Robberies pertaining trailers and goods worth `3.5

crore have been registered;

Each trailer costs about `30 to `40 lakh and

approximately 11 cases of vehicular thefts have

been reported in 2011;

Trailers laden with foreign goods have been looted

right in the middle of the highway;

135 heavy vehicles stolen in Navi Mumbai in 2011;

Cargo Logistic was stolen from JNPT approximately

worth ` 4 lakh, weighing 15 tons missing.

Developments;

and will enhance the exports and thus, the growth of economies;

Over all Travel Facts of Navi Mumbai

About 81% of all types of journeys take place within Navi Mumbai;

The principal modes of Transport are Walk (54%), Railway (14%), NMMT (9%), Autorikshaw (6%), BEST

(3.5%);

Overall the major purposes for travel are Education (35%), Work and Part of Work (34.7%), Shopping

(24%), Social Visit (2.6%), Personal Business (1.5%), Recreation (1.1%) and Hospital/Doctor’s visit

(0.7%);

Only 46% of population use public transport;

The average monthly traveling expenditure works out to ` 850 (US$16.9). This amounts to an annual

expenditure of ` 211 crores (US$ 41.92 million) for all of Navi Mumbai.

Major challenges in protecting national icons and monuments from any natural hazards and manmade disasters – these include balancing security and public access;

Reduces the cultural heritage and the environmental assets to an economic commodity minimizing or sometime completely ignoring their socio-cultural values;

Converging of a large number of tourists of different background on a historic monument or site and location of tourists facilities on the cultural heritage sites leads to huge security problem;

Jurisdictional and competing stakeholder issues; and securing assets in rugged, remote areas.

The youth in many cases emulate the visitor’s behavior and social conflicts brew;

Large hotel chain restaurants often import food to satisfy foreign visitors and rarely employ local staff for senior management positions;

Preventing local farmers and workers from reaping the benefit of their presence;

Tourism often grows into mass-tourism. It leads to the over consumption, pollution, and lack of resources;

Tourist places have been damaged by vandals and inscribed gold/silver/bronze idols have been taken out of the country

Potential historical places in Navi Mumbai which can be developed into attractive tourist spots

Belapur fort is in dilapidated state. Plans are underway to renovate the fort which is danger of being lost to vicinity that supplies water to the area is also in danger. But this is the same fort which bears testimony of the glorious past of Maratha kingdom.

Ghansoli village was a part of the Salt Satyagraha movement. During the satyagraha movement as many of the national leaders like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Kasturba Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu assembled in ghansoli gaon, gathered salt from Airoli & Diva gaon and sold them in Thane Market.

With the planning work on the new airport nearing completion, the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) authorities have chalked out a comprehensive nine-point draft plan incorporating all modes of transit, including water ferries, to reach the new ‘greenfield’ airport not just from Mumbai, but all parts of the state.

Connectivity to the new airport from Mumbai will be a problem secured governance will ensure proper and reliable means of communication are planned right now so that they can take shape by 2015, which is the official deadline for the airport.
