SANDIWAY PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER SANDFEST OUR MUSIC FESTIVAL We are very much looking forward to our music themed Summer Fair this coming Saturday. There is a fantasHc programme of music planned and a lot of hard work has gone into the preparaHons all we need now is plenty of sunshine and lots of support from visitors. We do hope as many children and parents are able to come along for the aKernoon. The fun starts at 1.00pm. Tickets are available before the event (making a saving on a family Hcket). Members of the PTA will be available on the school playground before school each morning this week. Please speak to them for Hcket sales, further informaHon and to offer your help during the aKernoon. OPEN AFTERNOON Don’t forget that it is our Open AKernoon this Friday. This is an open invitaHon for you to come into school to see all the work that your children have done this year. School will be open to parents and friends from 1.15pm unHl 3.00pm. Please come to the front door, where some helpers will escort you to the correct classroom. You are then free to take your child and their books to a place in the school (outside, if the weather is fine) to look through their work. Your child will also be able to show you where we have refreshments, which you will be welcome to help yourself from. Ice creams/lollies will also be sold during the aKernoon by Year 4 children. TRANSITION WEEK This week, teachers have been meeHng to discuss all the children as we prepare for their move in September. This is an important Hme to ensure that no progress is lost from July into September. To ensure that this transiHon process is as smooth as possible, this year the children will be taking their workbooks with them to their new classes and carrying on using them. This will clearly show the progress from one school year to the next and will show teachers what children are capable of at the end of what has been a very successful year. SCHOOL REPORTS I hope that you have had Hme to read through your children’s school reports. Teachers have spent a lot of Hme ensuring that the informaHon is accurate and easy for you and your children to understand. Please use the Hme that remains this term to speak to teachers, if necessary, to get further clarificaHon of the messages that are given. I have read through and made my contribuHon to every report; I am very proud of all the achievements this year. We would be grateful for any comments from you and/or your child. Please complete the feedback form that you will find in the report envelope and return this to your child’s class teacher or the school office. All comments will be treated confidenHally. SCHOOL PLACES We are delighted to be in such a popular school; there is not a week that goes by without parents contacHng the school asking for a place for their child. We have a good reputaHon, an outstanding Ofsted judgement (in 2011) and strong data from the children’s results. As soon as anyone leaves the school, there are parents wanHng the place. We are delighted to have 30 new RecepHon children starHng with us in September. Some NUMBER 31 / SUMMER TERM 2015 / WEDNESDAY 8TH JULY 2015

  • classes in KS2 have now risen above 30 children. I am very mindful of the need to ensure that class sizes do not get too large, however, I also have to balance this with the needs of any children and their families who want or need the places. Please be assured that all decisions are taken with great thought to ensure that we can maintain our high standards and dedicaHon to high quality learning for all children.

CLUBS FOR NEXT YEARIn next weeks newslefer (the last one for the year), I will let you know which clubs will be on oer for the Autumn Term. I know that parents appreciate gegng this informaHon as early as possible to arrange child-care etc. In the meanHme, Mr Aults clubs are listed below:

TIMES FOR GREASE PERFORMANCEI would like to clarify the Hmes of the performances next week: We have a morning performance on Tuesday 14th July at 10.00am (not 9.30am as some of the Hckets incorrectly indicate). The evening performances on Wednesday and Thursday (15th and 16th) both start at 7.00pm.

SCHOOL LUNCHESWe have new menus in operaHon from September. I will put these on the school website for the beginning of the year. Copies will also be available in the school oce. I try to spend Hme with the children at lunchHme - it is a lovely Hme to catch up with them and also a good Hme to talk about the school lunches. From September, we will be undertaking some surveys and quesHonnaires with the children to gauge their feelings about what they like and what they want to improve. From September, there is a small increase in price for the lunches, up by 5p to 2.20 per day.
