KU was 2-5 in those games, defeating Southern Mississippi and Iowa State.
NEW COACHES -- A new era in Kansas football began in December of 2009 with the hiring of Turner Gill as the head coach. Gill turned a dormat program at Buffalo into a conference champion in three years. He posted a 20-30 record in four years there (2006-09). Gill is familiar with the Big 12 Conference as a former quarterback (1980-83) and long-time assistant coach at Nebraska (1992-2004). Short bios on the new coaching staff are elsewhere in this notes package.

RETURNEES IN ALL CAPS
NEW STARTER AT QUARTERBACK IN 2010 -- Graduated record-setting quarterback Todd Reesing started 38 consecutive games for Kansas from 2007-09. The last player other than Reesing to start at quarterback for KU was Kerry Meier, who started the 2006 finale as a freshman. The only player on this year’s roster to have played quarterback in a game for KU is sophomore Kale Pick, who was four of five passing in seven limited appearances in 2009. Pick will be among a list of players competing for the starting spot along with redshirt Jordan Webb and transfer Quinn Mecham. Other quarterbacks on the roster include redshirts Christian Matthews and Jacob Morse.
OFFENSIVE LINE RETURNS INTACT -- Kansas returns all five of its regular starters on the offensive line as well as a sixth player who started two games. Four of the linemen started all 12 games a year ago, but only two stayed at the same position all season long. OC Jeremiah Hatch and LT Tanner Hawkinson manned those positions for all 12 games, while Brad Thorson started the first eight at LG before moving to RT. Sal Capra started the first eight at RG before manning the LG position the last four games. Meanwhile, Jeff Spikes started the first eight games at RT before he and Trevor Marrongelli both started two of the final four games at RG.
2009 FRESHMEN CLASS -- Last year Kansas freshmen saw plenty of action and were major contributors. In all, 11 freshmen lettered, including five on offense and six on defense. Two regular starters on offense were freshmen, while three regular starters on defense were freshmen. OT Tanner Hawkinson earned Freshman First-Team All-America honors from at least three publications and was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention pick. LB Huldon Tharp was a Phil Steele Freshman All-America First-Team selection, while S Lubbock Smith earned CollegeFootballNews.com Freshman All-America Honorable Mention honors.
RETURNEE NOTABLE -- Here are a few notes on the returnees:• Five of the eight players who started all 12 games in 2009 return.• Returning players with at least 10 career starts include DB Chris Harris (29), OL Jeremiah Hatch (24), OL Jeff Spikes (23), WR Johnathan Wilson (22), DE Jake Laptad (18), WR/CB Daymond Patterson (13), DT Richard Johnson (13), OT Tanner Hawkinson (12), OL Brad Thorson (12), and OL Sal Capra (12).• QB Kale Pick, who saw limited action in 2009 and had just 14 rushes, led the Jayhawks with runs of 20 or more yards with three. He had the team’s longest two runs of the year at 55 and 32 yards.• RB Toben Opurum became the first freshman to lead the team in rushing in a season since 2002. Opurum had 554 yards.
WHAT WAS LOST -- Here are a few notes on the players who were lost from the 2009 team: • KU lost six players who had started at least 30 games in their careers including S Darrell Stuckey (42), QB Todd Reesing (38), WR Kerry Meier (38), WR Dezmon Briscoe (33), DT Caleb Blakeseley (32), and S Justin Thornton (30).• QB Todd Reesing set nearly every Kansas passing record and finished as the Big 12 Conference’s fifth-leading passer all-time with 11,194 yards.• WR Kerry Meier finished his career ranked eighth the Big 12 Conference’s all-time receptions list with 226.• WR Dezmon Briscoe finished his career ranked fourth on the Big 12 Conference’s all-time receiving yardage list with 3,235 yards.• S Darrell Stuckey was second in the Big 12 Conference with 10-plus tackle games with five last year. He finished his KU career with 295 tackles to rank second among all-time KU defensive backs.
DID YOU KNOW? -- Kansas started the 2009 season 5-0 and was ranked as high as No. 15 in the coaches poll and No. 16 in the Associated Press poll. The Jayhawks were ranked in the first eight polls of the 2009 season before dropping out. Three of KU’s losses were by one score and all three came on the road.
Kansas will enter its first season under the direction of new head coach Turner Gill, who was hired in December of 2009. Gill spent the previous four seasons as the head coach at Buffalo, where he turned around a program which had produced more than two wins in just one of the seven seasons prior to his arrival into a Mid-American Conference Champion in his third year. He inherits a program which returns 39 lettermen, including 15 starters. While the Jayhawks lost several record-setting skill position players, a host of talented, experienced players will be back in Lawrence for the first year of the Gill era.
The Jayhawks will prepare for a season which includes seven games against opponents who played in bowl games last year. Among those opponents are top-25 teams in Georgia Tech (13th AP/13th Coaches), Nebraska (14th/14th) and Oklahoma State (25th Coaches). KU will host seven games at Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium, a venue which was home to four sellouts in six games a year ago.

A solid core of starters return for the Kansas offense, including all five starters on the offensive line, a pair of wide receivers and the tight end. Gone are record setters at quarterback (Todd Reesing), wide receiver (Dezmon Briscoe and Kerry Meier) and running back (Jake Sharp). While KU lost some very talented skill position players, there are several players who appear ready to step into the lineup. Among them is running back Toben Opurum, who despite coming off the bench, became the first freshman to lead the Jayhawks in rushing in a season since 2002. Senior Johnathan Wilson has recorded more than 1,000 receiving yards in his Kansas career, while Bradley McDougald caught 33 passes in 2009 and Daymond Patterson returns to wide receiver, where he started his KU career in 2008 before spending the past one and one-half seasons at cornerback.
All six players who started games on the offensive line during 2009 return this season. Tanner Hawkinson at left tackle and Jeremiah Hatch at center, are the only two players who stayed at the same position all year. They both started all 12 games a year ago. Brad Thorson started the first eight games at left guard and the last four at right tackle. Sal Capra was the starting right guard for the first eight games before moving to left guard for the final four contests. Jeff Spikes started eight games at right tackle and two at right guard, while Trevor Marrongelli started two games at right guard, including the season finale against Missouri. Hawkinson was a Freshman All-American by a number of publications as well as earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors. The group is experienced with 86 combined career starts.
Tim Biere started all five games KU used a tight end on its first offensive play last season. He has been the regular tight end for the last two seasons. In 2009 Biere caught 14 passes for 183 yards. Bradley Dedeaux is an experienced player who has provided great depth in his career and is the only other tight end on the roster with a career catch (three). Ian Wolfe was moved to tight end from offensive line ahead of this spring.
2010 Newcomers – Ricki Herod (HS), Brian Maura (HS), Keeston Terry (HS), Andrew Turrzilli (HS)

The Jayhawks lost the two most productive wide receivers in school history in Dezmon Briscoe, who declared for the NFL draft after his junior campaign, and Kerry Meier. In 2009, Briscoe caught 84 passes for 1,337 yards and nine touchdowns, while Meier pulled in 102 balls for 985 yards and eight scores. Johnathan Wilson had been the third option in his career and pulled in 35 receptions for 449 yards in 2009. Bradley McDougald started six games as the fourth wide receiver and caught 33 passes for 318 yards last year. Tertavian Ingram saw action a year ago and had two catches. Daymond Patterson has been moved back to his original position after spending 2009 as a cornerback. D.J. Beshears, a starter for three games at cornerback last year, has been moved to this position. In half a season on offense as a freshman in 2008 Beshears had 14 catches for 154 yards. A pair of redshirt freshmen could make an impact in Erick McGriff and Chris Omigie.
2010 Newcomers – Brandon Bourbon (HS), James Sims (HS)

In 2009 Toben Opurum led the team in rushing as a freshman, despite backing up Jake Sharp, who graduated last season. Opurum ran for 554 yards and nine touchdowns, while Sharp added 429 yards and four scores. Sharp finished his KU career with 2,239 yards and 23 touchdowns. Rell Lewis saw limited time running for 72 yards on 13 carries. Angus Quigley, a running back at KU until playing linebacker last season, returns to his original position after gaining a medical hardship. Quigley ran for 309 yards in 2008. Deshaun Sands redshirted in 2009.
For the first time since the 2007 season, someone other than Todd Reesing will man the quarterback spot. Reesing left KU as a three-year starter and the holder of nearly every school passing and total offense record. In 2009, Reesing threw for 3,616 yards and 22 touchdowns, while ranking fourth in the NCAA in total offense and sixth in passing yards. Reesing threw for 11,194 yards in his career. Kale Pick was four of five passing for 22 yards, while adding 167 rushing yards on 14 carries as a backup in 2009. Quinn Mecham is a junior college transfer who threw for 3,091 yards and 40 touchdowns at Snow Junior College in 2009. He is already on campus and will participate in spring practice. A trio of quarterbacks redshirted as freshmen in 2009 including Christian Matthews, Jacob Morse and Jordan Webb.
Lettermen Returning - 22Lettermen Lost - 7Starters Returning - 7Starters Lost – 5 A mix of experience and youth returns on the defensive side of the ball for Kansas. In all, 22 lettermen return, including seven starters. Among the returnees are All-Big 12 Honorable Mention players in defensive end Jake Laptad (coaches) and linebacker Drew Dudley (Associated Press). Linebacker Huldon Tharp and safety Lubbock Smith earned Freshman All-America honors in 2009. Chris Harris has been a regular in the secondary for the past three seasons. In all, five of the top eight tackle leaders from 2009 return. Dudley’s 88 tackles were second on the team, while Harris registered 84 and led the team with nine passes broken up. Tharp and Laptad added 59 and 49 tackles respectively, while Laptad led in tackles for loss with 12 and sacks with 6.5.
2010 Fall Newcomers – Keba Agostinho (HS), JaQwaylin Arps (HS), Jeremiah Edwards (HS), Pat Lewandowski (HS)

While Kansas lost a trio of dependable players in ends Maxwell Onyegbule and Jeff Wheeler and tackle Caleb Blakesley, the cupboard is not bare. Two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection Jake Laptad leads a host of returnees up front. Laptad led the team with 6.5 sacks and 12 total tackles for loss in 2009. Quinton Woods, who saw limited time with four tackles, is the only other end with experience. Inside, John Williams started the final seven games of 2009 at tackle after moving from the offensive line. He replaced Richard Johnson in the starting lineup, but Johnson returns this season as well. They are joined by veterans Jamal Greene, Patrick Dorsey and Darius Parish in the interior.
2010 Fall Newcomers – Jake Farley (HS), Ed Fink (HS)
* - Indicates 2009 starter
Last season Kansas used two linebackers in its 4-2-5 alignment and two of the main three players in last year’s rotation return. Drew Dudley was second on the team with 88 tackles last year, while Huldon Tharp made 59 stops as a true freshman en route to earning some Freshman All-America honors. Justin Springer has been a key reserve and last year had 25 tackles. Steven Johnson has experience and made nine tackles last season.
2010 Fall Newcomers – Dexter McDonald (HS), Ray Mitchell (HS)
* - Indicates 2009 starter
The 2009 secondary was a team effort as 10 different players started games during the season. KU lost two long-time regular safeties in Darrell Stuckey, who led the team with 93 tackles, and Justin Thornton, who registered 80 tackles in 2009. Chris Harris leads the returnees. Harris has played safety and cornerback in his career and last year was third on the team with 84 tackles, while leading the team with nine passes broken up, while starting 11 games at right cornerback. The left cornerback position was manned by Daymond Patterson for the first six games, D.J. Beshears the next three and Anthony Davis the final three. Patterson has returned to wide receiver, while Beshears makes the move to wide receiver as well. Davis, who also started at right cornerback in the 2009 opener, had 20 tackles. Other corners who saw action last year include Isiah Barfield and Greg Brown. Lubbock Smith started six straight games at free safety last season before missing the final game due to injury. He recorded 36 tackles in his five full games as a starter. Phillip Strozier started three games at safety in 2009 and has nine starts in his career. Ryan Murphy saw extended playing time in 2009 and led the team with two interceptions.

Kansas returns both its placekicker and punter from the last two years, while losing its four-year long snapper. Jacob Branstetter has been the starting kicker for the past two seasons and has converted 22 of 31 career field goal attempts, including 13 of 19 in 2009. Branstetter drilled a 57-yard field goal vs. Oklahoma last season. Alonso Rojas showed a strong leg with a 44-yard average on punts from his side of the 50-yard line, while also dropping 16 of his 52 punts inside the 20-yard line a year ago. Justin Carnes appears to be the top candidate to replace four-year snapper Kayl Anderson, who handled both short and long snapping for four seasons.

Turner GillHead Coach(North Texas, 1990)First Year at Kansas0-0 at Kansas (First season)20-30 Overall (Fifth season)
A new era of Kansas football began when Turner Gill was named the Jayhawks’ head football coach on Dec. 13, 2009. After turning a one-win Buffalo program into a conference championship team in three short years, Gill, a former Nebraska standout player and assistant coach, returns to his Big 12 Conference roots to take over the Jayhawk program.
Gill was a highly successful quarterback at Nebraska and then spent most of his coaching career with the Huskers helping the program to 13 bowl games in his 13 seasons (1992-2004) on the coaching staff.
After a year in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers (2005), Gill became a head coach, taking over a Buffalo program which had produced more than two wins in just one of the previous seven seasons.
Gill posted a modest 2-10 record in his inaugural season in 2006. In 2007, Gill’s team produced a 5-7 mark, the most victories for Buffalo since an 8-3 ledger in 1996 while competing at the I-AA level.
Gill earned Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2007 as the Bulls posted a 5-3 conference mark, including a 4-2 record in the league’s East Division to claim a share of the regular season title in his second year. UB also posted its first winning record at home (3-2) since moving up from Division I-AA.
In 2007, Buffalo landed eight players on the all-conference team. The number of honorees that season surpassed UB’s combined seven selections in the school’s first eight years of conference play.
During the season the Bulls had eight MAC Player of the Week winners and two players landed on national semifinal watch lists, including punter Ben Woods and defensive end Trevor Scott. Center Jamey Richard was invited to play in the Hula Bowl and to participate in the NFL Combine.
In his third season in 2008, Gill guided the Bulls to their first MAC Championship and the school’s first postseason bowl game. Buffalo went 8-6, defeating Ball State 42-24 in the MAC Championship game before falling 38-20 to Connecticut in the International Bowl.
The 2008 campaign was filled with record-breaking accomplishments. With Gill calling the plays, Buffalo produced a school-record 424 points, while his quarterback, running back and wide receiver all set school season yardage records.
Gill earned MAC Coach of the Year accolades by The Sporting News and was named a finalist for the Bear Bryant National Coach of the Year Award.
In 2009, Buffalo posted a 5-7 record, which included five losses to bowl teams. Three of those losses to bowl teams were by one score or less, while five of the losses on the season were by seven points or less.
The Bulls produced a balanced offense ranking 38th nationally in passing and 46th in rushing. Their 405 total yards per game ranked 39th in the country. UB’s defense ranked in the top half of the NCAA at 42nd in total defense and 50th in scoring defense.
In his four-year tenure at Buffalo, Gill had 17 players earn All-MAC honors.
Gill began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at North Texas in 1989. After earning his degree at North Texas he returned to Nebraska as a graduate assistant in 1990. Gill then moved to SMU in 1991 as a graduate assistant before being promoted to a full-time position.
He then returned to Nebraska coaching the quarterbacks from 1992-2002. He was named assistant head coach in 2003 and coached the Husker wide receivers in 2004.
During his time at Nebraska, Gill helped develop 1995 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner Tommie Frazier, 2001 Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch and Scott Frost, who led NU to a national title.
Under his guidance, Husker quarterbacks Crouch, Frazier and Jamaal Lord finished their careers ranked first through third on the school’s career total offense chart.
Nebraska won three national championships – 1994, 1995 and 1997 - during Gill’s tenure. In 2000 and 2001 Gill was rated as one of the top 10 recruiters in the nation by ESPN.com. In 2002, Gill was a finalist for the Frank Broyles Award, given annually to the nation’s top assistant coach.
Gill moved to the NFL for one season, working with the Green Bay Packers as the director of player development and as an offensive assistant in 2005. Gill was then named as head coach at Buffalo in 2006.
As a quarterback at Nebraska from 1980-83, Gill was a three-time All-Big Eight Conference honoree, a second-team All-American and a Heisman Trophy finalist. He finished his career with a 28-2 record as a starter, including a 20-0 mark in conference play, while leading the Huskers to three straight Orange Bowls.
He was named the quarterback of the Big Eight Conference All-Decade Team (1980-89). He was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame and the Orange Bowl Hall of Fame.
Gill became the team’s starter five games into his sophomore season and led NU to six straight wins before missing the final two games with an injury that year. As a junior, he passed for 1,182 yards and rushed for 487 more in a season capped by an Orange Bowl victory. As a senior in 1983, he led the Huskers to an average of 546.7 yards and 52.0 points per game.
Gill also played baseball for one season at Nebraska and earned All-Big Eight honors as a shortstop. After his collegiate career he played two seasons (1984-85) in the Canadian Football League with Montreal and three years (1986-88) as a baseball player in the minor league systems of Cleveland and Detroit.
Gill finished his bachelor’s degree in behavior analysis while at North Texas in 1990.
Gill was an all-state quarterback at Forth Worth (Texas) Arlington Heights High School before going to Nebraska. Gill and his wife Gayle have two daughters – Jordan, a sophomore at Kansas and Margaux.

GAME #1 Sept. 5, 2009
No. 25 KANSAS 49, NO. COLORADO 3LAWRENCE, Kan. – To get the Jayhawks’ 2009 season off on the right foot, senior quarterback Todd Reesing took matters into his own hands – and feet. Be-fore a record crowd of 52,530, Reesing rushed for KU’s first two scores and threw a pair of second quarter touchdown passes to give the 25th-ranked Jayhawks a 49-3 triumph over visiting Northern Colorado in the season-opener at Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium Saturday evening. The senior quarterback accounted for 287 of KU’s 543 yards in the game, carrying the ball 13 times for 79 yards and throwing for 208. On the Jayhawks’ first play from scrimmage, Reesing hit fellow senior Kerry Meier on a slant pattern for 30 yards, which set the tone for the KU offense. Reesing capped the drive with a one-yard scamper around the left end in which he juked his way through a group of would-be tacklers to give KU a 7-0 lead. Reesing capped another long drive with a 13-yard run early in the second quarter and then threw touchdown passes to Jake Sharp on a shovel pass and Tertavian Ingram to give Kansas a 28-0 lead heading into the halftime break. Reesing led Kansas on one more scoring drive, a seven-play, 64-yard march, before giving way to backup quarterback Kale Pick early in the fourth quarter. Kansas ran for 328 yards, compared to just 74 on the ground for Northern Colorado. As impres-sive as the Jayhawk offense was, the defense might have been better. Kansas held the Bears to 246 yards of total offense, including 95 in the first half. Northern Colorado penetrated the Jayhawk 20-yard line just twice in the contest, with both drives ending with field goal tries.
No. 24 KANSAS 34, UTEP 7EL PASO, Texas – Senior DE Maxwell Onyegbule and the Jayhawk defense set the tone early as Kansas rolled past UTEP 34-7. In the first half alone, Onyeg-bule had two sacks and four total tackles for loss to lead a defense that finished the half with five sacks, an i nterception and a pair of quarterback hurries. UTEP was forced to punt on six of its seven possessions of the period and mustered just three first downs. With the defense and special teams setting the tone, it gave the offense the breathing room it needed to get in rhythm. As it turned out, it was just what the offense needed after putting just three points on the board for the first quarter and a half. Kansas opened the scoring with a 21-yard field goal from junior PK Jacob Branstetter. After forcing UTEP to punt on its opening possession, the Jayhawks drove the ball 75 yards on their opening drive with the key play coming on a trick play where senior WR Kerry Meier hit streaking junior WR Dezmon Bris-coe for 56 yards through the air. Kansas punted on its next two possessions then came to life, scoring on its next three. Kansas racked up 250 yards of total offense in the first half compared to just 49 for UTEP. Reesing went 17-of-26 through the air for 134 yards and a TD. UTEP was able to get on the board at the 12:39 mark of the fourth quarter on a 75-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Vittatoe to Donavon Kemp. The TD wiped away KU’s attempt at a shutout, but the defense still had to walk away happy. For the game, the defense held UTEP to just 208 yards and seven first downs. Seven players recorded tackles for losses led by Onyegbule with five. Add to that line six quarterback hurries, three passes broken up and an interception, and it was a good night in El Paso. Reesing finished 25-of-41 for 260 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Kansas racked up 576 total yards and outdid the Miners 23-7 on first downs.
No. 22 KANSAS 44, DUKE 16LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas QB Todd Reesing threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns and also collected 51 yards on the ground to lead Kansas to a 44-16 win over Duke. Reesing completed 28-of-41 passes against the Blue Devils, in-cluding touchdowns to three different receivers. His 338 yards in the air marked his seventh-straight game with 200 or more passing yards and his 14th career 300-yard passing game. Duke opened the game with a two-play 87-yard scor-ing drive capped by a 21-yard touchdown run by QB Thaddeus Lewis. Kansas answered right back with a with a 14-yard touchdown reception by WR Dezmon Briscoe just two and half minutes later to knot the score at 7-7 midway through the first quarter. The two teams traded punts on the next few possessions before Re-esing connected with RB Jake Sharp for a six-yard TD with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. Reesing collected his third TD pass of the first half as he hit WR Kerry Meier in the end zone for a six-yard score with just over a minute to play before the break. The Jayhawk defense got the scoring started in the second half of play as DE Maxwell Onyegbule picked off a Lewis pass on the opening possession of the third quarter. Onyebule returned the interception for a 48-yard touchdown pushing the Kansas lead to 27-7. Briscoe finished the game with 117 yards receiving, his sixth-straight 100-yard receiving game. S Darrell Stuckey led the Jayhawk defense with a season-high 11 tackles. LB Huldon Tharp recorded a career-high 10 tackles, while LB Drew Dudley finished with a career-best eight tackles. KU finished with five sacks on the afternoon.
No. 20 KANSAS 35, SOUTHERN MISS. 28LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior wide receiver Kerry Meier hauled in 10 passes for a career-high 141 yards and two touchdowns and senior quarterback Todd Re-esing passed former Texas quarterback Vince Young for seventh on the all-time Big 12 total yards list as No. 20 Kansas defeated Southern Mississippi 35-28 at Memorial Stadium. KU’s victory ended the nation’s second longest winning streak at eight games. Reesing completed 30-of-41 passes against the Golden Eagles, including touchdowns to two different receivers. His 331 yards in the air marked his 15th career 300-yard passing game. The Jayhawks got off to an ideal start when Reesing connected with Meier for a 62-yard touchdown on the fourth play of the contest. After three-consecutive passes to begin the game’s opening drive, Reesing found Meier open in the middle of field and the senior wide receiver did the rest, running away from his defender for his second touchdown of the season. After Southern Miss tied the game at 28, Kansas received ideal field position after Darrell Stuckey posted a 50-yard kick return to place the ball at the Southern Miss 40-yard line just before the end of the third quarter. The Jayhawks took advantage of the kick return, and Reesing found Meier uncovered for a 12-yard touchdown, his second of the game, to make the score 35-28. The KU defense then held USM to 27 yards in the fourth quarter as USM threw an interception, punted twice and had a drive end on downs to end the game.
No. 16 KANSAS 41, IOWA STATE 36LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior WR Kerry Meier set a school record with 16 receptions for a career-high 142 yards and two touchdowns, while senior QB Todd Reesing tied his school record with 37 completions for a career-high 442 yards and four touchdowns as No. 16 Kansas outlasted Iowa State 41-36. Rees-ing’s main two targets for the afternoon were Meier, with his record-setting 16 receptions and junior WR Dezmon Briscoe, who had 12 catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Meier and Briscoe ended the day as KU’s career receptions leaders with Meier first at 167 and Briscoe at 165. For Reesing, his 442 yards were second in school history. Despite the offensive fire power displayed by the Jayhawks, the team needed a fourth-down stop at its own 31-yard line to solidify the win. Trailing by five with 2:36 remaining in the game, ISU regained possession on its own 34-yard line and marched to the KU 31 before the Jayhawks’ defense held fast to produce a turnover on downs. KU CB Chris Harris made a huge tackle of Iowa State receiver Jake Williams on second-and-10 and then broke up the third-down pass, resulting in a fourth-and-nine attempt for the Cyclones. On fourth down, pressure forced ISU quarterback Austen Arnuad’s pass to sail incomplete. KU scored what proved to be the winning touchdown when Reesing hit Meier in the end zone with a six-yard touchdown pass, giving Kansas a 41-30 with 8:42 remaining on the game clock. Reesing went 5-for-6 for 61 yards on the drive, while Meier caught three passes and tallied his fifth touchdown of the season.
COLORADO 34, No. 17 KANSAS 30BOULDER, Colo. – Kansas erased a 21-point deficit, but couldn’t manage to come up with a victory as the Jayhawks fell at Colorado 34-30. Kansas trailed 24-3 late in the second quarter before fighting back to take a 30-27 lead with 13:02 remaining. Colorado responded with the go-ahead touchdown at the 8:36 mark to lead 34-30. Kansas then had two potential go-ahead touchdown drives stopped at the Colorado six and 19-yard lines to end the game. QB Todd Reesing threw for 401 yards and two touchdowns, while WR Dezmon Briscoe pulled in eight balls for 154 yards and one score and WR Kerry Meier had 11 receptions for 103 yards and another touchdown. Two rare Kansas turnovers gave Colorado the ball at the three and one-yard lines and the Buffaloes took advantage with touchdowns. On the day Kansas registered 431 passing yards, but had minus-eight rushing yards due to five Colorado sacks for 50 yards. KU played six players on defense for the first time on the season. LB Drew Dudley recorded 17 tackles, while S Darrell Stuckey added 12 tackles, an interception and a pass broken up.

No. 25 OKLAHOMA 35, No. 24 KANSAS 13LAWRENCE, Kan. – Defensively Kansas held Oklahoma to nearly 100 yards less than its season average and offensively put up 80 yards more than the Soon-ers had been allowing, but three turnovers led to 14 first-half points for OU as the No. 25 Sooners posted a 35-13 win at No. 24 Kansas. NEBRASKA 31, KANSAS 17LAWRENCE, Kan. – After a low scoring three quarters, a fourth-quarter scor-ing flurry led to a 31-17 Nebraska victory against Kansas on Senior Day. A 30-yard run by NU’s Roy Helu, Jr., on third and 10 from the Nebraska 37-yard line kept the chains and the clock moving as Nebraska held the ball for the final 5:15 of the game and carved the 14-point Cornhusker win. Helu carried the ball seven times for 64 yards as Nebraska slowly, but surely ran the clock out and Helu tacked on the final touchdown on a 14-yard scamper. GAME #11 Nov. 21, 2009No. 3 TEXAS 51, KANSAS 20AUSTIN, Texas – Despite 245 all-purpose yards from junior Dezmon Bris-coe, the Kansas football team could not keep up with the high-powered Texas offense as the No. 3 Longhorns defeated the Jayhawks 51-20. A sellout crowd of 101,357 - the largest to ever attend a Kansas game - witnessed Kansas hav-ing early chances but coming up short on the points. The Jayhawks drove inside the Longhorns’ 10-yard line twice in the second quarter yet only came away with two Jacob Branstetter field goals. The Jayhawks had four drives in the first half advance into UT territory. On the flip side, Texas scored 27 points in the first two periods. For the game, Texas rolled up 532 yards total offense, while Kansas had 303 yards. Playing in his hometown of Austin, Texas, Reesing ended the game 25 for 39 for 256 yards.
