Happy Thanksgiving

Traveling to the shore of United States from In-dia in 2002, the first beautiful event I witnessed was Thanksgiving: time of friendship, giving thanks, and delightful food. This holiday is one of the things that is unique about our country. As far as I know, we were the first nation to set aside a day simply to give thanks to God. Throughout the world and in the United States, there are holidays to celebrate independence, victory in war, and the arrival of spring and saints' days. All of those celebrations involve gratitude for specific things, but today is a holiday which is about gratitude itself. I became an American citi-zen in 2010, another great day of Thanksgiving. May our country be the most grateful one on this Earth.

This is a beautiful holiday- Thanksgiving Day - the heart of salvation. In the Gospel Jesus heals ten lepers; only one re-turns to give thanks. Thanksgiving is at the heart of our spirituality as gratitude is the parent virtue. The parable of Talents reminds us that everything we have is a gift from God and what we make of life is our gift back to God in gratitude. A deep sense of generosity and stewardship will help us share, care, and celebrate life together. Indeed, the Holy Eucharist is the greatest act of Thanksgiving. Thanks be to God for our Savior and Redeemer.

My heart is filled with gratitude for all of the blessings God has granted me, from a wonderful family, and the oppor-tunity to serve in Corpus Christi Parish, in which all of us together are the Body of Christ. The opportunities to serve people in various capacities: by proclaiming the Gospel and celebrating the Sacraments, while loving them, learning from them, and caring for them, especially, those in need and with special situations, are great gifts for me. For the times I failed, I apologize and learn. For the times we were successful and faithful, I thank the Lord.

We are so grateful to Bishop Joensen for his pastoral visit, celebrating the Eucharist, and guiding our hearts to a great future.

Many thanks to actor, Frank Runyeon, and all those who participated in our Advent Mission.

May we greet one another at this beautiful time of Thanks-giving with joy and gratitude.

Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias

Viajando a la costa de Estados Unidos desde la India en 2002, el primer evento hermoso que presencié fue el Día de Acción de Gracias: tiempo de amistad, agradecimiento y deliciosa comida. Esta fiesta es una de las cosas únicas de nuestro país. Hasta donde yo sé, fuimos la primera nación en reservar un día simplemente para dar gracias a Dios. En todo el mundo y en los Estados Unidos, hay días festivos para celebrar la independencia, la victoria en la Guerra, la llegada de la primavera y los días de los santos. Todas esas celebra-ciones implican gratitud por cosas específicas, pero hoy es un día festivo que se trata de la gratitud misma. Me convertí en ciudadano estadounidense en 2010, otro gran día de Ac-ción de Gracias. Que nuestro país sea el más agradecido en esta Tierra.

Esta es una hermosa fiesta, el Día de Acción de Gracias, el corazón de la salvación. En el Evangelio, Jesús sana a diez leprosos; solo uno vuelve a dar gracias. La acción de gracias está en el corazón de nuestra espiritualidad, ya que la gratitud es la virtud de los padres. La parábola de Talentos nos recuerda que todo lo que tenemos es un regalo de Dios y lo que hacemos de la vida es nuestro regalo de regreso a Dios en agradecimiento. Un profundo sentido de generosidad y corresponsabilidad nos ayudará a compartir, cuidar y celebrar la vida juntos. De hecho, la Sagrada Eucaristía es el mayor acto de Acción de Gracias. Gracias a Dios por nuestro Salvador y Redentor.

Mi corazón está lleno de gratitud por todas las bendiciones que Dios me ha otorgado, de una familia maravillosa, y la oportunidad de servir en la parroquia de Corpus Christi, en la que todos juntos somos el Cuerpo de Cristo. Las oportun-idades para servir a las personas en diversas capacidades: proclamar el Evangelio y celebrar los sacramentos, amarlos, aprender de ellos y cuidarlos, especialmente a los necesitados y con situaciones especiales, son grandes regalos para mí. Por las veces que fallé, me disculpo y aprendo. Por los tiempos que fuimos exitosos y fieles, doy gracias al Señor.

Estamos muy agradecidos con el Obispo Joensen por su visita pastoral, celebrando la Eucaristía y guiando nuestros corazones hacia un gran futuro.

Muchas gracias al actor Frank Runyeon y a todos los que participaron en nuestra Misión de Adviento.

Parish Meeting this Sunday, November 24th, at Carter Lake Site after the 9:30 Mass to present the Meitler Study on Carter Lake and engage in dialogue about the Vision 20/20 Plan and its implementation together. All are invited to this meeting. Thanksgiving Eve Mass will be this Wednesday, November 27th, at 6:30 pm at Holy Family Church. No daily Mass on Thursday, November 28th.

The parish office is closed on Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th.

Attention New & Current Altar Servers Students in the 3rd through 12th grades currently serving at Mass or seeking training as a new server are invited to attend one of three 1-hour Altar Server Training sessions at 12:30 pm on Sundays, December 8, January 12, and January 26. Seminari-ans from Conception Seminary will be at Corpus Christi Church to train students and adults wishing to help with training on these three dates. A new training guide will be distributed as a tool for students that includes some chang-es from past practices. So all current servers are asked to attend one of the three 1-hour training sessions. The Joint Christmas Dinner with Holy Family Rosary Society and KC Council John F. O’Neil will be on Wednes-day, December 11th, 6:30 pm at the Corpus Christi Holy Fam-ily Social Hall. Dinner and refreshments are provided. This is for all members and their spouses. Please contact Bob or Jean Boettcher at 712-322-2843 for reservations by Decem-ber 4th. There will be a $5.00 white elephant gift exchange for entertainment.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Feast will be celebrated on Wednesday, December, 11th, 6:00 pm at Corpus Christi Church with a bilingual rosary followed by Mass at 7:00 pm. There will also be a procession after Mass and a dinner reception at no cost at 8:30 pm in the Great Hall. Come to celebrate our beloved mother of the Americas with multicul-tural dances, food, and the traditional awaken songs until midnight. A free will donation will occur during Mass. Please note the change in the schedule for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
