Zero Net Energy Homes or Zero Energy Homes, produce as much energy as they use.

They are green homes that are built very airtight, are well insulated, and utilize high efficiency appliances, along with heating and lighting, making their energy use minimal.

Then once all aspects of the home are made energy efficient, we utilize a solar photovoltaic system to produce sufficient electricity to meet (and sometimes exceed) the energy needs of the home

Page 3: NET-ZERO home presentation

These homes have Zero Energy Bills, Zero Carbon Emissions, Increased Home Value, and Improved

Health and Comfort.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, in 2009 the average homeowner spent $2,200 on energy costs. With a Zero Energy Home, right from the first year, homeowners will have no energy bills, other than a low monthly electric hook-up fee.

Page 4: NET-ZERO home presentation

Using standard building techniques and energy cost modeling, Zero Energy Homes

can be very affordable to build, making them a sound sustainable investment. Zero

Energy Homes built in a cost effective manner may cost about 5% more than a

similar home built to code after state and federal rebates and tax incentives.

A Successful Net Zero Home Begins at the Design Phase…

It is best to develop a design in conjunction with a project team, consisting of: The owner The builderThe energy consultantThe landscaperand The designer

Understanding the site, with its assets and limitations, is essential to creating a successful Zero Energy Home design. Topography, weather patterns, temperature, winds, solar exposure, shading, heating/cooling degree-days, and many other site factors need to be reviewed prior to putting pen to paper.
