Question One

In what way does your promotion package for your album use, develop and challenge forms and conventions

of real music videos?

Goodwin's Theory

The way in which our music video relates to Goodwin's theory is the link between the visuals and the lyrics, we followed this theory by using this shot shows Karl's holding his head. The lyrics that this visual links to are the following; ‘So many thoughts battle me, got me holding my head in agony’.

Conventions of music videos

Our genre of music video is Rap.

Colours – The general colours typically used in rap videos would be usually dark colours blacks and white, down to the usually sad, sombre feel of the song.

Camera shots – Typically lots of close ups of the artist rapping or preforming.

Locations – Usually the videos tend to be outside in ‘ghetto’ areas or on stage preforming, depending on the mood of the song they could be by swimming pools or in their house etc.

What genre conventions we did and did not include and

why?

The conventions we used are the following:

Colours – We used the typical conventions when it came to the video, as Karl was mainly wearing black and dark clothes and in dim lit areas. We also used black and white shots when recording the narrative scenes to show a clear distinction between the two types of shots.

Camera shots – We included a lot of close ups of Karl preforming and lip syncing the song which would be typical of the rap genre.

Location – When shooting on locations we broke the conventions of rap videos by shooting in grasses open spaces and we used the brightness to make shots more vibrant. This isn't typical of rap forms and conventions.

Conventions of Digipaks

After doing some research into digipaks I have found out the following point-

A central image of the artist/s.

A branded identity.

Title of the album and the artists name.

Track list.

Productions companies.

What Digipak conventions we did and did not include and why?

In out Digipak we included the following-

A central image of the artist.

The title of our album ‘ Lego House’ and the artists names P Money & Ed Sheeran.

Track listing.

Productions credits, labels and a barcode.

After including all these we followed the conventions of digipaks, we did this as we thought it would be the best way to create a successful digipak.

Conventions of Digipak adverts

After doing some research into existing Digipak adverts they have the following-

A central image of the artist.

A brand identity.

Title of the album and artist/s name.

Date of release.

Review from a renowned magazine or organisation.

What Digipak advert conventions we did and did not include and why?

In our Digipak advert we have included the following things-

After seeing that adverts usually use their image in the center I decided to brake the conventions and put mine on the right to give it and original and different style.

The brand identity which is Karl looking at the floor giving a sense of depression or sadness.

It also challenges the conventions as it is on a white background.

I included the release date.

I included a review from another company on it to follow conventions and to make the advert look more professional.

Title of the album and artist/s name.

How your use of conventions might

attract or appeal to an audience?

The use of our conventions we used may attract an audience due to the meaningful and serious relationships related narrative, this is a convention of some Rap genre songs.

We also used a lot of black & white shots where we tell the narrative. We also used close up shots of the lip syncing.

These conventions are typical of the rap genre, as this will appeal to our target audience which is rap, hip-hop, acoustic and grime fans.
