• How congested are the peak commute times? For this, the percentage of the population that drives to work during peak commute hours was taken into consideration, accounting for 10% of the score.

• How’s the weather? Because poor weather conditions can make driving dangerous, the number of days with precipitation was looked at for 10% of the score.

Since insurance is costly to begin with and premiums can vary depending on where you live, the average annual car insurance premium for each city was determined. Additionally, crime, such as car theft, and population density can also affect car insurance premiums. This amounts to 10% of the score

• How expensive is gas in the area? Average gas prices in each location were evaluated for 10% of the score.

• How much higher is the chance for an accident? Accidents are not only costly, but inconvenient. The relative likelihood of an accident for each city compared with the national average was researched for the final 20% of the score.
