Parivartan : The Social Club The volunteers of “Parivartan ” The Social Club I.T.S distributed blankets and woolen garments

to the poor people of Ghaziabad and Delhi on 19th December, 2012 night till 2am

(20th December,2012).

We started this social event from Sahibabd slum area and railway station. After that we distributed

the clothes in Vijay Nagar, Ghanta ghar, Patel Nagar, Ghaziibad Railway Station, Dilshad Garden

Metro station, ISBT Anand Vihar, Shahadra, Kashmiri Gate, and various places of Delhi. We end-

ed this programme at Vasundhra Slum area.

We the volunteers of “Parivartan” thanks to all the contributors who helped us in collecting suffi-

cient amount and collecting the woollen clothes.

These volunteers have shown the heroic effort during clothing the poor on footpaths till late in the

night.

Workshop on “Best Practices in Recruitment and Selection” A workshop on “Best Practices in Recruitment and Selection” was organized for MBA & PGDM students. The

workshop was conducted by honorable guest faculty Dr. Shailendra Singh from IIM Lucknow. The session started

with an interesting introduction given by Director Management Dr. A.K.Suryavanshi. During the workshop, he

shared facts and figures along with the latest trends in recruitment practices in India.

Every concept, such as “Employment Equity”, “Diversity @ Workplace”, “Staffing system and retention strategy”,

“The Hiring Process”, “Types of Recruitment”, “Alternatives to Recruitment” and several more, were well explained

by him along with examples. The various “Selection tests” were also discussed in an elaborative manner by the emi-

nent professor of IIM Lucknow. Lastly, the guest speaker ended by wishing luck to the students!

As a part of Industry exposure to the 2nd year students of PGDM programme, a guest lecture was organized at I.T.S-

Mohan Nagar campus on 06th December, 2012. In a very interactive and energetic session Mr Amit Kumar Srivasta-

va, Key Account Manager, Scandic Food Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi discussed various kinds of sales reports and their

analysis. He said that Sales reporting and analysis provides visibility into a company's sales pipeline, integrating in-

formation from sales, customer and financial sources for a complete picture of sales performance. All organizations

need to track adherence to sales plans. The key performance indicators as defined by the plan need to be monitored

on an ongoing basis. With the availability of simple yet sophisticated CRM systems, tracking sales from leads stage

to closure & payment has become easier. However, complete automation of sales reports is still a distant dream.

Sales reporting demands the involvement of dedicated human resources with good understanding of the systems &

processes, felicity with numbers, attention to detail and an ability to interpret & present the data in a form that is easy

to understand for the users. The key aspects covered during the session are as follows:

Log sales reports into computerized systems on a periodic basis – daily/weekly/monthly

Consolidate the daily/weekly call reports of sales executives and present the same in a comprehensive and sim-ple-to-analyze format

Track sales against quotas

Monitor expenses against estimated budgets

Generate exception reports as and when there is a deviation from plan, to alert management

Compose weekly/monthly summary reports and presentations

Perform ad-hoc reports and analysis

Throughout his lecture he referred to his own personal life experiences. Students listened and participated in the lec-

ture with great enthusiasm and asked several questions.

Guest Lecture on “Sales Channel Management” by Mr. Jitendra Mahendran

A Guest Lecture on “sales channel management” was organized for PGDM students. The lecture

was conducted by honorable spekaer Mr. Jitendra Mahendran from Head Max Group, Retail Arm.

The session started with an interesting introduction given by Director Management Dr.

A.K.Suryavanshi. During the workshop, he shared facts and figures along with the latest trends in

retail in India.

Every concept such as “sales dilemma”,” execution excellence”, “fluid management” and queries by

students over sales profile were well explained by him along with examples. The various “Selection

tests” were also discussed in an elaborative manner by the eminent speaker. Also he mentioned about

why execution is more important before strategy, where he told that strategy is important not the exe-

cution but execution is the fundamental to strategy. Execution is a tactical side of business, as tactics

are central to execution but execution is not tactics only.

Lastly, the guest speaker ended by wish in luck to the students!

Utkarsh Lab – Theater Club organized Play

“ABHISHAPIT VARDAAN”. Under the guidance of Dr. AK S Suryavanshi, Director Management, theatre committee was formed.

The committee members presented a small play titled ‘Abhishapit Vardaan’ at 3.30 pm on 7th of

December, 2012 at ITS auditorium. The story was about an old man living alone and waiting his son,

grand son and daughter in law. The play portrayed the psychodynamics of elderly people, living alone

in metro cities. Om Prakash of PGDM II trimester stole the show.

Director Management, Faculty members and PGDM II trimester students were present.

Workshop on “CYBER SECURITY” by IARG Technology Lab

for IT Specialization students A workshop on “Cyber Security” was organized for PGDM students. The workshop was conducted

by ISARG Technology Lab professional who are Masters in implementing cyber security mechanism.

The session started with an interesting introduction given by Prof Kapil Mohan Garg and thereafter

students were taught fundamentals of cyber security. During the workshop, students were made aware

on various Cyber Security techniques that can be used by students to safe guard their data and infor-

mation bases.

They were also made aware of various tools and techniques to identify hackers and hacking, social

engineering, Bit lockers, Key loggers, Phishing, Computer system registry editing, identifying fake

mails, making and identifying fake and fraud web pages, etc. and several more, were well explained

by the trainers along with test experiments. Student’s performance was also evaluated and they were

also given the workshop training certificates. Lastly, the guest trainers ended by wishing luck to the

students!

“GLOBAL DESTINATION EXPO” Organised by ‘IB CLUB’ under ‘UTKARSH LAB COMMITTEE’

The students of IB Committee under Utkarsh Lab hosted

the ‘Global Destination Expo 2012’ on 14th Dec, 2012 for

PGDM-II Trimester students. The objective of this activity

was to maximize opportunities

to students for understanding

different countries, their cul-

tures, resources, tourism, and

explore prospects of new mar-

ket around the world.

The students participated in

teams comprising of 5 members

each and each team represented

a country. It was a platform for

students to exhibit uniqueness

about their representative coun-

try and draw maximum visitor students to their counter.

In all, there were 6 teams and the country counters which

came up were : Sweden, Bhutan, France, Romania, South

Africa and Singapore. The teams showcased their talent

and creativity by setting up counters of different countries

and promoted their country as a hot destination from the

point of view of business, tourism etc.

For easy identification and to draw attention, some coun-

ters had displayed country flags, some had replicas of fa-

mous monuments, some had jewellery of the country, some

had images of tourist spots on laptops for display and some

had folk music playing in speakers. On the whole, it was a

great learning for the participating teams as well as the

audience. The collaborative effort of the team members in

luring visitors to their country was very evident. The teams

were well equipped with adequate knowledge about repre-

sentative country and handled queries of visitors quite well.

The counters were visited by the non-participating PGDM

-II Trimester students as well as some faculty members.

On the basis of some laid down criteria such as conceptual-

isation & Innovativeness,

counters were evaluated by

student audience and three

The enthusiasm in students was great fun to watch and

there was an air of vibrancy and colours all over.

The event was supervised by Prof. Charu Sharma, Assis-

tant Professor, Management Department.

Guest Lecture on “Activity Based Costing” by Dr. A.K Mishra A Guest Lecture on “Activity Based Costing was organized for PGDM 1st year (2012-2014) students on 15th December,

2012. The lecture was conducted by Speaker Dr. A.K Mishra, Professor IIM, Lucknow. The session started with an inter-

esting introduction about need and importance of using an Activity Based Costing over traditional methods and why in-

dustries are making a switch over to this new method of costing technique.

The speaker covered various concepts involved in Activity Based Costing viz, Production Centre, Service Centre, Primary

Allocation, Secondary Allocation, Cost Pool, Cost Drivers and so on. He also discussed a case study from Havard Busi-

ness School which was circulated to the students in advance with the solutions.

Lastly, the guest speaker ended by wish in luck to the students!

Christmas Celebration by Cultural Committee On 20th December, Utkarsh Lab - Cultural Committee celebrated Christmas

festival. On this occasion, a show was staged by cultural committee in which

students of PGDM 1st year have given their performances.

The event is started by a Christmas carrol’ STAR OF PRAYER’.

After this, a skit was performed “Pani Re Pani Tera rang Kaisa” by the group

avengers. It was based on a social issue, with the help of that skit, they want to

show the nature of society around us.

The song to be only yours of A Walk To Remember is sung by Deepika.

At the end of the event, our cultural com has decided to present a student as a Santa Clause to give a feeling

of Christmas and the whole auditorium cheered with clappings and Christmas song.

Overall, the event was very interesting and our cultural com will try to organize many more such events in

the future.

The session was supervised by Prof. Vikas Saxena, Assistant Professor, Manage-

ment Department.

Guest Lecture On Organizational Change To portray an industry perspective to the topic ‘Organistion Change’, a two hour guest interaction was organ-

ised for PGDM-II Trimester students on 24th December 2012 in the Auditorium. The guest speaker was

Mr.Dheerandhar Singh, GM(Networks) from TV Today Network. The speaker shared his thoughts and expe-

riences on deliberated topic with a blend of theory and activities. To honour the guest, students gave an intro-

ductory welcome followed by a bouquet.

The session was enriching and thought provoking for the students as the speaker shard his industry experienc-

es through relevant examples. It commenced with an introduction to the fact that ‘Change’ in an organisation

is inevitable. But before we proceed to change the organisation or the world we live in, we first will have to

change ourselves. If a person does not readily accept or incorporate change in his life, he ends up no-where in

his personal and work life. So, welcome and accept the change and take proactive steps to manage the

change.

The speaker educated the students about the forms of change –Planned & Unplanned. It was also clarified

through an activity that change comes at a cost – of time and money. The students learnt about the different

factors of change- external and internal which compel change. Some Organisational Change theories and OD

Interventions were also highlighted for enabling a holistic understanding of the topic. The speaker used some

videos to emphasize the utility of teams and team work. He educated students about the wonders a team can

do and make the impossible ‘possible’. Students were made aware about the unavoidable resistance to change

and the ways to tackle such resistance.

The students were provided some time towards the end to raise any queries on the topic. To culminate the

session, a motivational song was played for students to instil in them the necessity for change to enable both

personal growth and career progression. Stress was also laid on setting some goal for life and adopting re-

quired changes to achieve the set goal.

The session was highly interactive and the students experienced a good learning.

Guest Lectures A CEO – Talk was delivered by Mr. Ishank Joshi, CEO and Founder of Nurture talent academy, for BBA 1st year students

on 4th Dec, 2012. Mr. Joshi advised the students on being job creators and not the job seekers.

A guest lecture was delivered by Prof. P.K.Goel, Ex-judge Advocate, General Indian Navy, for BCA 1st year students on “World Trade Organization” on 4th Dec, 2012.

Mr. Rakesh Ganjoo, Regional Manager - Novo Nordisk, delivered a lecture on “Business Ethics” for BBA 1st year students on 1st Dec, 2012.

A guest lecture on “SDLC” was delivered by Lt. Col. (Retd.) Ram Kumar Bhardwaj, General Manager – Corporate Re-sources, Vidyatech Solutions, for BCA III year students on 5th Dec, 2012.

Mr. Sachin Malik, Director and Learning Coach at The Neurons, delivered a CEO Talk session for BCA I year students on 7th Dec, 2012.

A guest lecture was delivered by Mr. M. K. Kaul, Marketing Head-Pharmasynth Pharma Ltd., on the topic of “Concepts of Marketing and Advertising” for BBA III year students on 7th Dec, 2012.

A two-day workshop on “Linux and Marketing” was organized by Impeccable Trainers Pvt Ltd for BCA II and III year from 5th-6th Dec, 2012 to teach students about use of Linux, MySql on Linux, PHP in Linux etc.

A guest lecture on “Memory Management Techniques” for BCA I year students was delivered by Mr. Rakesh Kumar Pra-japati, Project Lead, Droisys Inc Noida on 7th Dec, 2012.

Dr. Sartaj Sahni, Renowned Author, Researcher and Academician from University of Florida, Florida, USA delivered a talk on Green Computing

In the series of talks by internationally renowned speakers,

a special session on talk on “Evolutionary & Research is-

sues in Data Structures and Algorithms” was organized by

Department of IT on 24th December, 2012 at the institute.

World renowned author and expert on Data Structures and

Algorithms, Dr. Sartaj Sahni, Distinguished Professor at

University of Florida, Florida, USA was the invited speaker

on this occasion. Dr. Sahni has written 48 Books or Book

Chapters including his internationally acclaimed book in

Data Structures published in 7 international languages, pub-

lished over 400 research papers, 16 copyrights, 09 patents

and guided more than 40 research scholars who have com-

pleted their doctorate under his able guidance.

In his address, Dr. Sahni focused on the research related

issues in the area of Data Structures and Algorithms. In a

highly interactive and unique session, faculty members

from other institutes interacted with Dr. Sahni. Answer-

ing to the query raised by one of the faculty, Dr. Sahni

said that available recourses of a computer are, generally

seen, underutilized. This increases the energy consump-

tion and thus contributing in the environment issues. He

suggested that by exploiting multy-core capabilities of

computers, balanced used of multiple cores, putting ener-

gy meter and writing codes that runs in parallel using

multi-threading principles contributes in less energy con-

sumption and better speed. He said that by using multi-

core functionality which are available in every computer

now-a-days and distributing the computing load by small

balancing we can not only get faster computing speed but

also get energy efficiency also. Dr. Sahni addressing to other

question from one of the faculty enlighten the gathering by

speaking on Green computing and cloud computing through

efficient algorithms. Speaking on optimizing recursive algo-

rithms, Dr. Sahni said that now days we have sophisticated

compilers which are equipped with the capabilities of elimi-

nating recursion from programs and thus removing its relat-

ed implications.

Dr. Sahni, while addressing to another query by a faculty

spoke on need and significance of amortized analysis of al-

gorithms and presented a comparative analysis with worst

case analysis. The issues of P, NP, NP-Complete and NP-

Hard problems were also raised by many of faculty mem-

bers. Dr. Sahni elucidated with fundamental concepts of P &

NP with its deterministic and non-deterministic nature of

solvability some examples, he said that still it is an un-

answered question whether a P-Problem is equivalent or

under what condition it can be equivalent to NP problems.

Dr. Sahni also addressed many research related issues and

suggested some of the research issues needs to be resolved

and have potential research areas for taking up further in the

field of Data Structure and algorithms. Explaining with some

examples he narrated the concept of cloud computing and its

relation with the green computing. He started his address by

categorically explaining the chronological development of

IT which started from Analog computing to digital compu-

ting and after covering a long way and passing from various

faces we have entered into the era of cloud computing and

now one of the most sought after stream which is known as

Green Computing. While defining Green Computing, Dr.

Sahni referred to various researches and mentioned that

Green Computing is the study and practice of designing,

manufacturing, using, and disposing of computers, servers,

and associated subsystems—such as monitors, printers, stor-

age devices, and networking and communications systems

— efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on

the environment.

In his address, while underlying the causes affecting and

contributing in the level of pollution through IT, Dr. Sahni

said that though, on first instance it appears that computers

are the lowest power consumption devices and it is true up to

the extent of considering the consumption by individual ma-

chines. But in current scenario when millions of machines

are installed, the consumption gets multiplied and causes a

reason for worry to all of us. He further said that we don’t

need to renovate or build the machines in different way but

by just finding out the reasons and developing alternative

algorithms which can control the causing reasons of more

power i.e. energy consumption, we can achieve that. Dr.

Sahni laid out four paths along which, he said, could have

the environmental effects of computing should be ad-

dressed: Green use, green disposal, green design, and

green manufacturing. Green computing can also develop

solutions that offer benefits by "aligning all IT processes

and practices with the core principles of sustainability,

which are to reduce, reuse, and recycle; and finding inno-

vative ways to use IT in business processes to deliver sus-

tainability benefits across the enterprise and beyond".

Dr. Sahni demonstrated the rebuilding of algorithms from

existing one to an alternate which have the capabilities of

removing recursions from an application and demonstrated

the application of amortized analysis by comparing it with

worst-case and average case analysis. Addressing to an-

other query raised by one of the faculty present in the ses-

sion, Dr. Sahni further elaborated the process of instruc-

tion execution and the reasons increasing the energy con-

sumption and expressed his concerns on the current pro-

gramming approach followed across the places not only in

India but otherwise as well where approach for teaching

and learning programming does not seem to exploit the

power of a computer system and left most of the time

available resources and computing power idle. He quoted

the examples of programming on a multi-core machine

which exploits only a single core and leaving others un-

used which otherwise could have increased the perfor-

mance of execution of programs on manifolds if we could

only execute our codes by creating multiple threads as

number of cores present. This causes the parallel execution

and thus improves the performance exponentially. He said

that our way of teaching the programming needs to be

reviewed and change so that student can learn, think and

apply them to develop such applications.

Referring to the questions asked by many of the faculty

members present in the session, Dr. Sahni said that current

research areas in the field of data structure needs to ex-

plore and find the ways and means to exploit multi-core

functionality of computers, developing efficient algo-

rithms which fit into the current sophisticated machines.

Earlier, Dr. Vineet Kansal, Director – IT, I.T.S, Mohan

Nagar, Ghaziabad welcomed Dr. Sartaj Sahni and Prof.

Umang Singh introduced him with the audience. The ses-

sion was attended by large number of faculty members

and industry delegates from various institutes/ universities

of far off places including Jaipur, Panipat, Gurgaon, New

Dekhi, Greater Noida, Noida, Ghaziabad etc and organiza-

tions. All the faculty members of Department of IT (PG)

were present on this occasion. This session was, indeed an

informative and session giving good learning experience.
