Japan Current

The Korean peninsula is divided just slightly north of the 38th parallel. It is said to be a “Demilitarized Zone,” called The DMZ. This separated the country into two political areas. Each gained international acceptance trading in countries such as Canada, the United States, Russia, and China, and in International Organizations, (IO's) such as the United Nations, (UN). Each sought independence as countries, and a form of union. North Korea and South Korea are compared by Konya, Schlegal, and Baldwin, as accepted countires with borders, stability, and political order with the required transportation, economic stability, and political freedom.

The DMZ.

History: North Korea

After Korean War, Kim Il Sung takes over

Nationalization versus Chaebol “people’s” property versus the

highly private chaebol while abuses in both, higher

standard of living obvious only in one

Juche (self-reliance) closed all capital flow "the hermit kingdom”

Militarization versus Chaebol to secure power Kim Il Sung

diverted a third economy for military instead of economic reform (South Korea, 3%)

22 million population, 1.2 million military

wastes the most able-bodied men of society with unproductive job

famines every year, starving peopleEdit: P. Anna Paddon October 31, 2012. Elect as Cowichan Crofton MLA, May 14 2013, BC Provincial Elections, Canada.

Page 17: North Korea South Korea

North Korea: Economics Refusal To Join Global Markets

Through Juche Lower Standard Of Living Police State: lack of

democratic institutions Government Army

Legitimacy: massive famines

Notable Exceptions To Global Markets Drugs Arms Trade Significant portion of GDP

used for making the military bigger, not food
