ELECTRONIC SPIRETTE The Spirette is going to continue to be sent through the
Postal Service as it has been in the past. However, there is a lot of good information in the
Spirette that people viewing our website may find useful. Therefore, starting with our present
June/July Spirette, we will be attaching an electronic copy of our newsletter on our website. For
safety reasons, all phone numbers, E-mail addresses, or people’s addresses will be removed
from the newsletter. We will use the church as the contact for all events.
We need two people who can review the electronic version before we link it on the website.
Please contact Silvia Serrano in the church office if you can help.
SUPPORT THE PREGANCY CARE
CLINIC BABY BOTTLE FUNDRAISER
Starting the first week in June, we will be distributing baby bottles for you to put your spare change in. Your donation can be pocket change, bills, or checks. Please make your check out to Preganacy Care Clinic.
Funds raised support the clinic with the services offered to young women. Services include pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, abortion alternative education, childbirth & parenting classes and more.
Your prayers are coveted for this organization as they help empower pregnant young ladies to choose life for their unborn child. For more information, contact Gary MacDonald or Michael McKnight.
Please return the filled bottles by July 15 th to the office (or Narthex/foyer on Sunday mornings).
The bottles with your donations will be returned to the Pregnancy Care Clinic.
Wishing you a blessed and safe Independence Day 4th of July
The Church Office will be closed Thursday, July 4th. Regular Office hours resume Friday, July 5th.
PICTORIAL DIRECTORY UPDATE Due to pressing matters on the priority list, we were delayed in getting information to LIfetouch.
However, this opened up an opportunity to schedule an additional day to have portraits taken
of those who were not photographed in the origianl sessions. Contact Marilyn Gilbert to discuss
a day for the Lifetouch photographer to return to LCPC so you will be included in the new
directory when it gets published. Thank you for your patience.
Property Improvement Fund The Session has approved the creation of a “Property Improvement Fund”, which will
be used to accept donations to finance projects to repair and upgrade the grounds and
facilities at LCPC.
The first project to be taken on is new FLOORING in the Offices, Rooms 1 and 2, and
Fellowship Hall/Pre-School Offices. Thanks to fund-raising and generous donations,
the costs to do Rooms 1 and 2 and the Pastors Office have been met. The cost for
materials and labor for these projects is $8,000. These projects will be completed in
the next month or so. The expected expenditures for flooring in the Fellowship
Hall/Pre-school Offices is $9,700. The expected cost to do the remaining floors in the
Office is $3,000.
To date approximately 30% of these costs has been covered through donations.
We are asking that you consider making a donation, above and beyond your normal
giving, towards the expenditures needed for these projects. Use the RED ‘Building
Fund’ envelope and note ‘Property Improvement’ or ‘Building’ Fund on your check.
Thank you,
The Stewardship and Property Committee
SDMOM Needs
San Diego Military Outreach Ministries (SDMOM) is requesting supporting churches to please help fill their storage shelves with baby wipes and diapers of all sizes. LCPC recently had a big rummage sale so most of us don’t have large items to donate to MOM. However, we all have friends and neighbors who may have items for donation in the near future. With the new Distribution Center on Activity Road, MOM now has furniture pick up. You can call Ron Ewert at (619) 952-8373 or the MOM office at (619) 461-4164. Carol Vacin, MOM representative, will also be happy to assist you with any MOM needs or questions. By Charles Haddon Spurgeon: Morning and Evening Devotional/ May 23rd —
Morning Reading "The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me." — Psalm 138:8
Most manifestly the confidence which the Psalmist here expressed was a divine confidence. He
did not say, "I have grace enough to perfect that which concerneth me-my faith is so steady
that it will not stagger-my love is so warm that it will never grow cold-my resolution is so firm
that nothing can move it; no, his dependence was on the Lord alone. If we indulge in any
confidence which is not grounded on the Rock of ages, our confidence is worse than a dream,
it will fall upon us, and cover us with its ruins, to our sorrow and confusion. All that Nature
spins time will unravel, to the eternal confusion of all who are clothed therein. The Psalmist
was wise, he rested upon nothing short of the Lord's work. It is the Lord who has begun the
good work within us; it is He who has carried it on; and if he does not finish it, it never will be
complete. If there be one stitch in the celestial garment of our righteousness which we are to
insert ourselves, then we are lost; but this is our confidence, the Lord who began will perfect.
He has done it all, must do it all, and will do it all. Our confidence must not be in what we
have done, nor in what we have resolved to do, but entirely in what the Lord will do. Unbelief
insinuates- "You will never be able to stand. Look at the evil of your heart, you can never
conquer sin; remember the sinful pleasures and temptations of the world that beset you, you
will be certainly allured by them and led astray." Ah! yes, we should indeed perish if left to our
own strength. If we had alone to navigate our frail vessels over so rough a sea, we might well
give up the voyage in despair; but, thanks be to God, He will perfect that which concerneth
us, and bring us to the desired haven. We can never be too confident when we confide in Him
alone, and never too much concerned to have such a trust.

Adult Sunday School We will be continuing in our study of the Book
of Genesis through June 30th. It is never too
late to join us!
Genesis is the book of beginnings. It sets the scene for everything else in the whole Bible. In Genesis we learn about the creation of everything, the visible and the invisible. We discover how the universe was created. Genesis also teaches us where evil came from, explains the presence of pain, suffering and death in the world, and clearly reveals the solutions to these problems. We meet at 11:00am, following Worship. It is an opportunity to fellowship as well as to study God’s Word together.
NOTE: A reminder that Adult Sunday School will not be meeting during the months of July and August. We will be starting up again on Sunday, September 8th.
Church Work Party
Saturday, June 8
8:00 AM Our next work party is scheduled for June 8. We expect to be finished by Noon. Projects include completing the installation of the driveway solar lights, gardening, electrical work, roof repair, painting, plumbing, and cleaning. With many hands we can accomplish much needed work, as we did at our April work party. Coffee and doughnuts will be available. Contact the Church Office or more specific information and/or if you can help. The Stewardship and Property Committee
WELCOME BACK THE AFRICAN CHILDREN’S CHOIR We have sponsored the African Children’s Choir concerts several times in the past. These brave young people travel from their home in Uganda to share their musical and dance talents in our part of the world. It also allows their parent organization to promote sponsorship of children, and support efforts that provide food, medical help, and education to change children’s lives forever. We hope to have the opportunity in August to have another concert at our church. Check our Sunday bulletins for further details.
Brothers and sisters, pray for us.

Preschool News May was a busy month: we celebrated the mom’s; we talked about spring; we
talked about different animals. In honor of Mother’s day we had Muffins
with Moms. This is a great way for the children to spend a few calm minutes
with Mom before their day began. Everyone always looks forward to it.
There is so much going on in June. Many of the children will be leaving us
for Kindergarten. It’s bittersweet, but we are happy to see them move on to
bigger things. We will miss them terribly.
Our end of year program and Pre-K Graduation is Wednesday, June 12 at
6:30 PM. We would love to see you there!
In June we will celebrate Dads and grads. To honor our Dads we will have
Donuts with Dads.
Our summer session will begin Monday, June 17. Teachers have a lot of fun
things planned for the summer.
In July we will celebrate America’s Birthday. We also have a “picnic” the day
before July 4th. We plan on having a lot of summer fun and water play!

Military Outreach Ministries (MOM) JULY Food Drive
July is the month that LCPC Missions has agreed to assist
MOM with their monthly food drive. This message is to
alert you to begin thinking about supporting them with
food items. You may not be aware of the great impact of
your donations. The MOM organization runs eight
monthly food drives. Almost all of these families include
more than one child. MOM targets military personnel at
the level of E5 or below, many of whom actually qualify
for food stamps based on their salaries. MOM needs our
support in either donating items needed or by making
monetary gifts. You will find a white wooden box in the
narthex labeled MOM for your donations of food. If you
would prefer to make a monetary contribution, please
make your check out to LCPC and write MOM on the
memo line. Here is a list of items that are current urgent
needs: boxed meals, canned fruit juices, canned meat,
canned fruit and vegetables, cereal, macaroni and cheese,
peanut butter and jelly, soup, baby food, brown paper
grocery bags or any non-perishable food items.
Please keep our troops in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for putting your compassion into action!

Please drop off or email picutres to Michael McKnight as soon as possible. God is doing so much for us. Let’s celebrate and share with the entire church family the awesome year we are having.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN CONTRIBUTING TO THE COMMUNITY GARDEN’S BAKE SALE
Your contributions have helped us keep up with the maintenance to keep the garden going. Presently, we have
two people with plots, one of whom is Mark. Mark is a transplant from the Middle East who lives in El Cajon and
who has tremendous knowledge and passion for gardening. He comes to the garden by bus most every day
and plants all sorts of crops, some of which most of us have never tried before. He loves to share stories and
his produce. Mark has recently introduced me to fava beans, which I have grown fond of eating a few at a time
raw. Mark is one of the reasons why we need to keep this garden going.
However, after much discussion on how best to proceed with the garden, we have come to the conclusion that
our garden is too large for the number of gardeners we currently have. Therefore, it does not look refreshing,
inviting, and encouraging, which discourages new gardeners from getting a plot. In the next few months, we will
be taking steps to rototill and cover a large portion of the garden so that the weeds do not continue to grow out
of control. We will then set up a few plots making it much easier to maintain and we can start advertising to get
new gardeners to join us.
Please watch the bulletin for announcements on when work will be done to shut down the sections of the
garden. We will need your help, so we can get this done right and move on to a new smaller, more maintainable
and sustainable garden.
HELPS CENTER NEWS The HELPS Center will be hosting their annual Back to School
Supply distribution on August 9th to be held at the Community Center at Lindo Lake. They have funding to buy backpacks, but additional backpacks are always appreciated. You can help with supplies to go into the packs: pads of paper, spiral notebooks, calculators, pens, pencils, erasers, and any other supply that a child would need for school will be put to good use. Supplies can be dropped off in the narthex/foyer in the HELPS Center boxes. For more information, contact Michael McKnight, Gary MacDonald, or Joy Wray. The HELPS Center recently received an ample supply of basic pantry needs through the US Postal Office’s Annual Food Drive. However, during the summer when the schools are not in session, the food rapidly dwindles. Starting in late June through July in the Sunday LCPC bulletin, we will ask for your assistance with food to meet the needs of our community. Our church helps staff the Center on the last Saturday of each month. We have a small clientelle on the last Saturday, but we feel it is important that there is at least one day a month that people who work Monday through Thursday mornings can get help if they are struggling that month. If you would like to be part of our Saturday team, please contact Michael McKnight.

M/S/C: Approved a change to the by-laws that the membership of Session be reduced from 12 Elders to 10, beginning in 2020. Note: This change to the by-laws will require approval by the congregation at the annual congregational meeting this fall. 8. M/S/C: Approved the Mission Study Committee to complete a Mission Study Report, which must be completed prior to establishing a Pastoral Nominating Committee: Committee Membership includes: Linda Sunkel, Chair, Elder Gerie Morrin, Elder Garry Smith, Elder Sheila King, Deacon Michael McKnight, Deacon Suzy Smith, Deacon Marilyn Gilbert, and Members-at Large Shirley Wilson and Joy Wray. 9. M/S/C: Approved the March 2019 financial report, with a “Year-to-Date” balance of -$4,871.29 as of March 31st. 10. A “Work Party” was held Saturday, April 6th, that included painting of the Sanctuary front doors, installation of drive-way lights (digging holes and pouring concrete), raking of leaves, removing of weeds from the Rose garden, and other upkeep efforts and repairs. Next scheduled “Work Party” scheduled for Saturday, June 8th. Sign-ups on May 19th, 26th, and June 2nd.
THE IRONMEN’S TRAP SHOOTING EVENT TO BE RESCHEDULED
Ironmen had a great event planned at the Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club in Alpine in May.
Unfortunately, thunderstorms were moving in for the event day, and the thought of our group standing
out in a thunderstorm holding a metal rifle like a lightning rod was a bad idea.
We will reschedue our trap shooting for sometime in July, so please watch the bulletin for more
information. You may also contact the event coordinator Kevin King, or Michael McKnight to put you
on the list of people who want to be contacted for the rescheduled date. For $18.00, you will have two
rounds of 25 shots. Kevin assures us that he will provide adequate training for those who are not
familiar with firearm safety. Men with all skill levels are welcome to join us for a fun afternoon.
BEHIND SCHEDULE, BUT MOVING FORWARD When we had the Rummage Sale, we designated the remodeling of Rooms 1 and 2 as where the funds would be used. We also received other donations that covered the rest of the cost for the floors in these two rooms and the Pastor’s office. In addition, the Prayer Quilt Ministry offered to pay for the painting of Rooms 1 and 2, and another contribution is covering replacing the window treatments. We had planned to have the project done in May. Unfortunately, it was not the case. We have tentatively rescheduled the project to start on Saturday, June 8th. On June 8th, we plan on getting the small items out of the rooms, and the bookcases that are not attached to the walls will be emptied and moved to the center of the room. The walls will be treated and holes will be patched. Then on Monday and Tuesday, the walls (and possibly the ceilings) will be painted. On Wednesday through Friday, the new floors will be completed. The plan will be that the room should be available for normal use on Sunday, June 16th. There is a lot of coordination and work needed for this project to run smoothly. Please keep it in prayer and if you can help with some of the work (especially with the work party on June 8th – see the separate article on the work party), please let us know. Call the church office and we will get you in touch with the person/s organizing the work.
Mission News: From the Ringenberg’s – Serving Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) in Papua, Indonesia Roaring Flood Waters That Saturday night seemed like any other. It began raining around 5:30pm, like it had for many weeks during this extreme rainy season. C.J. came with me (Linda) to take a friend back up to school. As we approached the school road, the water got deeper and deeper, until I found myself whispering, “Jesus, help us!” And He did. Our wheels made the turn onto the school road out of the deep water. We made it home by going a back way, and then our family went to sleep, having no idea what other terrors would transpire that night. We awoke to the disturbing news that a severe flash flood and landslide had happened not long after we had gone to sleep. Houses had been swept away, and thousands of people displaced. Those who had lived in the valley behind the school climbed the school hill in search of safety, but many of them had just lost family members as well as their homes. Morning’s light also revealed the devastation in multiple areas of Sentani. Meanwhile the school staff, mission community and our MAF team rallied to provide food and clothing for those on the school grounds. That first day, weeping and mourning filled the gym as the people grieved. C.J. sat with three little boys and cried with them. That whole next week, school was cancelled, and everyone worked hard to care for the displaced. The local church, Indonesian community and the government all began to come alongside as well. In a very sad situation, it was beautiful to see how God drew many people together to help. The people were relocated to other areas after that week, but it will take months and maybe years to clean up and rebuild. Continue to pray for the people of Sentani, and for God to continue His work in their lives., Blessings, Dave, Linda, C.J. and Ryan Praises
We praise the Lord for his provision of a family car and a place to stay during furlough.
C.J. was awarded a missionary scholarship to attend Liberty University! He has decided to accept it! The scholarship covers his tuition, so he will just need to pay for room and board.
Prayer Requests
Please continue to pray for the flood victims in Sentani, for God’s comfort and provision
For the Papau program as there are many teammates also going on furlough this summer.
Pray for strength for those who will stay.
What is a Mission Study? Part of the process for calling a new pastor is to complete a Mission Study and provide a report on how God is leading our church now and in the future. It is led by a committee approved by the Session called the Mission Study Committee. The committee’s charter is to produce a Mission Study Report (MSR) that is presented to the Session for approval and to the Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry (COM) for review. This review is necessary before a congregation can elect a Pastoral Nominating Committee and begin the search for a new pastor. The Mission Study Committee includes the following membership from the Session, the Board of Deacons and the congregation-at-large.
Linda Sunkel, Clerk/Chair
Gerie Morrin, Elder
Garry Smith, Elder
Sheila King, Elder
Michael McKnight, Deacon/Director of Outreach
Marilyn Gilbert, Deacon
Suzy Smith, Deacon
Shirley Wilson, Member at Large
Joy Wray, Member at Large
But this does not mean that the committee will be doing all the work. There is much that you, the congregation, can do to support this effort. A Mission Study is very much a process owned by the congregation. For the Congregation and By the Congregation: How will you be involved:
Fact-finding about the congregation and the community.
Praying for the committee and their efforts
Discovering who we are as a congregation
Celebrating our gifts as a congregation
Learning our mission and vision for the future, and how we as a congregation are living out this vision.
