Key things to remember

1. The importance of developing rapid recall of number facts such as times tables, no. Bonds and halving and doubling are extremely important

2. The development of mental strategies begins before written methods and then runs parallel to them – it is the thing that children will use most in life

3. Once understanding is in place we try to move children onto efficient methods as quickly as they can cope with

4. The language of and discussion in maths is important i.e. Know the difference between product and sum.
