Hello everyone, As president of the board, this year it is my mission to assist the Neighborhood Watches with as much good information as possible. It is important that the Neighborhood Watch members provide as much input and participation as possible to enable this exchange to occur. The fact is, personal responsibility is the key to a better society. Crimes are only successful if “good people do nothing.” I’ve found that most people do not want to be in-volved. When we let that happen crimes can increase in number. Neighbors have to look-out for each other or everyone suffers. Anyone could be the next victim of a crime, even you. Remember to lock your car whenever you leave it and keep your valuables out of sight. This includes your garage, driveway or the parking spot in front of your home. Report any suspi-cious vehicles in your neighborhood, especially during the day. Get to know your neighbors. I trust this year will be a very informative and productive one that all may gain from the experience. ]xÜÜç eÉxzÇxÜ Prince William County Crime Prevention Council President

NATIONAL TAKE BACK INITIATIVE

Potomac Mills Mall, Woodbridge—outside main entrance Manassas Mall, Manassas—inside mall between Sears and

Auntie Anne’s Pretzels October 29, 2011 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The U.S. DEA has scheduled a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to provide a venue for persons who want to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. More than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Each day, approximately, 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time according to the Partnership for a Drug Free Amer-ica. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.

DEA in conjunction with state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States conducted Na-tional Prescription Drug Take Back Days on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 and April 25, 2011. Nearly, 4,000 state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the nation participated in these events, collecting more than 309 tons of pills.

Four days after last fall’s Take-Back Day, Congress passed legislation amending the Controlled Substances Act to allow the DEA to develop a process for people to safely dispose of their prescription drugs. The DEA immedi-ately began developing this process after President Obama signed the Safe and Secure Drug Disposal Act of 2010 on October 12. Until that process is complete, however, DEA will continue to hold Take Back Days every six months.

An excellent opportunity to get rid of your unwanted or unused prescription drugs.
