Early Learning Programs Primary“I feel like I’m at home except we all have our school uniforms on”

The new framework for school aged care “My Time, Our Place” aims to help children relax at the end of their school day, enjoy each other’s company, pursue interests, try new activities and build life skills. Opportunities for homework are also available.

Recently, Kyzac enjoyed sharing his guitar skills with the group. Even mums can’t resist joining in sometimes! Every-one is made to feel comfortable and be confident at Noah’s Ark After School Care.

Parenting with PowerScripture of the week: A fool gives

full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.

~ Proverbs 29:11Resolving Anger Doesn’t Require Venting

When we talk about calming down and controlling an-ger, we don’t mean denying it. Some people may think that controlling anger means ignoring it, pushing it away, or sti-fling it. That is unproductive. We want to teach children a strategy to address their feelings and manage them in a healthy way. Anger should not be stifled and ignored, but rage does need to be controlled. Some people believe that the only way to get rid of anger is to drain it by vent-ing. Unfortunately, this venting doesn’t take into consider-ation the person upon whom that anger is vented. Venting anger is selfish and hurtful to others; it’s a demonstration of a lack of self-control. Often the expression of anger is harmful and hurtful to other people. Proverbs 29:11 says, “A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.” Venting anger may bring immedi-ate resolution on a feeling level. Exploding and venting an-ger often helps a person feel better. The problem is, allow-ing children to vent their anger doesn’t teach them how to manage their emotions in constructive ways. So the next time the child feels enraged, he is more likely to be explo-sive. The solution is to help children learn to control their emotions and funnel the energy into constructive solu-tions. The most important key in any anger management plan is to learn to stop and take a break from the situation to settle down and then re-enter in a more self-controlled way. Refuse to dialogue with children when they’re angry. Require an angry child to sit in the hall or on the bottom step and settle down before proceeding. If you dialogue with an angry child you may even get angry as well and then a battle will ensue. Don’t let anger control your family dynamics. If your child even begins to get angry, stop the process sooner.

Strategy for the week: Help your children this week to begin to manage their anger by getting them to calm down first and then talk about the problem behind the issue. Help children find creative solutions that get them to encourage the other party in the conflict. Seeing issues that have made them angry as problems to be solved will begin to help them control angry reactions.

SecondarySome Life Tips

GeneralYou can’t earn it!Quote from Power New Testament

There is nothing we can do to earn our way onto God’s team. It is merely a “free gift”. Our actions and lifestyle may be impres-sive in comparison to some. If we compare ourselves to Hitler or a church-going drug dealer we look pretty good. But when we try to make it on God’s team by the standard of a righteous life we ‘fall short’. The good news is, it is a free gift. You were chosen for the team because God loves you. He values you. He even likes you and wants you to spend time with Him. But you do not make the team because of your skill as a player. “All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory.” Count on it! Romans 3:23

I came across these and thought some of them were quite good. Perhaps you have a teenager who may enjoy or benefit from reading them.

Lessons For Life1. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully. 2. Memorise your favourite poem. 3. Don’t believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want. 4. When you say, “I love you”, mean it. 5. When you say, “I’m sorry”, look the person in the eye. 6. Be engaged at least six months before you get married. 7. Never laugh at anyone’s dreams for the future. 8. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it’s the only way to live life completely. 9. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling. 10. Don’t judge people by their relatives. 11. Talk slow but think quick. 12. When someone asks you a question you don’t want to answer, smile and ask, “Why do you want to know?”. 13. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk. 14. Call your mum. 15. Say “bless you” when you hear someone sneeze. 16. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson. 17. Remember the three R’s: Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions. 18. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship. 19. When you realise you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it. 20. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice. 21. Marry a man you love to talk to. As you get older, his conversational skills will be as important as any other. 22. Spend some time alone. 23. Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values. 24. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. 25. Read more books and watch less TV. 26. Live a good, honourable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll get to enjoy it a second time. 27. Trust in God but lock your car. 28. A loving atmosphere in your home is so important. Do all you can to create a tranquil harmonious home. 29. In disagreements with loved ones, deal with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past. 30. Read between the lines. 31. Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality. 32. Be gentle with the earth. 33. Pray. There’s immeasurable power in it. 34. Never interrupt when you are being flattered. 35. Mind your own business. 36. Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.

37. If you make a lot of money, put it to use helping others while you are living. That is wealth’s greatest satisfaction. 38. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes better than getting it. 39. Remember that the best relationship is one where your love for each other is greater than your need for each other. 40. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it. 41. Remember that your character is your destiny.

Cyber Safety CornerPlease note below that there is a King’s digital site with really

good resources on dealing with the issues of the cyber world.Kingscc.itPlease take a look and learn some great tips.

Lost Property: MissionsParents please note that a great amount of uniform items and

resources are being left around the school (i.e. footy boots, jump-ers and hats).

We have noticed that a lot of the same students are coming in to claim lost items. We are now trialling a project to educate our students to value their possessions, by charging them $1 to claim back any lost items.

The money collected will go to help our missions work in Aus-tralia and overseas.

We hope this trial will encourage the children to think more about securing their possessions and the need to be responsible for them.

Chapel ConcertWe are pleased to announce that the well-known Christian

singer/songwriter SEAN W SMITH will be performing at a com-bined chapel (Years 1 to 7 only) on the 28th February at 2pm. After the performance, CDs will be available for purchase (for par-ents and teachers only). Parents are also invited to join us at the back of the auditorium as we celebrate singing HiSTunes for the Lord! See you there!

P & F AGMThe Parents and Friends Association meets at the Barista

Lounge on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 2.00pm.The annual general meeting for the P&F will be held on March

20. We are calling for nominations for positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer. These are important roles in our com-munity and if you feel you can contribute by taking one of these positions, we encourage you to nominate your interest by email-ing [email protected] by March 13, or come along to the February meeting.

Sport News

News from the King’s Locker Room Across the SchoolNew addition to the team!!I am very happy to announce the appointment of James Clark to oversee our cross country and athletics program here at King’s. As

you will see below our students have a wonderful opportunity to work with one of the best coaches around. James will be leading all our training sessions throughout the year and will be writing training programs to really extend all our students.

Swimming TrainingSwimming continues every Tuesday and Thursday at Somerset pool from 7am - 8am. Our swimming program is lead by Mr Foster

(former AIS Swimmer) who is doing a great job of developing swimmers of all abilities.

Runners Club 2012Calling all runners!!!King’s is in the process of preparing a training squad for students wanting the extra edge at our school cross country carnival which

will be held on the 29th March. There are going to be a few slight changes this year, one being that we are going to be combining our primary and high school runners in a bid to raise the bar! Led by James, groups will be broken into ability groups not age groups. No matter what the age we will cater for everyone’s needs to get the most out of our students. Training sessions will be every Tuesday and Thursday meeting at the volleyball courts and training from 7am – 8am.

I would like to encourage all parents to take this opportunity that we are providing for King’s students across the school to attend free sessions to improve both fitness and technique. With the amazing opportunity to work with such qualified coaches as James and Mr Foster why wouldn’t you want to send your students along to these training sessions?!

Parents are also welcome to come along and assist at running club or simply come and have a run yourself. Let either Mr Stephens or Mr Grady know if you would like to get involved.

Jeffries, Megan Bogatie, Bunyarat Ward, Tenyka Chapman, Brooklyn Steele, Zane Jeffries, Jasmyne Coventry, Elijah Winnington, Candice Richards, Sophia Muller, Jonathon Robertson and Jordan Sergis. These students did us very proud and swam in many events on a very hot and tiring day.

Congratulations to Megan Bogatie (8 events), Jasmyne Coventry (7 events), Kye Jefferies (3 events), Candice Richards (1 event), Jonathon Robertson (4 events), Jordan Sergis (1 event), Elijah Winnington (7 events). They will now swim on Monday 27th and Wednesday 29th February at TSS along with the high school students.

Primary APS SportStudents will continue selection trials for their nominated sport on Thursdays during sport time. Winter sports include: Girls and Boys – hockey, football (soccer), tennis, volleyball/newcombeballGirls only – netballBoys only – rugby (walla, mini A mini B, midi)

All students have the opportunity to trial in their first preference. If numbers are too large, some students will then trial in a team of their second or third choice of sports. Our aim is to fill all teams and keep everyone happy and participating in sport.

Hi I’m James. My passion in life is coaching kids of all ages and abilities in cross country and athletics. I first started coaching professionally 10 years ago and in that time have developed numerous state and national level athletes. I’m very passionate about helping others to improve their ability and realise their true potential. My goal is to develop the King’s cross country and athletics teams into an APS powerhouse. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you here at King’s.

first ever state title.
