Intended AudiencePhysicians, physician assistants, registered nurses, nurse practitioners,nurse-midwives and certified professional midwives, public healthprofessionals, environmental activists, staff of environmentalorganizations, scientists and students.

Elements of CompetenceThis CME activity has been designed to change learner competence andfocuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of patient careand medical knowledge.

Purpose and ObjectivesThis activity will educate health care professionals about importantenvironmental factors affecting human health and how best to use

that information in primary care practice. The conference will also buildrelationships between environmental advocates and health practitionersto advocate cooperatively for public policies that promote a healthyenvironment.As a result of participation in this educational activity, participantswill be able to:

1) Share knowledge about the current scientific research on healtheffects of exposure to environmental hazards, identify barriers andopportunities for addressing key public health problems.

2) Identify and manage significant adverse environmental healtheffects and apply this information to patient care.

3) Advocate for a healthier environment and foster collaborationbetween individuals, organizations, and government.
