Plant "Open House" Attended By 5,500

Traffic was jammed and visitors moved into the plant four and five ·abreast at a snail's pace on the evening of Open House. In all, over 5,500 guests came to see us and our plant.

Notable among the many visitors-besides Ronald Reagan -were Mayor P. H. (Pat) O'Hern, Senator Homer Capehart, and Congressional candidate Vernon Hill. General Electric Officials present included: L. W. Kuttner, GPM Manager of Manufacturing; Charles Slater, Manager of Employees Re­lations, and Gene Henry, Manag,er of Finance.

The oldest visitor to travel the route was .92 year old Al Baugh­man. with cane in hand he paced off the plant and enjoyed every minute of it.

The morning session saw the arrival of a steady flow of school busses bringing young visitors to the Open House. It is estimated that nearly 500 students made the morning round.

The comments of employees indicate that showing their fa­milies through the plant was something that they had looked forward to and really enjoyed.

Mendell Padgett: "My dad had never been inside a factory

before and he was surprised to see that building small motors was such a big job."

John Murray: "My mother was interested and amazed at what she saw. My brother Jim said he didn't realize that there were so many parts in a motor. A friend of mine who repairs motors said he would really like to have one of our winding ma-chines."

Many employees also got a new appreciation of our whole operation. Julia Brown com­mented that she "had a pretty good idea of many different op-
