingdom of darkness and enter the kingdom of light. You’re saying, “I want to see people grow in their faith! I will pray and fast to see my community transformed! I want God to change the place He has planted me to serve. If your boat is empty because you didn’t try; if you made mistakes in the past that you don’t want to repeat, I invite you to come now for this closing prayer. If you yearn for the Spirit to breathe new life into your church, come; let’s pray about it.
3) Recommit to live holiness in word and deed. It’s time for us to recognize what God is doing and participate in it. I’m asking you to recommit to live as Jesus lived and love as Jesus loved? As the Brown brothers in A Holy Purpose put it: “The Missional church disassembles itself and seeps into the cracks and crevices of society in order in order to be Christ to those who don’t yet know him.” Will you? The Holy Spirit is alive in those cracks and crevices and we want to join Him where he is working. In Opalocka at Home of the Nazarene and South Miami at Nueva Esperanza; through Manna Ministries in Venice and Sarasota and Punta Gorda; through Bags of Hope in Ft. Lauderdale and in downtown Miami through MBCS—and at your zip code! It’s time for all of us to penetrate the cracks and crevices where He’s placed us! If we’ll do our part, the Holy Spirit will do what only he can do—transform hearts and lives. Brothers and sisters, I want to see us do it at home and abroad. The best we can do is change the world; only Christ can save the world! This I know, we are saved to be sent—to continue Christ’s mission living the mission in the cracks and crevices of our world. We are sent to be Jesus, doing good—seeing, following, and being Christ. So let us step out of ourselves and into the sandals of a hurting world.
Respectfully Submitted,
David F. Nixon

C. Assembly Committees
1. Finance Committee
(Manual , pars . 203.20, 237.1-2) The District Finance Committee is a standing committee representative of the district constituency: lay, ministerial, geographical, church size, and ethnicity. It is motivated by the great stewardship themes of the Bible, as represented in Malachi 3:8-10 and Matthew 28:19-20. It is intended that the members of this committee be practitioners of the principles of biblical stewardship and representative of churches that consistently practice regular and full remittance of all Funds for Others. This committee strives to promote the most equitable, efficient, and effective ways and means by which all churches may experience both the disciplines and blessings of obedience to God’s laws of biblical stewardship which must be taught, preached, and modeled in attitude and action by pastors and local leadership. It is from the biblical basis of stewardship that your Finance Committee recommends the following:
I. Care of the Pastor Item 1. That each local church ensure that their pastor is a full participant in the pension plan of the church that he/ she may receive a contribution to her/his individual TSA account and life insurance. Item 2. Each church reimburses the pastor’s quarterly Social Security/Medicare tax, or an amount equal to the tax, as the pastor may elect. Item 3. That churches contact their local IRS office or the Pensions and Benefits office to discover various ways of saving their pastor money on income taxes.
63
Item 4. That the following vacation time with full salary be granted for accumulative full-time ministry: 1-5 years—two weeks; 6-10 years—three weeks; 11 years and longer—one month. Item 5. That the church board gives prayerful, attentive consideration to reviewing and adjusting their pastor’s salary to normative consumer index changes at least twice a year and annual incentive/merit increases as well. One review is to be made in conjunction with their budget preparation. The church secretary shall send a report of their decision to the district superintendent. Item 6. That each local church remembers its pastor and his family at Christmas time, in a well-planned, generous, and appropriate way. Suggestions are: a. An amount equal to one week’s salary & housing allowance from the treasury b. A church-wide love offering c. Gifts Item 7. Additional benefits the church might want to explore for the pastor include: a. Low-cost group term life and disability insurance b. Non-reimbursed medical and dental expense c. Book allowances d. Old-fashioned grocery pounding e. Financial assistance for continued education Item 8. That the churches participate (up to the allowable 20 percent of salary) in the Nazarene Retirement Program (tax-sheltered annuity) for ministers who earn their full livelihood from the ministry. For details write: Board of Pensions, 17001 Prairie Star Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66220. Item 9. For those churches desiring to study the desirability of a housing allowance in lieu of furnishing a parsonage, guidelines may be secured from the Department of Pensions and Benefits. The address is listed in Item 7. Item 10. That each local church considers the pastor’s auto expense as a local operating expense using current IRS guidelines, or consider purchasing or leasing an auto for the pastor’s use. Item 11. In order to encourage tenure, enrich and honor deserving pastors, local churches are encouraged to consider pastoral sabbaticals in the fifth year of continuing pastoral relationships. For details, contact Pastoral Ministries in Kansas City.
II. Care of Associates Item 1. The impact the associate ministry makes upon our district cannot be overlooked. Therefore, adequate vacation time, semiannual salary and benefits review, love offerings, annuities, and health insurance will need to be considered by the local church and appropriate action taken in providing for the associate. Item 2. Pastors and church boards are reminded of the Manual, par. 161, where caution is requested so that the employment of the associate will not tax the church’s financial resources.
III. Care of the District Superintendent Item 1. That the district provides a housing allowance. Item 2. That the vacation schedule in Sec. 1, Item 3 apply. Item 3. That a gift be given at Christmas time to the district superintendent.

64
of the District Advisory Board prior to the convening of the district assembly, and that this report be made available to the District Finance Committee for the Annual Budget meeting prior to the District Assembly. Item 2. That the District Treasurer be added to each Auxiliary checking account, furnishing all necessary information for the District Treasurer to gain access to these accounts. Item 3. That all District Ministries Funds (District, Home Missions, NYI, NMI, and Sunday School Ministries) be remitted directly to the district office as one District Ministries Fund.

The local church must have paid 100 percent of the assigned Education Fund for the assembly year closing the summer prior to enrollment. This scholarship is available for up to four years through age 23. Item 2. That our churches understand that when the District reaches 90% payment of the Educational Budget, all money above 90% goes to direct financial aid to SFD students. Item 3. VI. Minutes and Reports of Auxiliary Conventions
A. NMI Convention
38th Annual Convent ion 26th Report of the President and Council
By Dennis Moore May 14, 2011
It was pitch dark. From the small bow mounted light all he could see were powerful sheets of
horizontal rain pounding his windshield. The wind was howling from the southeast causing huge foaming white caps on top of the 10, 15 and 20-foot waves.
This commercial fishing expedition had started routinely from the safety of Tampa Bay and then in to the Gulf of Mexico. His helper wasn’t able to go on this trip – but that was fine, he had successfully traveled the 50 miles out in the Gulf plenty of other times without help. He needed a good catch to make the boat payment and to support his wife and new son.
What he hadn’t expected was a surprise hurricane that apparently had come north from south of Cuba.
So there he was alone on a 30-foot commercial fishing boat named the “SeaBee” somewhere off the coast of Florida. The compass said he was headed southeast – but he had no idea if he was actually making progress toward land or was being blown further out to sea.
Over the past several years he and his divine Father had been engaged in some interesting exchanges. He had gone to Bible College for a while. He then got married and for a time worked as a carpenter on the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Recently he acquired the “SeaBea” and his wife ran a fruit stand for snowbirds visiting the Clearwater area. It was an on and off relationship with God.
Aboard the “SeaBee” in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, in the middle of a hurricane, in the middle of the night this twenty something had a very intense discussion with the Father of all creation. It was one of those “Cast your net on the other side” moments. The young man was obedient; he never abandoned the call from that moment on.
God guided him through the storm and back to port. He tied up his boat and immediately received the first local preacher’s license from the Clearwater First Church of the Nazarene. He immersed himself in the ministerial course of studies.
In 1946 Florida District Superintendent, Dr. Charles Strickland, appointed him to a small struggling church in Pahokee, Florida. My father never waivered from that “Cast your net on the other side” moment -- in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.
I’m glad he didn’t. It is amazing what one obedient “Cast your net on the other side” decision can mean. Because of his obedience, many found the Kingdom of God who might not have otherwise. Because of his obedience – he was able to influence a second generation Nazarene – me. And because of his obedience, I was able to influence what are now third generation Nazarenes – our children. And
72
because of that obedience nearly 70 years ago – we have the makings of a fourth generation of Nazarenes among us today.
Most of us will probably never have to go through the “Cast your net on the other side” experience my father faced in the Gulf of Mexico, but almost always God uses struggles, disappointments and even failures – to offer us new paths, new possibilities.
We selected the “Cast your net on the other side” theme for 2 reasons: First, we knew it could be a fun experience. We thought we needed to lighten up. Secondly, we are still sobered by the struggles many of our churches continue to face. Maybe its time for us to decide its time for a “Cast your net on the other side” experience. Part I – The New Reality, Our New Challenge
Not only our churches – but also the entire denomination is undergoing a time of adjustment and new direction – mostly out of necessity. “Cast your net on the other side” seems to be an unspoken motto of our denominational leaders.
What is causing all this change is a nearly 25 percent reduction in contributions to the World Evangelism Fund. In case you’re new to the Church of the Nazarene – the World Evangelism Fund is the lifeline to funding our denomination’s worldwide evangelism efforts. Four years ago the church received nearly $50 million in contributions to the World Evangelism Fund. This year that amount is expected to decrease to near $37 million.
Here is the impact of these decreases: 1. Four years ago we had nearly 800 missionaries serving the Church of the Nazarene. Today that
number is approaching 700 missionaries. We aren’t bringing missionaries home yet – but as retirements occur – few replacements are being appointed.
2. The support staff of all our world regional offices has been reduced by nearly 50 percent. 3. The staff at our Global Ministry Center in Lenexa, Kansas has been reduced from a high of 300
employees to what will be about 130 employees later this year. Not surprisingly while all this has been happening with the global Church of the Nazarene – our
Southern Florida churches have also experienced severe challenges. This chart shows the five-year history of contributions received by all our churches. Our collective church contributions have decreased by over 24 percent.
As our income has suffered, so have our collective contributions to the World Evangelism Fund (show 5 year chart of WEF). This chart shows that over the past 5 years, our Southern Florida contributions to the World Evangelism Fund have decreased by 30 percent.
But – despite all these sobering realities, God continues to be on the throne, God continues to bless, God continues to command that we “Cast our net on the other side!”
Here’s what happened this year in the Church of the Nazarene: 1. Our total membership grew to exceed the 2 million mark. 2. The Africa region crossed the half-million member barrier 3. Southern Africa Nazarene University was born – the second Nazarene University on the Africa
continent. 4. Our Eurasia region experienced double-digit growth for the 6th consecutive year. Nearly 500
new churches were organized. 5. Bangladesh has gone from 1 Nazarene Church to over twelve hundred churches in less than 10
years. 6. The South America Region will next report more than a quarter million members. 7. Nazarenes contributed over $4 million dollars to Haiti relief after the devastating earthquake.
Nazarenes sent nearly 1 million pounds of relief supplies to Haiti – and I estimate that nearly half of that million pounds came from the Southern Florida District.
73
8. Our denomination’s Jesus Film project surpassed the 10 million mark in decisions for Christ. 9. Here is what happens EACH week in the Church of the Nazarene:
a. 43 new churches are planted b. 2,547 new Nazarenes are taken into membership c. 12,000 children are fed through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries d. and 12,745 decisions are made to accept Jesus as Savior!
This has been the first year of our new “Funding the Mission” strategy. Every congregation in the Church of the Nazarene from Ethiopia, to Papua New Guinea, to Belize, to Cuba – and to Southern Florida is being asked to contribute 5.5 percent of its incoming contributions to the World Evangelism Fund. We simply ask each church to contribute 5.5 percent of its current year income to our denomination’s mission enterprise.
Our results have been encouraging. As you can see from our World Evangelism Fund chart – we have reached our minimum 90 percent goal for the first time in four years!
Thirty-three of our churches overpaid their goal – which collectively has amounted to an amazing $80,000! Special tribute is given to our Avon Park church, which overpaid its World Evangelism Fund by an overwhelming 361 percent. Similarly, recognition is given to Bradenton First for overpaying its goal by over $18,000.
Right now we are at 94 percent of our goal. While we are still $30,000 from that illusive 100 percent payment of our World Evangelism Fund goal – we have made good progress in the number of churches contributing to the effort. Last year 23 of our churches made no contributions to the World Evangelism Fund – this year that number was down to just 6.
We must determine if we ARE truly inter-connected, inter-related and inter-dependent on each other and our mission to bring every soul on earth to the loving arms Jesus. If we believe our people should personally tithe their income through very difficult times, then we have to decide if that concept is important for our church to follow also.
We have the second largest church membership in the U.S.A. – I think we should have the largest. I believe we SHOULD honestly “Cast our nets on the other side” and be the leaders in our denomination. Along with our unique cultural character – we can demonstrate our inter-connectedness by leading the denomination in our commitment to local AND world mission efforts. Part II – Our Missions Council
Let’s quickly meet our amazing District Council: Mary Shuck serves as both our Vice-President and MissionaryLINKS Coordinator. The giving to
our 4 LINKS missionary families was just over $3,600. Last summer Mary fell down a flight of stairs at the Ft. Myers Airport. The fall and resulting injuries were life threatening. While the healing process continues, we are amazed how God has touched her body in miraculous ways. Unfortunately for us, Mary has decided not to renew her “contract” with us after nearly 20 years of service to Southern Florida Missions. Thank you Mary for your creative energy and for always being so encouraging and affirming over the years.
Trisha Spear is our phenomenal district NMI secretary. She always looks for creative ways in reporting what we do and getting your reports on what you do. Thanks Trish!
May Bell Lin is our long serving treasurer. This year May Bell has worked to consolidate our treasury with the District Office. Today May Bell will be reporting on the nearly $50,000 she handled for us this year.
Lee Ann Helzer serves capably as our Alabaster Fund Coordinator. We are thankful for the nearly $40,000 contributed to Alabaster for the construction of mission buildings and the purchase of mission properties.
74
Cheryl Chastain has done a tremendous job as our Children’s Coordinator. She led our Passport to Adventure in October where nearly 100 children came forward to accept Jesus and 11 said they have a call to missions.
Kandy Griffith is our children’s MissionCall Coordinator. She has been very busy working with children who believe they have a call to missions.
Rev. Ardee Coolidge serves as our Compassionate Ministries Coordinator. We continue to provide service to Haiti through our modified child sponsorship program at the Foyer Child Care agency. You can see that contributions to Compassionate Ministries are up significantly over the past 2 years due to our commitment to helping fellow Haitian Nazarenes through the earthquake recovery. Pastor Ardee also chaired our Mission Stewardship Committee.
Rev. Ernso Dorsainvil serves as our Haitian Liaison. He assists in our translation services and in providing good training for our Haitian mission leaders.
Kaye Nixon is our well-suited Medical Care Coordinator. As a nurse she understands the need to assure that our missionaries receive adequate medical care. Your gifts to the Memorial Rolls, Distinguished Service Awards and offerings were over $7,000. Kaye also serves as our North Central Zone Coordinator. Linda Ketchum coordinates all the missionary tours on our district. You contributed nearly $25,000 to assist missionaries visiting our district. Rev. Pascal Permis is our most capable Prayer & Fasting Coordinator. Pastor Pascal is the conscience on our council – who always directs us back to the power of prayer. Wendy Lopez is our Mission PriorityONE and Church World Evangelism Fund Award of Excellence Coordinator. This year we will be recognizing 35 churches for meeting the four basic goals of the PriorityONE award program. Twenty-one of those churches will also qualify for our PriorityONE PLUS award. Rev. Jorge Diaz is our Hispanic Liaison Coordinator. He did a great job leading our tenth Hispanic Mission Congress with two Missionaries. Pastor Jorge also chaired our Education Committee. We have had two wonderful teen representatives this year with Jonathan Durham and Hannah Polk. Both have been fully engaged and giving us the teen perspective. Rev. Foster Schmitt has served as our Work & Witness Coordinator. Because our World Evangelism Fund contributions were below 90 percent the past 3 years – we were restricted from sponsoring any Work & Witness projects. Thankfully, that drought has ended and because of your generosity to the World Evangelism Fund, we are now back in the Work & Witness business. Pastor Foster also served as the chairman of our Prayer and Discipling Committee. Danae Clark is our first year Youth Coordinator. She did an outstanding job on her maiden voyage leading the Youth Mission Encounter in Homestead. Encounter has become one of the great highlights of our year. Danae is a nurse and also has a mission call.
We have a great group of zone coordinators: Dianne Hermann leads our Palm Beach Zone Churches. Eunice Puga takes responsibility for our massive Miami Zone. Donna Smith not only coordinates the Sun Coast Zone but serves with her husband Charlie as our
convention stage manager. Becky Gritton heads our Treasure Coast Zone and also leads Operation Mary that serves as a “Hold
and Witness” program for orphaned children in Ukraine. And Katherine Whiting leads our Ft. Lauderdale Zone. Dr. David Nixon is our very mission minded District Superintendent. He attends our council
meetings and is fully engaged in providing thoughtful input to our mission programs. He has been instrumental guiding us through some challenging and sensitive issues related to our Hope One-12 Child Development Center in Haiti. We so appreciate all that both Dr. David and Kaye have provided in loving leadership for our District.
75
Special appreciation is expressed to Gary and Irene Merritt for their work on our convention planning committee. Gary is the administrative pastor of our host church and did so much work in carrying out the details of this convention. I also want to thank Marla Buettner, my pastor’s wife, who year after year performs computer magic in making all our on-screen video presentations look so wonderful.
I want to close this portion of the report by paying special tribute to two of our younger council members.
Amanda Pound has just concluded her third year on the district council. Currently she serves as our Youth MissionCall Coordinator. Amanda reports we are now following and working with 72 young people from our district with a MissionCall. One of those persons with a mission call is Amanda herself.
From a very early age Amanda has had a call to missions. We are excited for Amanda because beginning this fall, she takes the next step in her quest toward missions. She transfers to Trevecca Nazarene University to pursue a mission and anthropology degree.
Amanda is an inspiring and true leader. Her Mom says that at a very early age Amanda announced she wanted to become the female version of Billy Graham. The next few short years are critical in her development and quest for missions. Let’s keep Amanda in our earnest prayers – that God will mold and enable her to become just the right person to win a lost world for Jesus.
Unbelievably, Wes Chambers has served on the district NMI council for 9 years. He started as a teen representative and for a while was the youngest District Alabaster Coordinator in the U.S. More recently he took over as our District web master. This year he was also responsible for our mission education program and World Mission Broadcast Offering (show chart).
Last week he graduated from Florida International University with a major in technology and a minor in music. This fall he will enroll at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City to work on his Master’s of Divinity Degree. He plans to continue serving as our web master.
Wes also shows great leadership skills. He is passionate in everything missions. He has been a great inspiration to our council. In all his Work & Witness trips he approaches every responsibility with great enthusiasm and purpose. The truth is, his positive enthusiasm is contagious to anyone who gets near him.
We solicit your prayers for Wes as he continues his theological education. Most importantly we pray that Wes will be open to the tasks God is readying for him to bring the light to a dark world. Part III – Haiti Update
Last year we left the convention and assembly elated how God had spoken to our churches and people about doing something quite extraordinary for Haiti – following that devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010. We believed God was directing us to help the very ambitious Tabarre church in Haiti. We believed a Child Development Center would impact thousands of children over the span of several years.
This past year, however, has been like a roller coaster voyage and a true test of patience. I don’t have the time to unwrap all that happened, but later this morning Dr. Nixon and I will give you a full report.
Here is a quick synopsis: 1. We received over $106,000 in church and personal pledges plus another $30,000 in pledges to
provide Work & Witness team. There was great rejoicing in the land. 2. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries agreed to purchase the land. 3. There were numerous delays and disappointments. 4. Other parcels of property had to be considered and there were more delays. 5. The property costs escalated to over 3 times the original estimates. 6. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries has finally just agreed to purchase the new property and
building at $200,000. 7. Dr. Nixon may have struggled with his religion over much of this process. 8. God may have been saving the best for last – with a larger more spacious property and a
building that can be quickly prepared for use.
76
9. $80,000 of the $106,000 pledges have been received. 10. We may get an update from Haiti later today. 11. Dr. Nixon went fishing. Caught a big one. His faith is fully restored. But wait there’s more. At last year Conventions and Assembly – we agreed to assist the Foyer Child
Care agency in Haiti to sponsor the equivalent of 50 children at $20 a month for a year. Here’s what happened: 1. We received enough pledges to support 65 children. 2. We didn’t get the updates from Haiti as promised. 3. We only received enough paid pledges to support the equivalent of 25 children. 4. Dennis nearly questioned his religion on this one. 5. After receiving the drawings of fish from the Foyer children – Dennis’ faith was restored – but
felt we should work to get 50 people or churches to faithfully sponsor 50 children at Foyer for one more year.
Here are my hopes and prayers with regards to both Haiti projects: 1. That all Hope One-12 pledges be paid. 2. That we strive for 100% involvement in some way by every church on our district to assist with
this Hope One-12 Child Development Project. 3. That we solicit a rapid strike Work & Witness team that could be ready to head to Haiti this
summer to help begin construction. 4. That we encourage the 3 churches which expressed interest in sending a Work & Witness team
to Haiti to now move forward with their planning and that we encourage other churches to join in helping with this project.
5. And that we find 50 people or churches willing to provide sponsorships at $20 a month for 50 children at the Foyer Center for another year.
All of this is an ambitious undertaking. We have to ask, is it time to “Cast our nets on the other side?” Conclusion
Thank you for the love, patience, encouragement and prayers you have shown Wendy and me over these 26 years. It is an honor to be part of something bigger than life. It is an honor to have some influence in helping reach our world for Jesus. Oh Lord, help us to be obedient to your call. Help us to know when it is time to “Cast our nets on the other side.”

NMI Proceedings
Friday Evening Service, May 13, 2011 7:30 PM
The Southern Florida District came together for the 38th annual Convention of Nazarene Missions
International on Friday night, May 13th at the Palm City New Hope Fellowship Church of the Nazarene. Many of those present came dressed in their “best” fishing outfits.
The stage was beautifully decorated as a Biblical village on Lake Galilee. The flags of the nations were hung to completely surround the auditorium.
A humorous “Fisher’s of Men” video started the evening service. The video was followed by a welcome from Dr. Dennis Moore, NMI District President. Dr. Moore then introduced host pastor, Dr. Gary Durham who brought greetings and announcements.
Jonathan Durham, youth representative on the NMI Council, opened the service with prayer.
77
Ryan Durham, worship leader for the Palm City Church, led the praise team and the congregation in songs of worship: Friend of God; You Are Good; When I Think About the Lord. The words were displayed on a video screen using three languages - English, Spanish and Creole. Dr. Moore introduced the guest missionary and dialogued with him about his many years of work for missions. Together they discussed the theme of the convention, “Cast your net on the other side” – taken from John 21:6. Both were dressed in fishing outfits. The Palm City New Hope Fellowship Choir brought a special, Use Me. Our guest missionary (name not published because of his work in creative access areas) shared about the remarkable work of God in his mission experiences. Each person was given a “tackle box” and encouraged to cast their nets on the other side. In his best fishing garb, Dr. David Nixon shared that the evening offering or catch would help our guest missionary purchase a much-needed car for his use on the mission field. He encouraged everyone to give generously. The offertory was the song “Blessings” performed in sign and drama by “Ministry in Motion” from the Palm City New Hope Fellowship Church. Dr. Moore made closing announcements and also announced the winners of the most creative/unique fishing outfits worn at the night’s service. Rev. Serge Michele of Ft.
