TheScenario:Adeviceuserishavingtroubleandhascalledtheirofficehelpdeskservicetoassistthem.Thenatureoftheissuesuggeststhattheeasiestsolutionmaybetohaveatechniciantakeovertheirsessionremotelyandperformafewtroubleshootingtasks.Inthisscenario,theuserdoesn’tknowwhattheirdevicenameisbutprovidestheWindowsLoginNamethattheyusedtologintoWindows.They’veconnectedtotheSales1server,whichisoneofmanyvirtualmachineshostedwithintheoffice.

Step1–OpenthevSpaceNC-Console:ThetechnicianlogsintotheSales1server(usingthevirtualmachine’sconsoleapplication,suchasVMWare’svSphereClient).Onceloggedintotheserver,thetechnicianlaunchestheNComputingvSpaceNC-Console.(Ifthishostwereona“baremetal”system,theycouldjustaseasilyhaveopenedanRDPsessionor,ifthehostwerelocatedintheirpartoftheoffice,theycouldsimplygotothehostitselfandlogintothehostusinganadminaccount.)

Step2–Determinewhichsessionisbeingusedbythedeviceinquestion:Underthe“L-series”sectionofthevSpaceconsole,thetechnicianwouldthenlocatethedevicebysearchingfortheWindowsLoginNameprovidedunderthe“UserName”columnoftheL-seriesdevicelist(outlinedin5.1L-seriesofthisguide).Clickatthetopofanycolumntoallowthemtosortbythiscolumntoquicklyfindtheuserinquestion.Inthisscenario,we’llassumeitwasSession2.
