This photography course is designed to develop personal photographic vision and a fundamental understanding of traditional and digital photographic processes. Students are introduced to the technical and aesthetic concerns of digital, and black and white photography. Through the use of the 4 x 5 View Camera students will learn the principles of exposure and camera controls while making thoughtful compositions. Students use their own digital cameras to learn the principles of digital capture and editing. Assignments emphasize personal visual statements as well as a demonstrated understanding of image making.

MIAD, Summer 2010

THE END?! NO... IT'S YOUR BEGINNING!

This summer"s Pre-College MAJORS Program provided many opportunities for you to grow as

an individual and as an artist. The final exhibition exemplified the tremendous creative talent

practically bursting through the “MIAD Roof,” and you were an important part of what took

place here!

We hope this “Memory Book” captures some of your summer experience at MIAD -- the many

challenges but, ultimately, the triumphs that come from complete immersion in an intensive

studio experience. You worked hard, made new friends and explored different ways of

looking at the world.

Remaining involved and active in the artistic community is one of the most creatively

compelling things you can do! Please stay in touch with us -- whether through the Pre-

College Facebook page, e-mailing us or taking more classes during the fall and spring

semesters. Let us know what you are working on, and how we may continue to help you as

you further develop your talent and skills. Remember ... this is just your beginning!

Sincerely,

Jill Kunsmann (Program Director)!!! !!! Kari McIntyre (Program Manager)

MIAD"s summer Pre-College program is experiential. It"s a taste of what being a MIAD student is like; everything that surrounds you breathes, eats, and sleeps creativity. Hold onto this experience. For some of you it marks the beginning of a new path, and for others it confirms that this is what you will do for the rest of your life.

The MIAD Admissions team was excited to work with so many of you this summer, discussing your work and visiting your classrooms. While summer Pre-College has concluded, this is truly just the beginning. Our hope is that you"ll remain in contact with us as your portfolio progresses. Share your ideas with us. Ask questions. Visit campus again. Discover what an art and design education can do for you. Remember, MIAD Pre-College is only the beginning.
