Over the past few years NYChessKids organized some of the biggestand most competitive scholastic chess tournaments in New York City.
NYChessKids can organize a chess tournament at your schoolat no cost to you.
Chess tournaments bring prestige to your school and also encourageyour own students to play at their school's chess tournament.

How to Register
OnlineVisit www.nychesskids.com and navigate to tournaments.Fil l out and submit your registration form online.MailVisit www.nychesskids.com and navigate to tournaments.Download the registration form.Fil l out the registration form and send it to us by mail.
Schedule (1)
8 AM to 9 AMOnsite registration for people who did not register online.
9 AM to 9:45 AMParents & children arrive. Sections will be posted on wall charts.Round 1 pairings will be announced.
9:45 AMOpening Ceremony. Each section will be called and children gatherin the tournament hall.
10 AMStart of the tournament.
Schedule (2)
Rounds 2-4 of each section will start at the completionof the previous round.Awards ceremony at the completion of the last round.Approximate time to fi nish:

Unrated SectionsFor children who just started to learn chess.
Rated SectionsFor more experienced children who want to play in a competetive environment.
Children are required to write down the moves on a score sheetand to play with a chess clock.
Children must be a member of the USCF - United States Chess Federation.
Games will be rated by the USCF based on individual performance.

Many kids who play in this section may not even knowall the rules of chess.
There will be constant supervision of this section.Trophies and medals to all.

Novice 1
Open to children in grades Kindergarten and 1st.
This section is meant for children who know how to play chessbut who are inexperienced in playing in a chess tournament.
This section is unrated.
Novice 2
Open to children in grades 2nd - 5th.
This section is meant for children in elementary school who know how to play chess but who are inexperienced in playing in a chess tournament.

Open to children in grades Kindergarten and 1st.
This section is intended for children who are alreadyexperienced playing in chess tournaments.
Entry-level section for children who are interestedin obtaining a USCF rating.
600 USCF rating upper bound.
This section is rated.
Primary
Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 3rd.
800 USCF rating upper bound.
Time control: Game in 45 minutes or game in 40 minutes+ 5 seconds delay per move.
4 rounds.
This section is rated.
Reserve
Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 12th.
1,000 USCF rating upper bound.
Time control: Game in 45 minutes or game in 40 minutes+ 5 seconds delay per move.
Classic
Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 12th.
The USCF rating has to be between 1,000 and 1,300 .
Time control: Game in 60 minutes or game in 55 minutes + 5 seconds delay per move.
Open
Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 12th.
The USCF rating has to be between 1,300 and 1,600 .
Time control: Game in 60 minutes or game in 55 minutes+ 5 seconds delay per move.
Championship
Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 12th.
The USCF rating has to be at least 1,600 .
Free entry for children whose rating is over 2,000!
