We support and encourage our youth to attend community 12-step meetings and we coordinate our treatment with the 12-step model. e OATS model uses a strengths-based approach that builds on the personal assets every person possesses, while addressing the challenge and needs of their particular situation. Our interventions include: • Individual counseling • Family counseling • Psychoeducational skills-building groups (such as anger management, communication, moral reasoning, relapse prevention) and group therapy sessions • Case management to connect with community resources • Supervised drug-free activities Treatment services are individualized and build upon each youth’s unique strengths and abilities. In addition to addressing drug and alcohol issues, OATS’s community-based, family-centered approach explores other life domains such as the youth’s living situation, family issues, education and employment, legal, medical, social, and health concerns. OATS PHILOSOPHY COUNSELING OATS offers individual, group, and family counseling. Individual counseling is based on behavioral, school-based, and family assessments. Group counseling focuses on social skills development, anger management, and moral development. Family counseling is designed to promote positive communication and healthy parenting practices. All sessions offer clients the opportunity to express their feelings and emotional needs in a confidential and supportive setting. Case Management Each OATS participant has the opportunity to receive case management, a highly personalized method of advocacy and support for persons needing additional family and community resources. Socialization Activities/ Field Trips OATS youth have regularly scheduled opportunities to participate in guided and supervised socialization events. These social/recreational outings encourage youth leadership, foster positive community participation, and provide unique educational opportunities for young people in a drug free environment. Past field trips have included sporting events, museum tours, family picnics, and other activities. Aftercare To ensure OATS participants are gaining maximum benefit from the program, staff members also provide after care to youth. Two months following their discharge, OATS youth are contacted by staff for a follow-up to resolve any outstanding issues or questions and to ensure that they are maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
