Masthead uses a red font as Kerrang magazine is associated with many genres of rock etc. which is generally seen as a more masculine genre of music much as the colour red is. The use of a bold red font will also help the magazine to stand out and make it more likely to be noticed.

Barcode is used so that the consumer can buy the magazine

Plug to entice potential readers to purchase the magazine.

Sub heading uses the same colour of red as the masthead’s font in its background. A white font is then overlaid which contrasts with the red, making it stand out.

Main Image shows Fall Out Boy wearing dark t-shirts as to relate to the anchorage “The Hiatus Was Dark”. The image also shows Fall Out Boy using direct address as a way of connecting the potential customer with the magazine and enticing them to read the magazine.

Main Cover Line – The font is the same colour that is used in the background of the image as a way of relating the two. The main cover line also uses the largest font as it is what is most likely to catch the audiences attention.

Sub image is used to advertise what is being featured in the magazine

Menu Strip is used to list what other stories are featured in Kerrang.

Buzz word, “World Exclusive” makes it seem as though the consumer must buy Kerrang as they will not be able to read the same story elsewhere.

The layout of the magazine is very masculine as many of the colours used are shades of red, orange and black which are typically more associated with the male gender.

The main image is of the lead singer from We Are the In Crowd which relates to the story featured on page 24. This image will appeal to the audience of the magazine as the band is of the genre that Kerrang mainly covers.

The colour scheme of a blue background with white and yellow font makes the heading stand out.

The message from the editor makes it appear that the editor is addressing the reader directly as he uses a non-formal style. This is used as a way of engaging the reader.

The magazine is split into different sections depending on interests. This makes it easier for the reader to find what they are interested in reading. Band names are also printed in bold next to the page numbers in order to help the reader identify what they are interested in.

The main image is of My Chemical Romance which would appeal to the audience of Kerrang. The colours that My Chemical Romance are wearing are used in the colour scheme on the page. For example, the red and blue in the image is reflected in the font colour of the heading.

The colour scheme of blue and red is used as the font colour for the pull quote used as a heading to create a connection between it and the main image. The font used is of a larger size than the rest of the page as well as a different colour in order to make it stand out.

The article is written in columns on the left hand page. The use of white text on a black background makes the article stand out and also makes it easier to read.

The colour scheme follows the colours of which My Chemical Romance are wearing in the image e.g. Blue, Red and Black. These colours also contrast with one another, making them stand out.

A plug is used in order to persuade the reader into buying next weeks magazine. A buzz word is used, “World Exclusive” in order to further persuade the audience that they need to buy next weeks magazine as they won’t be able to see the interview anywhere else.

Masthead uses a white font as it contrasts with the image of Florence’s hair as well as matching with the top she is wearing. The white font also contrasts with the main cover lines font as it is black, making it stand out even more therefore it is more likely to be noticed.

Main Image shows Florence wearing a white shirts which links to the use of white font throughout the front cover of the magazine. The image also shows Florence using direct address as a way of connecting the potential customer with the magazine and enticing them to read the magazine.

The layout of the magazine is very minimalist and the use of colours is also very neutral which creates a synergy between the two aspects, making the magazine more appealing.

Main Cover Line – The font colour used is black which contrasts with the colour of both the masthead and the colour of Florence’s shirt. The font is also very large compared to other aspects of the magazine as it is the most likely to catch the readers attention and persuade them to purchase the magazine.

Sub heading uses the same colour scheme as the rest of the magazine, a white font to contrast with the red in Florence’s hair, making the sub heading stand out. In a normal edition of NME, the colour scheme is much more likely to be the traditional red, white and black. By not using such a scheme it solidifies the idea that this edition of NME Is special.

The magazine is split into different sections depending on interests e.g. News or Reviews. This makes it easier for the reader to find what they are interested in reading. The different subsections are also printed in bold as it also helps the reader in finding what they would prefer to read.

The use of a black background with a white font in the menu makes the different sections stand out and making them easier to read.

A plug is used in order to persuade the reader to subscribe to NME and continue buying the magazine. The use of yellow and white font on a black background makes the plug stand out from the rest of the page as the background contrasts with the font colours, making it more likely that the reader will notice it.

The buzz word “UK’s No 1” makes it seem as though by buying Q you are receiving the best music magazine in the UK. This will make it much more likely that the customer will continue to buy NME.

The heading is situated at the top of the page as that is what is most likely to be noticed first. The heading also features the largest font on the page as it will catch the readers attention. This is also true with the use of colours. The red and white font contrasts with the black background, making it stand out.

The band index is positioned on the left side of the page and is used in order to give quick and easy access to the readers favourite bands. A red font is used when naming the different bands in order to make them stand out from the white background. The headline for this section of the page uses larger font than other sections in order to attract the readers attention and it also uses a bold, black font in order to contrast with the white background

The main image is of Florence of Florence and the machine. This links to the heading used on the page as “got the love” is a quote from one of her songs. The red on the American flag also links with her as it matches the red found in her hair.

The article is written in columns as it is the most effective way to organise information. It also makes the article easier to read as reading the small front all the way across the page may be uncomfortable for the reader. A white background is used to highlight the questions that are being asked in order to make the article layout easier to understand.

A neutral colour scheme of white and black is used throughout the page in order to cause the occasional use of a blue font to contrast with it, making any information highlighted stand out.

The heading of the page is in a much larger font than the rest of the text as it will likely be there to catch the readers attention. It also gives a glimpse into what the article is going to be about but it is not a quite found within the article itself. This could also be seen as a pun as “got the love” is a lyric from one of her songs creating a link between the heading and the image as well as creating humour.

Main cover line uses a grey font as that colour is associated with the band logo. The font is also the largest on the page other than the masthead as it is most likely to catch the readers attention and persuade them to purchase the magazine.

Main image is of the lead singer in the Killers. This links with the main cover line and the fact that he is wearing a black jacket and is on a white background links with the font colour used and the featured colour scheme.

Sub heading uses the same font colour as the background of the masthead. The layout follows the same colour scheme of using red and black to highlight stories other than the main cover line.

Sub image is used to advertise other stories that are available other than the main cover story.

Masthead uses a white font placed on top of a red background as the colours contrast with one another, making the masthead stand out. The colour scheme of the masthead continues with the sub headings etc.

Sub images are used in order to show previews of the page. This allows the reader to identify bands that they like from the images and quickly find the page that they are situated on.

The main image shows Dave Grohl wearing a red t-shirt and carrying a black guitar. This relates to the colour scheme found in the Q logo and the heading of the contents page. This is also the largest image on the page as it is likely to relate to the main story in the magazine.

A large font size is used in conjunction with the main image. This is likely due to the fact that page 72 features the main story of the magazine so a large font draws attention to it.

The main image shows Jay-Z in a close up shot. A red light is used on the left side of the image in order to create a link between the colour scheme of the page. Jay-Z is also show to be wearing black glasses and t-shirt which also relates to the colour scheme of the page.

The article is split into columns as it makes the text much easier to follow due to the small font. The use of a black font on a white background also makes the article easier to read as the font colour contrasts with the white background.

The buzz word “Most Exciting” is found in the heading of the page as it is more likely to grab the readers attention if they believe that the article is going to be “Exciting”.

A large “J” is used as the background of the page. This links to the artist featured on the page, “Jay-Z” and it is also used as a way of contrasting the font from the article with the background. It is likely that the letter will be noticed by the reader as they are skimming the magazine, making it more likely that they will read the article. The font colour also follows the colour scheme found throughout the magazine.

The pull quote is used as it gives a preview of the interview. It is also highlighted in red as it is more likely to attract the attention of the reader. This also relates to the colour scheme found throughout the magazine of red, black and white.
