ballooning♥ Most often in postmenopausal women

♥ Marked systolic ballooning of the ventricular apex

♥ Hypercontractility of the base of the heart♥ Most common in LV ---can occur in RV♥ Initial reports thought it was due to spasm♥ Now thought to be related to stunning of

the myocardium related to excessive catecholamines

CVICU MANDATORY Competencies 2010It’s time again for unit specific competencies. In this packet, you will find tests you need to complete prior to competency day . If you do not have them competed prior to your scheduled day, then plan to stay until you complete them. The packets are given prior to competency day to give the “brain more time to think”. The packet may look a little overwhelming at first… However, the tests were identified as needed by the education council as “high risk, low use” areas in our clinical practice or items we, as a unit, have struggled with during the past year. Now is the time to become familiar with them so you can easily care for patients.
