After getting my Ph.D. (2013, UBC), I have been expanding my area to pedagogy of L2 pronunciation and phonetics, using biovisual feedback from ultrasound. Since I found interesting L1 prosodic transfer from Japanese to English, my interest is growing in areas such as prosody-syntax-discourse interface, acquisition, and language assessment. My long term interests are mechanisms of synchronic variation and diachronic change, the parallelisms between them, issues on phonetics-phonology interface, the explanation of phonological patternings in viewpoint of phonetically-grounded markedness, and documentations of under-studied languages.
